I hopethis is it, and that Maddie will be found safe and sound. If it was a kidnapping for ransom, she may still be alive and well. Or if the couple just wanted a little girl to raise.

However, I think it's probably just another sideshow.

I copied this direct from the El Pais website and translated it on Babel Fish. I also found a photograph but I am not sure.

Still checking.....will be right back

:furious: I thought it would come to nothing. Poor little Maddie. My shoes are safe but I would have poured ketchup on them and taken a bite if it meant I was wrong and Maddie was going to be found.

CarpeDiem and everyone:

No crows or shoes for dinner I am afraid. This is really funny, I was on the phone with MoonGoddess when this story broke over in the UK. We were listening to the TV and I was frantically searching the internet for more details and went straight to the El Pais website (the newspaper that broke the story) and found that last bit I posted. While more details are still coming, I am wondering about the searching that they are doing, I really feel like this is an extortion attempt and these people don't know anything about where Maddie is (unfortunately). It blew my mind (and MoonGoddess' as well) the reference to Spain right after the interviews with Toscano. We were quite excited, to say the least.

I am with you guys though, I will be the first to fall on my face and beg forgiveness if it turns out that the McCanns were not directly involved with her dissapearance. BUT....and this is a big BUT....

The reason we are looking at the McCanns with suspicion is due to their initial negligence and lack of communication. It is easier for me to think that my theory is sound than for me to think that that little baby girl is being held by the unspeakable evil of a network of pedophiles. I know you know what I mean. Until I am proven wrong I stand by my theory. My gut instinct is rarely wrong, in fact, I can't think of a time when it steered me wrong. But I am heavily invested in this case and there is a first time for everything.

MoonGoddess wanted me to tell you that she felt so bad because she did not even realize that Gordon Brown was now the new Prime Minister. It took me telling her the news

I am still checking on this picture, language barrier, but I will post more soon.

....still reeling from my shame at not keeping up with current events in this country:blushing:

MADRID, Spain — Spanish police said Thursday they had arrested an Italian man with possible links to Madeleine McCann, the 4-year-old British girl who vanished nearly two months ago during a vacation in Portugal. Spanish media reported that a woman was also detained in the case.
Police said the man was detained on an international arrest warrant issued by French authorities. The arrest took place in the southern province of Cadiz, a police spokeswoman said, adding that police were investigating whether he could have been involved in the case.
The spokeswoman, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with police rules, did not identify the man or give details about how he was located.

Well I think I'm safe in saying we can all put something more palatable than 'leather shoes' on the menu tonight, we have a saying.... 'eating humble pie' and I was almost gagging at the thought that I would have to eat more than most!!

Olegario de Sousa from the Portuguese police told Sky News his officers had joined the Spanish officers on the raid to arrest the man because of the extortion allegation, but had nothing to link the people being held to Madeleine's kidnap.

my defence at not knowing who our current PM was - I'm avoiding all news coverage at the moment due to the reporting of the Spice Girl re-union, the site of Posh's fake cleavage and fake 'pout' has the same effect on me as the smiling Kate McCann........:banghead:
