Maybe the question about the mysterious stranger who was carrying a child the night Madeleine disappeared outside the apartments has been answered.

According to the article, GM left the group at 9:05 to check the children. Except for a partially-opened bedroom door, everything was fine. On the way back to the Tapas restaurant he ran into a friend of his. Jeremy Wilkins, who knows GM because they played tennis together, was out walking with his 8-month-old. The two stopped to speak to each other.

At 9:30 Jane Tanner, one of the McCanns' dinner companions, left the apartments late on her way to the restaurant. She saw a dark-haired man carrying a sleeping child in his arms. But Jeremy Wilkins didn't see anyone else except GM.

I think Jeremy Wilkins is the man Jane Tanner saw.

Ah! excellent point! She saw a glimpse of a man with a kid.

The door to the hotel room was opened, or the door to the kids bedroom in the hotel room was opened?

I don't know. You would have to wrap a child in a full sized bed comforter and likely end up smothering it for anyone I know to see a size even appraoching the size of a 3 yrs old and this was somehow recognized as being a child that was carried.

Edited to strike until I can check source to sure if facts correct:And was not the child heard to speak? So I wonder how an 8 mo old is speaking and asking to go home etc.

I read the child was sleeping. But not directly in an article. Do you have a cite for the child speaking and asking to go home?

I struck the lines about speech because I could not remember where I read that info and I wish to check for a source before using it in a post. I left the words in but with strikes to acknowledge that there was possibly an error on my part but did not just delete the words as if trying to hide the possible error. Perhaps I misremembered that part about speech. If I remember where I read it I will post a link. Until then it is probably best to assume I made an error.

For me, almost anything that the McCann friends have to say about the night Madeleine disappeared would be suspicious after the release of the Pact of Silence information.

First we had a couple of weeks pass between May 3 and the "sighting" of the man with the child. Then someone in the party said they saw Robert Murat around the apartments that night. I think the people in the McCann party are covering the parents' butts by trying to throw suspicion on other people. But that is my opinion, and I'll gladly eat crow pie if I turn out to be wrong.

Anyways, I've got a lot of Independence Day celebration stuff to prepare for, so I better run.

I remember reading somewhere that the little girl sighted at the petrol station was asking for her mommy. But not sure if the little girl sighted was Madelaine. That is the only time I recall anything about anyone who might have seen or thought it was Madelaine speaking.
Im not much help as there really hasnt been any new developments.

I also remember that the little girl at the petrol station was speaking in an English accent and asking to go and see her "mummy". The witness specifically said that her English way of speaking coupled with her resemblance to Madeleine was what piqued the witness' interest in the child.

That's probably where I read about her speaking.

However the alleged beach sightings were accounted for by a 4 yrs old in one case and then there was the sighting where ". . .carrying a small blonde girl wearing "distinguishable" pyjamas and wrapped in a blanket. . ." which does not sound like the description of an 8 mo old child to me. (I respect the fine person who posited the mix up between an 8 mo old and the 3 yrs old missing girl but I just happen to disagree on this one point and have tried to show why but I am willing to be convinced.)

It's kind of sad because we wanted to know what the people who were traveling with Madeleine's parents had to say about that night. We finally hear from them, and it's just as we suspected- they have been keeping silent for the sake of the McCanns. But now that we've heard all the contradictions, it just leaves more questions to be answered.

If the McCanns have nothing to hide, then their friends should tell their stories, by not saying anything leads you to believe there is something going on and all is not good in the McCann camp.
