At this point if she is still alive which I doubt it really doesn't matter as long as they get her back. Unfortunately nothing can be undone the McCain's will have to live forever with the pain that they have caused Maddie. Dead or Alive whether they killed her or were negligent if they truly don't know where she is I'm sure they just want her back abused or not. I think everyone would have a huge problem if they said we want her back but only if she hasn't been abused. Everyone here knows the reality of her being found alive and if she's found alive the reality of her not having been abused during her captivity is well let's just say have a better chance leaping into outer-space in a single bound. I find nothing sinister about that quote it sounds quite normal to me. Just a mom who wants her child back no matter what. I don't know what the McCain's involvement in Maddie's disappearance was but I think the dad knows more than the mom. I wonder if dear old dad who can't spell his child's name correctly, or hire someone to spell it correctly for him, may have arranged the whole thing due to some finical problems and set up the "fund" as a means of payment for Maddie. Just my thought sometime the people who appear the best off are really the worst. I have also wondered if this could be an extreme case of munchausen by proxy. Just a thought

This is actually a conspiracy theory going around the internet right now. I don't have the link, but many people believe that the McCanns might even be in collusion with Robert Murat and when publicity for Madeleine quiets down (and funds stop pouring into her fund), suddenly she'll reappear. They would be hailed as some kind of heroes and invited to speak everywhere.

petra, I hope the McCanns do show some generosity. It would be very interesting to see if they truly intend to put their money where their mouths are, in terms of wanting to globally support missing/abducted children.

Gerry wrote a note in his blog from yesterday--quoted on the bottom of article.

I see the funds for McCann limited have now topped 901,000 GBP or 1.8 million USD. I only hope that the Mccanns will contribute to a ransom for little Margaret Hill, if one is needed (as found in previous articles).

If the McCann's have registered 'the fund' then I would think it would be an LLC or something like that in which case I would think since this is donated money what is done with it should be available for public view. At least in part. So far I have not really seen that with the exception of some plastic yellow bracelets, yellow ballons, posters, etc. I am not including 'the tour' as I think that was a donated jet and I feel sure their accomidations were donated so probably no cash was exchanged here. And that was just a few days after Madeleine disapeared and I am not sure the fund was set up yet. I suppose all these 'concerts' and T shirts are coming out of it too.... :twocents:

This seems to be a serious sticking point to the McCanns' detractors, as it appears as if they are free to do whatever they want (including paying off their home in Leicester) with the money and nobody to oversee that it's being spent for what it was intended for.

From early reports, the friends of the McCanns also have young children. So if Madeleine's parents are guilty of neglect for leaving her alone in their apartment, so is everyone else in their party.

Somewhere further back in the post someone showed where it had been registered or whatever you call it. That person thought they had registered Madeleine's name but it was in acutality the whole charade of the fund and what goes along with that. I think that's good business sense though the whole thing smells funny to me.:twocents:

Unfortunately not, in fact as you can see from what I posted on Mikes blog they have our Foreign Officer falling at their feet - I just cant understand it at all, I really cant. The case is not being given any coverage over here, or at least not that I've noticed, it has died down a lot.

I thought the sol article commenting on all the discrepencies in their account of the night of May 3rd might have encouraged some movement in the case, but all they did was go on Portuguese cable TV, and say how they wanted 'a better relationship' with the media out there......any intelligent person that is following it closely (the only way to do that is on the internet) knows that the stench coming from their direction almost knocks you out......it is a complete and utter whitewash and it sickens me to my stomach.

Sorry to sound so negative....its nearly 2am so I must go and rest my weary head.

When I read the quote from the member of the group about their silence pact I was totally confused. I read it and reread it. Here in the United States a pact is something I think of when a group of kids all agree to never tell on each other that they stole bubble gum from the candy store.
It is not a term I would ever think adults would use when discussing apporpriate adult behavior. Prehaps in England the word pact is used differently? I can not understand anyreason other then the obvious why a parent of a missing child would ask anyone to make a pact of silence who might have information regarding the childs dissapearance. Nor do I unerstand why any reasonable adult would agree to such a pact. Had I been a member of this group and been asked to agree to such a pact the answer would be absolulty no. I would be communicating anything to anyone I viewed as necessary in order to help find this child. The pact maybe be no more then stupidity but irregarldess it comes across with a huge stink.

Most of the recent abductions in Nigeria are ransom kidnappings that have something to do with the oil industry. Margaret is the youngest victim, but I think all of those who were have been released once the ransom is paid.

But I agree he should've just kept his mouth shut. He IS downplaying her abduction as if it was trivial.

This secret pact is kiddy stuff, when will any of these parents learn that there is a little girl missing, instead of focusing on how this affects them and how they are viewed by others.
Some of these parents must know more than what has been told, but wont say so they dont get into trouble, dont they care about Madelaine, it really sickens me as to how selfish these people are.

The resort offered childcare in the creche up until 11:30 p.m. almost every night. If the families wanted to stay out later, a nanny from the creche would babysit in the apartment until 1:30 a.m. These were the same nannies who took care of the McCann children during the day, so they certainly weren't strangers to Madeleine and her siblings.

Since this is a financially well-off family, I don't understand why hiring a sitter was such a big deal. It all sounds like a lot of excuses to cover up their negligent parenting. Gerry and Kate McCann call themselves naive, but a better word would be stupid.

Latest Update - Gerry's Blog/Diary

Day 64 - 06/07/2007

The major development today was the arrest of a 39 year old Dutch citizen in Eindhoven for attempted fraud. The man had sent six e-mails saying he knew who had Madleine and where she was. He was demanding €2million for this information. After being arrested he has admitted he did not have any information and was motivated by boredom and trying to extort the money.

This arrest, after cooperation between the Portuguese, British and Dutch police forces, sends a clear message that this sort of crime is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. It also encourages Kate and I that all information about Madeleine coming through to the police in any European country will be taken seriously and rigorously evaluated
