I've been doing a bit of thinking re where this case can be headed and am still quite fascinated re this Arabic phone call that was intercepted by GCHQ. Has there ever been any more detail on it given since
these articles in 2007?
It could be nothing at all and just coincidence but I've always had the impression that they could hold the key to this case. I think a normal person would have discussed the case to their friends and family over the phone and maybe there would have been cases of sharing theories and speculation but the references to the German man have always seemed quite a specific link to make, especially on phone calls that seem deliberately hard to trace.
I don't know if this person has been named but it would be very interesting to see if this is someone who has any links to the number LE are searching for and what the ITV journo has come up with.
One scenario that crosses my mind and fits a lot of dots is actually of a failed trafficking event. CB has contact with a trafficking ring who arrange for a payment to abduct a child and transfer her to Morocco (possibly handing her over in Tarifa or CB taking that leg of the journey itself). For whatever reason though, they'd poorly calculated the heat the abduction would generate and didn't feel confident in completing the journey without any attention, they eventually abandon the plan a couple of weeks later, something new is suggested to get the girl to Holland/Germany where some sicko has a bit of cash that cuts their losses.
CB takes her from his place near Granada (which seems to be so deserted that no one really knows about) north using the coastal route and needs to stop a few times. He's aware that stopping is a massive risk but he's been driving for 6-7 hours, having set off in the middle of the night, he turns off at Alcossebre and takes a break, allowing MM out. Eventually though, they make it to their final destination the next day. CB and others take part in whatever happens and this forms part of German LE evidence (who are not encouraging any specific searches in Portugal).
