"There's no meaningfully ethical way of taking 200 men, hooking them up to detectors, showing them pictures of adults and children and seeing how many respond most to children."No, this research was based on a study by Dr Michael Seto 2008. I do remember it being challenged at the time.
So many variables were taken into account and it has since been updated and revised down to 1%.
I found an interesting article regarding the update and well worth a read.
How many men are paedophiles?
men were asked whether they had ever had sexual thoughts or fantasies about children or engaged in sexual activity with children.
....
it is the variables that stop any of these studies being meaningful. as the text says, there are pedophiles in portugal - i would leave it at that. trying to count them... certainly trying to count the number per sq km!... laughable. certainly not based on asking a person about 'thoughts or fantasies'.
i could ask 200 people whether they had ever had thoughts of strangling their cat, doesn't mean all of the people that say 'yes' are pet murderers.
just imo, of course.
