Sorry, the correct translation was here:
Scotland Yard is looking for Madeleine’s secret in Athens - Keep Talking Greece
"HE was released form prison a few weeks ago and he allegedly used a cell phone registered to a woman, national of a Balkan country, and resident of Agios Panteleimonas district of Athens."

So he called SY from Athens using the cell phone of a Bulgarian woman? But he still had to be brought to justice in Corfu.

This part here is very cryptic indeed:

[...] he allegedly used a cell phone registered to a woman, national of a Balkan country, and resident of
Agios Panteleimonas district of Athens.
IMO:

Police report is dated July 18, 2017 and was done after they met in Athens. They say he called OG in May 2017 ([...] the German national had contacted the Grange team last May the aim to help investigation).

So, he called OG from prison likely with an illegal cell phone and probably to know first how feasible was it to have an exchange deal (otherwise, to make a formal call he would have used a prison phone with consent).

Later they did arrangements to meet in Athens with OG officers and Greek police and HB was perhaps released soon after as agreed when OG officers considered his statement trustworthy, police report was issued and a judge approved it.

Yes he called from prison. It's in page 47 of this thread.
And he was released 5 years early very soon after that phone call.

Hello new member here have been lurking for a while. Just wanted to clarify a few things from the Greek press articles and the two documents from Greek police. The fact that HB got out of jail in 2 years is perfectly normal with a jail sentence of 7 years. The norm is that one is set free when they have done 2/5 of their jail sentence. And if someone has disabilities, works in jail or for other reasons, the duration can be significantly lowered. (Each day spent in prison can count as 2 days).

The documents mention that the greek police was contacted by the metropolitan police to help them locate a german citizen who had phoned the grange team offering info on mm. He had initially given a different name, 1971 as the dob and the mobile number (who was later found to have belonged to a bulgarian woman) as his contact number. When he first contacted the grange team, he had already been released from jail. There does not appear to be anything dodgy here

Welcome, C.greek

Cool information. Thanks for clearing up many things.

Anyway, 2/5 of 7 years and 5 months it's 36 months or 3 years. Early release or he had lots of bonuses (his statement to OG might count).

So, he called from jail, correct? Like he didn't give his true ID at the time, he also omitted he was in jail when he first called OG. That's within context. That must be why OG asked Greek police to locate him and the mobile (BTW using mobiles illegally in prison isn't considered good behavior and so he may have needed extra bonuses).

He was already released when he called the grange team. He even mentioned that the reason he couldn't travel abroad was because of his early release from jail- i don't know how it works in other countries but in Greece if you are released earlier you have to attend every month the closest police station.

If he was working in jail, which many inmates do, his sentence could be cut by half.

Can we establish whether HB's first call to OG was made before or after CB was arrested in Portugal & extradited to Germany?

Lead prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters has now told The Sun on Sunday: “No new announcements will be made until the end of 2020.

“There is nothing more we can say for the time being and I cannot go into specific details.

We have received many tips from Germany and Britain and around the world and we are working through them. That is all I can say.”

Prosecutors are talking to another new witness — who was in jail near Hanover with Christian B while he was on remand for rape in 2018.

He is the fourth witness to come forward.

Maddie prosecutors say there'll be no major progress before next year in probe

You may be right, but being out of jail by early May 2017 must be a very short release.

Greek press from August 8, 2017 tells HB had been released in the Summer 2017, vague enough but I wouldn't move backwards as early as May.

IMO it's hard to believe there's no connection between his (very) early release and his cooperation with OG, that's what I mean.

CB was arrested in early June 2017 and extradited on June 22, 2017. So first call was before that (May 3, 2017 according to Greek documents).

May 3rd 2017 he was released from jail.

The documents mention May 3, 2017. Is that date he was released and not the date he called OG? Can we date his first call?

By the way I am just translating the internal police files attached to the article you quote above from ta nea. In there it is also mentioned that he told operation grange that he served 2 years and 7 months in prison.

It's the day he was released. In these files it is said that he phoned Operation grange in May, it's not more specific. Also he was put in jail on the 9th of April 2015 and there is also a possibility that he was imprisoned when caught originally, so that would count in his total sentence

I thought the informant said CB confessed/admitted his part on the 10 year anniversary,. which would be the day of HB release?? They could not have been together at a bar in Germany! I also read the same confession/admission was told at a Spanish Kite Festival at 1 year missing,- June 2008, with the recipient informing Portuguese LE but he was fobbed off! Be it in English, Portuguese or German- these false statements are global X

I must admit, that i'm pretty confused at the moment.

Confused in the way of the circumstances, that have been made public by using the media. HCW and FF are handling the case by using foreign media, just kind of exclusive. Seems unusual, german media does not even have got that progressive appearence.

Please delete my post if it may break the rules of WS, but could the CB-MM-Case maybe the hanger for a much bigger case now, in correlation to missing kids over europe?

That all looks odd to me! I used to work in prosecution - "business" and the way it is handled seems unusual to me.

Is HCW really just only investigating the MM-case?

That's interesting, if correct. I wonder if he made a phone call to CB immediately after his release which prompted CB's outburst in the Bar on the night of the anniversary documentary?

Such a call would alarm him, misty, not make him euphoric. And it's quite unlikely CB was in Germany at the time (posted before).

I think all the info being passed down through the media getting misconstrued and translation issues is causing issues for the German LE. The MM case is still so ‘relevant’ in the U.K. and it’s been sensationalised, media clutching straws and making any headlines. If CB is not charged now it will look so bad on the German LE.
