It would probably have picked up the man who passed the Smiths on the road.

It would have confirmed the timeline of when the family returned to the hotel.

It was a monumental slip up as far as the police were concerned that it was not checked sooner than it was. Given how few CCTV sites there were in Luz.
Perhaps they would have dealt with that one before it completed its erasure loop with more urgency, had they known about the Smith sighting.
The delay in reporting it of nearly a fortnight put the investigators and thus the investigation on the back foot.

Weren’t The Smiths staying in their own apartment? I think also the credit card receipts from the restaurant/bar (Paddy’s or Dolphin, I can’t remember) confirmed the time of the sighting to within a few minutes.

RH almost certainly drowned. JC was a local, sad circumstances but I don’t think we can conclude anything about that.

These cases were thrown into the limelight by the prosecutors to build the public case against CB.

They are unfortunate but random acts.

JC disappeared without trace August 2004 and
MM disappeared without trace May 2007 from neighbouring villages in close proximity.

Not random. More serial. Two little girls vanished without trace in an area which was a hotbed for sexual predation.
Children were assaulted in their beds and at least one aggravated rape was committed.

In 2014 an appeal was made and the numbers of assaults were constantly updated. One has no idea what the final total was except it was shockingly substantial.

Hi! I've been following this case for many years and wanted to get involved. Recently saw a video from The Sun with many police photos in it. I've seen some of these before but thought it could be worth compiling the photos them and posting them.

Summary of items found in CBs abandoned factory:
-Buried beneath a dead dog was a plastic bag with wallet containing 6 USB sticks and 2 memory cards.
-75 sets of toddler's swim suits found in CBs abandoned factory.
-Preschooler bikes and toys
-3 guns with ammunition, untraceable black market weapons.
-A mask (matches the outfit later described by Hazel Behan)
-A briefcase with pictures of young children and a list of phone number

Also pictured are photos of CB at his hangout spot Arades Dam. Looks to me like he has blood on his hands in some photos.

No. My prior question was tourist children who had been abducted (or attempted abduction) and/or murdered.

Kids disappear. Small numbers but it happens. That it happened in the Algarve - I think RH was in 1999 and JC in 2004 reflects this. It would arguable be more surprising if there were no missing children in such a timeframe.

Put it this way, when police are investigating an abduction, they would only look at similar missing persons cases to eliminate them. They would look at other abduction and attempted abduction cases very carefully.

Here, the constant discussion is of random cases or just random stuff without anything connect them to CB or MM. Without any connection probability indicates that it’s just random stuff.

Okay, on closer inspection there is no blood on his face.

The red on his hand is some sort of a bandage or bandana.

Given he is wearing white and there are no bloodstains, I think we can rule out him just have murdered someone.

Re the 3 pistols. They are not black market guns.
The 2 small dark ones are 5.5/6mm starting pistols dating from late 19th/early 20th century.
The 3rd silvery one is a small calibre rimfire pistol of similar date, probably Belgian and almost certainly .32, an obsolete calibre for which ammunition is no longer available.
All 3 would be freely available from any antique gun shop, without requiring any licence.

Any aspiring 'gangsta' would want a 9mm semi-automatic - now that would be a black market gun.

There were people sentencing for JC murder, the sentence was verified later and upheld. It's not even an unsolved case.

Would you do more damage hitting someone with those guns versus shooting someone with them. Would they even fire a bullet.

“ excuse me .. could I trouble you to share with me what type of gun that is please .. and how lethal ? .. Then I can make an informed decision as to what degree of scaredness I should be feeling “ ?

A gun is a gun if it used to just terrify people. I am not sure where you live and how common guns are there but in most European countries carrying a gun creates fear to those around you. And I think this was the aim.

I’d put money on him being from the UK.

Those guns are like novelties. I think they would be quite small. Two of the three are single-shot and they look like you would need a separate flask of gun powder to fire them.

Maybe but these things are museum pieces, not sawed-off shotguns.

There’s a better picture of something similar below. They were used to start races so they were never meant to be intimidating. A replica gun would b far more threatening.

Besides all this, what relevance does it have for the MM case? These pictures were released for publicity.

Yes - old guns circulate more & less traceable. Less likely he’d have had movie-esc high calibre pistols.

Yes - no concrete evidence/prosecutions in those cases, will be interesting to see if anything materialises in the future or whether CB & MM case unlocks anything else in the future.

Precisely. If you were wanting to intimidate with a pistol, you'd go to the trouble of obtaining a realistic imitation firearm or a blank firer, if not a real one.
Potentially much more frightening than something that wouldn't scare a mouse.

In Estrela da Luz I believe, which was also covered by CCTV. After dropping some of the family off at the airport MS returned there to continue for a short stay.
One finds it intriguing that they didn't make the connection with their encounter of the night before until PS worked it out a fortnight later.

However although there is plenty of room for discussion regarding this episode it has all been done before through the prism of the time - since the advent of CB into the public domain there has never been any suggestion or comment made that he could have been the man seen.
Although I'll bet it has been checked out.

It would scare me to see someone carrying a pistol. I would definitely not check what type it was, just the sight of a pistol carried by someone freaks many people out.
