Madeleine McCann: German Prisoner Identified as Suspect, #41

That is probably correct.
However, according to the Portuguese press there seems to be no despondency.

But
Luis Neves,
the National Director of the Policia Judiciaria police force insisted the searches had “not been in vain”.

He can't say "Dear public, we spent yet another boatload of money on a wild goose chase", can he? That's one of these round sentences that say nothing of value, because their only purpose is to make things look nice.

I don't think German police work this way. They would have needed permission from higher up to conduct the search with good reasons - and to justify the budget. Their suspicions seem to be very strong. This has nothing to do with politics as MM is not a German subject. I am not saying that they don't make mistakes- of course they do. But overall they need more than just mere suspicions or desperation to justify such actions.

But it increases the possibility these pieces of rust were lying there for ages and are unconnected to the case.

We can’t know for sure.
Given there's no mention in the extensive PJ files it's a stretch to say a gun had some relevance to the MM case which this thread is about.

The same could be said for the OG searches in 2014 along with suspects given Arguido status, look how that turned out.

Nor is there any mention of CB in those files; not even in the redacted sex offenders file which were not included on the CD translated by 'volunteers' and posted on the internet.

It has to be remembered that these files to which you refer are not the official files.
MM's parents had to pay a professional independent translating service to access those.

In effect none of us have seen the official files unless we have a copy of the original CD.

The suspects were eliminated from the inquiry freeing up investigators to change direction.

There is no significance to the fact that they were questioned as arguidos.
The status can be requested by anyone about to undergo police questioning either as suspect or witness. Paramount amongst the rights it gives is the entitlement to be accompanied by a lawyer.

There is only one person currently constituted arguido by the Portuguese authorities and that is CB who has refused to speak with police. And as a result has not been eliminated from the inquiry into MM's case.

This is one of the key issues, I have with CB as a suspect. Every detective that reviews cold cases knows the answers are in the case file. Irrespective of whether we have the full file or not, I don’t think CB is in it. What are the chances that someone previously unknown to the original investigation would fall into the frame 10 years later.

Well CB was definitely on the police radar in the early days when they were still checking out paedophiles living in the area.
Snip
Portuguese detectives showed up to question prime suspect CB soon after MM's disappearance, but he wasn't in when they arrived.
A proper investigation would have progressed to the phone dump where CB's phone traffic could have been evaluated in 2007 rather than when it was in 2013.

This was a case which had the potential to have been resolved in 2007 if the appropriate investigative procedure had been followed then. Sadly that didn't happen in a classic case of trying to fit the theory to the evidence.
My opinion

If he’s denying owning guns the bullet holes in his abandoned car at the box factory may paint a different picture.
Didn’t he write to the ‘researcher’ that he had no guns?

If so, an interesting claim given the guns found at his home.

Be interesting to know how many times he’s been caught in a lie.

Then there no significance of CB being an Arguido using that argument.

The original files in Portuguese are there to be translated if any one so wishes.

The Portuguese in 2007 & Germans in 2013 made crucial mistakes. 1 - Not investigating 2 - alerting CB they wanted to speak to him regarding MM.

What have permissions to do with the way German officials talked about the search? The search was done by Bunderskriminalamt, German police force, paid from the taxes of German citizens. And these citizens do not exactly want to hear their hard earned money were spent on a fruitless search, so of course the statement made by BKA after search was full of rpund, empty words designed to make it look better than it was. That's my point.
