Ridiculous!

My son had a non nutritional suck..... not to mention I couldn't produce much pumping all the time and I had purchased a 300 breast pump.

God forbid a law, lol..... especially for situations like myself.

There is nothing more annoying than the 'mommy wars' - and those who think they can tell everyone else what they are doing wrong or right. I don't miss all that at babycenter.

Hopefully I don't dig myself into a hole here, but...

A woman can have her baby killed and scraped off her womb because its "her body," but there are people out there who would want to make breastfeeding a law?

I dunno lol

But I do think breastfeeding is a beautiful thing, and should be encouraged if the woman hasn't already made a decision on the matter, or is weighing the issue.

I'd like to know..... is Giselle using disposable diapers? or cloth? Because you know about the time someone says it should be law that everyone must breast feed, is about the time someone should be saying it is time to outlaw disposable diapers. ;) - and you all know how far that would go. ;)

:)

Keep in mind, Gisele also said that childbirth didn't hurt a bit.......not at all.

I would beg to differ..........

Really? Huhn. What's she got down there that I don't? I missed the boat on that one.

I would love to know how she defines "pain".

In my family the women of my mother's and grandmother's generations all swore that childbirth was relatively painless. Some sort of Midwest stoicism, I suspect.

After my sister had her first, she called me in a rage and said, "What the hell were they talking about! Why would they tell us such a thing?"

We just had our 1st baby on July 16th... Emmi was 3 weeks early and although she was perfecly healthy (THANK GOD!!!) she just didn't have a good latch... We tried everything... Even the lactation nurse couldn't get it to work...

So, we tried pumping and I just wasn't making enough to keep up with our little girl... So, even though I really wanted to, I just couldn't breastfeed our little one.

I wonder what Missy Supermodel would like the punishment to be for those of us who can't breasteed...?

There's an entire generation of us baby boomers and few of us were breastfed. Our mothers also smoked and drank during pregnancy. As a rule we turned out healthy enough.

That's not to say that breastfeeding isn't preferable when possible; and of course I don't think pregnant women should smoke and drink.

But women who can't breastfeed or choose not to do so should not be treated as pariahs. Jeeze, Louise!

The law? Are you kidding me. For someone like me who has an irregular heart beat, passing my meds on to my child would have given him a slow heart rate and could have killed him. Yet, the idiot nurses kept coming in (despite the NO BREASTFEEDING sign on the chart) to ask me "how it was going". Looking on in horror when I said I couldn't breastfeed - no sympathy whatsoever. To top it off, coming back and saying "oh, were taking your son to get circumcised". The hell you are! That only happened twice -- even though I signed a form saying no circumcision (we're europeans and do not believe in it).

Yet there was my son, happy as a clam in his bassinette with his formula and intact bits.

That was my wonderful experience.

LOL - when I heard my mom smoked and had a high-ball every night when pregnant with me, all I could say is WTH? My son sat on my sciatic nerve for 6 months and all I could do was take tylenol :(

Every time I see this thread my mind reads it as *male* breastfeeding. lol

Maybe now that I have read it, my mind will interpret it the right way.

On topic, I couldn't breastfeed, either.

My son is a frantic eater. Wasn't willing to wait for the let down. Would scream until he puked. I would pump so he wouldn't have to wait for the let down and he still puked in anticipation.

I pumped for 3 months.

Gisele can pound salt. I would NEVER put my son through the agony he went through trying to feed, whether it was "good for him" or not.

A bottle worked just fine.

When will celebrities get the hint they are not experts in EVERYTHING?

LOL, I hope the baby was screened for drugs! Painless huh?

Nice try, Gisele. While I agree breast is best, there are times when a woman is unable or unwilling to breast feed. I had PPP with my second child and had to stop breast feeding because of the medications I was on. I can't tell you how much having to stop added to my feelings of failure. I really enjoyed breast feeding. It's still a sad memory for me to recall.

We mothers deal with enough guilt and wondering if we're making the right decisions (even when the decisions are totally out of our hands). We don't need a law insisting breast feeding be mandatory. My child, my body. 'Nuff said.

Also, I don't think women who CHOOSE not to breastfeed should feel bad. Some women just aren't comfortable with it, or they want their husband to be more involved with feed times, or they work and don't want to pump...who knows. But it's a choice. I used to be a member of La Leche League and I loved it, but I really think that if a baby is relying on a bottle of formula for nutrition, there is no harm in that. Not in our industrialized society, anyway. In the 21st century, it seems like boob vs. bottle is such a non-issue. If this super-model woman wants a cause to promote, there are lots more that could use her attention.

I was relieved to read this; I'm one of those women who doesn't want to breastfeed. (of course, if it were up to me, the baby would just magically appear as well)

If men were required to breastfeed, that law would be repealed in a New York minute!

Remember how bathing caps were required in pools everywhere UNTIL men started wearing their hair long? Funny how pool filters suddenly learned to cope with a little hair...

(ETA I'm a dude, myself, so this isn't an anti-male rant. But I live in the world and see how things work.)

Absolutely! Congrats to Jennie! And, frankly, it's none of my business whether she breastfeeds or not.

THANK YOU!!!

I have been wondering; What, exactly, is it about having a baby that makes everyone think they have the right to tell you how to live your life?

Not just in terms of breastfeeding, but EVERYTHING... We had a few family members get all pissy when they heard we were going to cloth diaper, telling us how bad for the baby it would be (I fail to see that logic, but oh well...) or the fact that we have kitties, and how we need to get rid of them ASAP because somehow the fur will cause our baby to get ear infections (SERIOUSLY, where does this crap come from???)... I could go on-and-on...
