Does anyone know yet if MH370 had a similar flight path?

??? amsterdam to KL is completely different than KL to beijing...

Looks like malay has got some answering to do. jmo

In April, international aviation agencies such as the European Aviation Safety Agency and ICAO, a United Nations civil aviation agency, warned that airlines faced "serious risks" in the area and advised them to take alternate routes.

Malaysia choose to fly OVER and not go around. If they didn't know not to fly OVER Ukraine, they probably shouldn't be flying. jmo idk I would never step a foot on one of their planes.

in the link you quoted:

It is not unusual that a commercial airplane would be flying over an embattled country like Ukraine, said aviation consultant David Fuscus, president of Xenophon Strategies, because airlines often rely on being high enough to avoid most dangers.

"Would planes have been routed over Iraq and Iran during the Iraq/Iran war? The answer is no. But over Ukraine and Russia at this point? There was probably nothing that was done to avoid flying routes over the area," Fuscus said.

plus, the ICAO warning was about two different air traffic services providers, not b/c the area was unsafe to fly through due to the conflict:

ICAO issued a letter to its member states on April 2 advising of a potentially unsafe situation because of the presence of more than one air traffic services provider in the Simferopol area.

Both Russia and Ukraine are apparently offering services in the region and there was concern the situation could lead to safety issues because it could mean two sets of instructions being sent to an aircraft.

Oh no ... we're just waking up to this horrific news here in Australia. We have lost 27 people. :( Am hearing possibly shot down by Russian rebels. Ukraine has denied shooting plane down. America was warned not to fly over Ukraine.

Going back to read thread now ....

I would suggest anyone not wanting to be upset further avoid looking at some of the comments being made on Yahoo news stories of this tragedy by Russians or their sympathizers. The usual pro-Putin drivel about Ukraine being 'fascist', etc. It's a waste of time replying to these people but i couldn't help telling one of them that his countrymen who do this stuff disgrace the memory of their grandparents who fought real fascists and died.
If Russia was even remotely involved in this the consequences will be nearly unthinkable.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/mal...h17-1-canadian-aboard-official-says-1.2710406

"Jos Nijhuis, CEO of Schiphol Airport, confirmed the 15-member crew were Malaysian nationals and said the plane also carried:
■154 Dutch passengers.
■27 from Australia.
■23 from Malaysia.
■11 Indonesians.
■Six from the United Kingdom.
■Four from Germany.
■Four from Belgium.
■Three from the Philippines.

No names were given, and the official said the nationalities of some passengers were still being determined.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is "aware of media reports indicating that one Canadian citizen was aboard the flight."

Two friends of my youngest daughter should have been on this plane. They cancelled to go to a party this weekend. She has had a fair few friends die in distressing circumstances, I am so glad these young men gave in to their impulse to party.
RIP to all who died in this act of violence beyond comprehension

"What the 'bleep' was it doing flying over Ukraine" and "It means they were dropping spies" nice attempts to try and justify what had just happened.

A sickening mobile phone video posted online shows a pall of black smoke billowing over the crash site as three rebels provide an excited commentary.
The extraordinary footage – apparently filmed by the shooters themselves – charts the terrible final moments of the doomed airliner.

There are unconfirmed reports that a number of the passengers on the plane were high-profile AIDS researchers and scientists on the way to Melbourne, Australia for the 2014 international conference.

Video doesn't show any rebels. Seem to be the villagers that live down there.

I firmly believe that if there was any Russian involvement then Russia needs to be brought to their knees. Let's see how eager Russians will be to support their bare-chested pinup boy when we impose stringent economic sanctions such as denial of access to credit card or banking services to their citizens?

A number of social media posts from pro-Russian insurgents - which have since been deleted - are being trumpeted by Ukrainian officials as evidence that it was rebels who shot down the plane.

AFP reports that the "defence minister" of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Igor Strelkov, posted on his VK social networking page: "We just downed an An-26 near (the town of) Torez."

"And here is a video confirming that a 'bird fell'," it read.

The website then provides a link identical to that published by Ukrainian media in reports about the Malaysia Airlines jet, said AFP.

Big trouble. If they think those wont have been captured and can't be rediscovered they are kidding themselves.

I agree, I do not want to see one bit of allied intervention, I say we cut them off as if they don't exist from the rest of the world.
