I agree, I do not want to see one bit of allied intervention, I say we cut them off as if they don't exist from the rest of the world.

I agree, although I worry that it cannot happen because too many countries are reliant upon Russian oil and Russian big spenders.

Australian prime minister Tony Abbott has the world should be “filled with revulsion.”

There were at least 23 Australians among the passengers on board.

Abbott said it was a “grim, grim time” for the families of those on board and “a grim day for the the world”, adding if it was confirmed the plane had been shot down “it becomes not an accident but a crime”.

Abbott raised the prospect that “Russian proxies, using Russian supplied equipment” could have been responsible.

When asked if Australia would rescind an invite to Russian president Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Brisbane scheduled for November, Abbott responded: “I don’t want to pre-empt what happens down the track”.

We need to put commercial interests below humanitarian concerns in this instance, as long as we are dependent on them for anything they have the power to continue.

Sydney Airport has put a chaplain in place for those flying on Malaysian Airlines today ... very sombre feel in the airport. Relatives gathering at airports around the world. Scenes similar to the loss of MH370.

Earlier articles were saying Malaysia Air is going to fly families out to Ukraine.

I think they are crazy.

Presser here in Australia by our foreign minister.... Australia seeking full independent international inquiry, seeking access to the site, wish to send consular staff and are seeking permission ... will provide full consular support. Urge separatists to return black box if they have taken it. We have passports, we have a manifest, contacting families. Taking this exceedingly seriously with utmost seriousness.

Tragedy it has come to this.

I finally had a chance to read through this discussion. I posted a couple of pages ago that I couldn't help wondering if today's airline disaster and that of MH370 could be related. I'm not thoroughly convinced, but I thought about some of the same possibilities that you've listed here. This is what I was thinking when I suggested that the two catastrophic events might somehow be related.
I've asked myself. How often does 1 person win a jackpot lottery twice in 6 months?

I also wonder if MH370 was a "test run", it passed, now to the next MAS 777. But why Malaysia? Hmm.

There are unconfirmed reports that a number of the passengers on the plane were high-profile AIDS researchers and scientists on the way to Melbourne, Australia for the 2014 international conference.

:(

Dutch politician and lobbyist Pim De Kuijer died in the crash. He was a lobbyist for the AIDS-fund and for Stop-AIDS-Now.
Martine de Schutter, Programme Manager Bridging the Gaps at Aids Fonds is also reported to have died in the crash.

What to say....

How do you know that Ukraine is not responsible? In 2001, Ukraine allegedly had military exercises and hit a plane flying from Russia to Israel.
Is there military still as strong as it was in 2001?
