Coroner Maimoonah Aid says inquest is for "justice for everyone", reiterates it isn't a prosecution but an inquisitorial process to determine "when & where, how and... what manner" Nora died. Also the inquest will determine if any person is "criminally concerned" in Nora's death.

Yusof: "I don’t know personally but the investigating team may have contacted them. But not technical help, we used our own technical resources."

Has the footage been shown in court? What kind of purple bag was she pulling?

If the question is whether Nora needed support to walk longer distances, then perhaps she was supported by the purple bag that she was pulling at the airport?
Are there any images of her at the airport?

A stranger approached London schoolgirl Nora Quoirin after her family arrived at Kuala Lumpur international airport, an inquest heard.

An inquest heard on Thursday, how her dad Sebastien had left Nora and her two younger siblings unaccompanied for less than five minutes.

He had gone to meet their mum, Meabh, who had flown in separately from Singapore after a business trip.

We investigated and the children told us the man whom they did not know said 'hello' and wanted to know where they were from.

He left after the children ignored him, as they were constantly trained not to entertain strangers," the female officer said.

Assistant Superintendent Chong Mee Chyi told how after Nora went missing a family friend had received anonymous WhatsApp messages, saying they had been followed from the airport to the resort and that Nora was still alive.

Other messages claimed Nora was still in the forest and scared and that shamans were trying to locate the missing teen.

"These were messages forwarded and some were even repeated. It was shared with other police investigators for them to look into,” the police officer told the hearing, which is due to finish on September 18th.

It is not completely clear from the reporting, but I think not. The transcript of evidence sounds as though it is just the police stating that they viewed the cctv and then widened the search area, based on this new information.

Photo - copied over from thread one, shows a turquoise suitcase in the upper bedroom - possibly the purple bag was similar ?

If you watch the you tube video- they have a screen up and did watch the video I think- but technology doesn’t allow the you tube viewer to watch the video. As I can’t translate and just guessed as they direct the camera towards the screen and it then went blank for less than a minute before returning to the court- that is my guess rather than knowledge. If anyway is fluent in the language it should be clear in the video whether they screened the CCTV or not.

In a subsequent query by Quoirin’s family lawyer, S. Sakthyvell, Mohd Nor Marzukee affirmed that he accepted Wan Faridah’s investigation findings on Quoirin’s walking ability without question and did not contact the family for clarification for the entirety of the search-and-rescue operation.

I find that strange - surely he should have gone back to speak to the parents immediately, as soon as he had viewed the airport cctv, in order to discuss Nora's walking ability.

I assume that they can trace who sent the WhatsApp messages?

If the purple bag is similar or is the same as the turquoise suitcase, then it's a trolley suitcase that can be used for extra support while walking.
Too bad we don't get to see the footage.

He expanded the search area based on the video, which was the right decision. It seems that the parents were already displeased with the work of LE. Perhaps it was thought best not to challenge the parent’s portrayal of Nora’s walking ability and further erode the relationship. While there might have been an explanation for Nora walking well in the video, it didn’t hurt to expand the search area without consulting the parents and they should appreciate the diligence of LE IMO.

The room a teenage girl was staying in when she disappeared from a Malaysian jungle resort had a broken window handle, an inquest heard.

A police officer told the inquest Nóra's family reported the fault before she went missing.

Negri Sembilan criminal investigations officer 🤬🤬🤬 Supt Chong Mee Chyi, said when the family checked in they contacted the management when they realised the window could not be closed securely.

Ms Chong said the family told her the resort took no action to fix the window and that the owner told them the accommodation "is very hot, so the window can be opened to allow for wind to enter"

Coroner Maimoonah Aid then asked Ms Chong about what other activities the family did before 22:00, when they said they went to sleep.

"They said they were in the living room, happy and chatting, before going to sleep…
I asked them, after checking in, did you go out of Sora House to go anywhere within or outside the Dusun area? They said no," she said.

I thought it was reported they went for a walk - Unless they did that before the house was ready for them to check in to ?

While the authorities were looking for the missing girl, a friend of Nora’s uncle received purported messages from relatives through WhatsApp, Chong Mee Chyi, Assistant Superintendent said before Coroner Maimoonah Aid.

‘On August 8, 2019, I was on standby at The Dusun resort and the family informed me that they had received several instant messages from spiritual mediums said to be based overseas who were willing to provide their assistance,’ Chong said.
One of them, Dominic, who was a friend of Quoirin’s uncle, then showed me the WhatsApp message he received from people claiming to have spiritual powers which I duly noted down and that he asked if we could look into the locations listed,’ the officer added.

The first of the three messages claimed that Nora was being followed by someone from the airport and that she was still alive.

The second lead indicated that she was held nearby The Dusun resort as the girl was in fear of her life and in need of her mother.

The last message said that the teenager was trapped in a van located at the south-western part of the jungle near The Dusun resort.

All of the messages were subsequently submitted to the search-and-rescue operation control centre for further action, according to the liaison officer.

Chong said the authorities had conducted their follow-up before receiving the messages.

Tracker dog info - more at link

A Police K-9 Unit handler testified in the Coroner's Court today, revealing that a German Shepherd search dog had failed to detect the scent of Nora Anne Quoirin on the first day of her disappearance last year.

In a subsequent query by Quoirin’s family lawyer, S. Sakthyvell, Sergeant Poo Kong San testified that the dog was around four-years-old and suffered from pre-existing health problems due to its age

To a question by lawyer Aliff Benjamin Suhaimi who is representing The Dusun on whether pre-existing health problems would affect a dog's ability to smell a scent, Sergeant Poo Kong San replied in the affirmative.

Unpopular opinion, but I honestly don't think an outsider abducted her. Not letting her siblings to be interviewed by LE doesn't sit right with me. A special needs 15-year-old girl goes missing on a foreign country, and her parents don't allow the children that were sleeping in the same room as the missing child to talk to LE? I don't like it.

I agree that they also should be interviewed by LE.

I’m confused. The inquest testimony quoted below by @Alyce says that she disappeared from the room she was staying in, which had a faulty window handle. Do they mean the blue shutter on the right of the photo posted from thread #1 shown below? In the DM article from last year, it claims that the downstairs window is the one from which she exited, leading to the question by @Ardoch...

So allegedly, N came down what looks like a steep and difficult staircase, possibly still jet lagged and exited a broken door with a moderately high up-step, on her first morning in an unfamiliar setting?
That's a tricky journey if you were disorientated. JMO IMO

Either way, her exit would have been difficult...either from a second story window or down a flight of stairs to exit from the living area near where her parents were sleeping. Of course, reporter error is always possible, but which account is wrong?

Did I read it correctly? They wasted time checking on locations a psychic sent in?

As it was just a balcony above a room, some would call it one room whether the window was downstairs or upstairs. It was always the bottom window when first reported. Not sure the broken lock is relevant when the front doors don’t have locks on them and the whole rear balcony downstairs is also open plan. Also puzzled why a stranger would be whatsapping the uncle in France??? And the CCTV footage was in the welcome room where the children were sat waiting for there Mum- if they had mentioned someone had been speaking to the children at the airport and they were then followed from the airport- it stands to reason this would also be on the CCTV.
Genuine question for those who like to theorise and have a better imagination than me- if someone genuinely stalked them, followed them and lay waiting overnight before snatching Nóra- how did he do it without disturbing the other two children, he must have lured her out- but would have to at least enter the building to do so.
