Mandatory Flu & Meningitis Vaccines for KIDS

  • #21
That's horrible; I didn't reallize children got it so young.

My husband has seen the devastation and horrible results and deaths by meningitis; it kills quickly.

You only have a chance for survival if you catch it very early.

OMG Martha, yes it was so horrilbe. He was fine before he went to bed at bedtime. He woke up in the middle of the night. We thought he had come down with the flu. He was very lethargic as well. We put him in bed with us. In the morning we couldn't wake him up. He was limp. We rushed him to his Pediatrician. He knew right away what he thought it was. We took him to the emergency room right then. It was a horrible few weeks. They told us he probably wouldn't make it through the night. But he did. He was seriously ill. But he made it, and had no after effects at all. He was perfect. :)

That sounds terrible; I hate to say this but don't your limbs starting "rotting off"? I think you lose your limbs; that is if you even survive.

I guess that's if it's gone too far into your brain and spine, and doesn't respond to treatment in time.

Yes horrible things like that happen. There was a few other babies in the hospital with him at the time. There was an epidemic at this time. One little girl her skin was dying off, she had black spots. It was horrific, we were so scared. We were in our 20's at this time, and were scared to death. God looked after our Josh, and pulled him through this nightmare. He's our youngest son and in the military now. He is well!!

I read an article about how prevalent this is in college kids and one of the girls in the article lost her arm and legs in a metter of hours. i belive they had become gangrenous, but I don't know what causes that in menengitis.

My 12 year old daughter got the meningitis vaccine this year for the first time. She is an athlete, goes to summer training camps at colleges where her team and other's stay in the unoccupied dorms. I really felt compelled to get this vacinne for her for those reasons and more!

now, now... let's all just bow down like good little sheep, and do what we're told.... m'kaaaaaay.....???

We are too, thank you!!:blowkiss:

Right back at you.:blowkiss: I never want the words "probably won't make it through the night" to be mentioned in the same sentence with one of my sons. Ever. You must have aged 20 years in that one moment. And the story leading up to it is so commonplace - I can't even remember all the times a sick child has come into bed with us. But they always woke up in the morning feeling better!

That's the problem though, when they are required we have no choice if we want to send our kids to school. I think health care desisions should be left to the parents naturally but more and more the powers that be step in our lives and sometimes we just don't have options anymore. What can you do?

I am so glad he is better and recovered. I can not imagine how you must have felt.

well, we can start by taking a stand against corporate powers. if people quit taking so many drugs all the time, that would be less money in their pockets. that would be a start anyway!

True, not all things we do at the doctor are mandatory, we just take their word that it is the best for us and do it no questions asked.
Anymore with my kids I question it after having steroids prescribed to my daughter when she was 6months old. I blindly took them and gave then to my daughter without even looking at side effects or anything. I felt like the worst mother ever. She cried for hours on end and wouldn't sleep for 2 nights straight, she had all the bad side effects, basically roid rage. I threw them away and said no next time they were prescribed. The doctor was less than thrilled. But you are right we need to stand up and just start questioning things and declining drugs and unnessisary treatments.

exactly!!! we should ALWAYS be questioning what doctors say... get a 2nd and even 3rd opinion if you can... and first of all find a doctor who is holistic rather than a conventional drug pusher. i don't even go to doctors personally.. luckily haven't had to see one in many years. but i guess it gets tricky when you have kids. the problem is these d*mn HMO's.. it's totally dehumanized the health care industry. i would never go to one of those places in a million years.
and yes we should always be doing our research before taking anything. now with the internet,, luckily we have lots of information at our disposal! unfortunately, with the vaccine info.. there's too much conflicting and confusing info out there. hopefully someday soon we will hear the REAL, unbiased truth (whatever it is).

Off topic, but have you watched "Sicko"?
Fortunatley or unfortunatley , I don't have to worry personally about doctors and over precribing drugs as I am uninsured. My kids though are insured and see a doctor regularly.

It's the patients who call time after time, trying to get more pain killers, etc. As long as they're insured, why not get more drugs? (some even not insured).

My husband is a doctor and very careful. He's regulated by the State Board, of course, and will hardly take any drugs himself!!

In general I do agree we take way too many drugs, but some can work miracles like anti-depressants, and the Statin drugs which lower cholesterol. I do think the drug companies are over charging in many cases.

I know some people actually Dr. shop to get constant perscriptions.

Martha, does your husband get "perks" from the drug companies to perscribe? My FIL was a travel agent and said he saw it all the time when booking for dr.'s travel and conventions- huge amounts of free drugs to pass around.
