Really? Wow. I was expecting a local disgruntled employee.

What in the world happened?

A police officer and at least two other people were shot and killed — and several others injured — by a crazed gunman who stormed a swanky Midtown skyscraper early Monday evening — before turning the gun on himself, sources said.

The man barged into the 44-story building — which houses Blackstone and the NFL headquarters — armed with a rifle and opened fire at around 6:30 p.m., law enforcement sources told The Post.

Cnn seems to be reporting something different

One civilian shot is in critical condition, according to a law enforcement official. Another civilian and the NYPD officer, who was shot in the back, are both expected to survive, the official told CNN. The NYPD bomb squad is on the scene
The nyp post also states

At least one police officer was shot at the scene and died at a hospital. At least two civilians were also struck by gunfire — one of which is also in critical condition, sources said

Which doesn't match with their initial statement, but does match up with what cbs is reporting

They may have walked that back, if you go to pix11 site, you see an article labeled

Four dead, including gunman, in MN shooting: sources

When you click it it now says

Multiple dead, including gunman and off-duty cop, in Manhattan skyscraper shooting: sources
Looks like it may be even higher.

A police officer and at least four other people were shot and killed — and several others injured — by a crazed gunman who stormed a swanky Midtown skyscraper early Monday evening — before turning the gun on himself, sources said.

The 27-year-old maniac, identified by sources as Shane Tamura, barged into the 44-story building — which houses Blackstone and the NFL headquarters — armed with a rifle and opened fire at around 6:30 p.m. during the evening rush, law enforcement sources told The Post.

There is a Shane Tamura who played football as a student. NFL is in the building where this shooting occurred. I have no idea if that is a connection.

Looks to be him.

Mine too, born and raised and still here.

I just returned home this afternoon from caring for my parents in Florida and hadn’t heard about this at all.

My mom used to work right around there.

How horrible. Not at all the typical murder scenario in NYC. Somewhat like Luigi Mangione.

Usually you have to show I.D. or an employee pass to get access past the lobby, which IMO makes this worse than Luigi, who was on the sidewalk.

Heartbroken for the murdered police victim and all others.

Imo, he shot the security guard inside the lobby, an off-duty NYPD.

(I don't have a link, so "imo.")

I agree - it's very jarring to see the photo of him carrying the weapon walking in midtown. That is not a typical scene at all!!
