I understand your point, but this was an average street in Midtown Manhattan, blocks from Times Square, with a large police presence. I can't think of the last mass shooting in Manhattan; the last I can think of was one out in Queens in a fast-food robbery at the turn of the century. I literally have never seen a long gun in person in my life, and had I seen this perp I would not have thought the worst (if it had been a samurai sword or a handgun, I would have thought the worst). Also, there are often films and TV shows filmed on ordinary streets and in ordinary buildings. Years ago I was coming home from work and as I approached my corner I saw a huge police/police car presence in front of my building, so I crossed the street and watched and waited... till Det. Lenny Briscoe came out .

And would just like to say to anyone who thinks that is cool, it's not. Get outta here with your plans to murder for a cause.

That makes sense. In NYC, it could have been a film prop. I recognize I have an alarmist viewpoint about guns in public places. My one nephew has argued with me about it - he lives in an area where people regularly carry rifles into Walmart, etc. I’ve said if I’m in McDonald’s with my kiddos and a dude walks in with a rifle I’m tossing a trash can at him. My nephew warned me I’d get shot for sure. Still think I’d do it, though.

Plus choosing NYC like Luigi did, high visibility to his "cause". I suppose he could have been blaming the NFL for inspiring young people to get into playing football.

And, It stinks that we are left to even have to consider what these nutcases had in their sick minds.

People get CTE through repeated and long-term blows to the head that resulted in a concussion. Especially if you played in college or professionally where people are generally hitting each other harder than they are when they are 15,16, or 17.

Given the fact that it doesn't appear he played past highschool I really do feel like this is more of an issue of people being properly medicated for mental illness than it is people having CTE.

@Dotta, three days ago, we were in Vancouver, BC. As I was texting to an acquaintance I typed, “I am in CA”. It occurred to me that they might think, California, but Canada is closer to our home city, so I let it stay. In the context of people mostly texting and abbreviating nowadays, such confusions do happen. It is another thing that such league is called CFL in Canada, not Canadian NFL.

People link American football with CTE now, but what about boxing, other contact sports, or experiencing explosion contusion (blast injury)?

So even post mortem evidence of CTE might not prove the causal link with playing football in high school. If Tamura graduated at 18, he had nine more years of life of which we know very little.

I paid attention that Tamura attended HS online and showed up for football practice, so there could have been some other issues in school, too.

I would rather suspect Tamura developing an overvalued idea about own CTE having watched the movie about NFL, while already being sick and paranoid. It had happened with other people and other movies before.

I don't think there are any articles that mention him playing in Canada. He played highschool football in California so it's possible someone in this thread mistook that for meaning Canada. I'm sure there are people posting in this thread who aren't familiar at all with U.S. States and English might not be their native language.

I definitely saw the article that spelled out Canadian Football League (no abbreviation). It came out early on. That information has been reported nowhere since then. I suspect whoever wrote the article had some bad information, corrected the article, and now that's why I can't locate it and why no other articles mention it. I am a football fan and rather informed on CTE, so this case has had my attention from the beginning.

Pro sports careers are only available to a small group of people. Find something better. Run for public office. There’s nothing special about pro sports.
