"The police searched for the missing boy for weeks. The homicide squad took over the case and formed a special commission. In fact, it initially appeared that the boy was the victim of a crime. On October 25th, the investigators believed they had solved the case: They arrested the unemployed electrician Michael K. in an apartment on Rosenthaler Strasse. The man admitted that he knew Marcel, but denied having done anything to the child. The investigators didn't believe him, especially since they found nude pictures of children in his apartment. It turned out that Michael K. had repeatedly taken children to his home to photograph them. In July 1998 the man was sentenced to probation for this. But the suspicion that Michael K. might have murdered Marcel Hermeking was not confirmed. The already dissolved "SoKo Marcel" was formed again, the investigations continued - to date without any results."
