Anyone know who the man is behind him? Part of his lawyer's team? A reporter?

It's sickening to watch. Absolutely shameless.
MS is sure chatty this morning. Very jovial and has a lot to say to his lawyers. He sickens me to no end. Ugh.

He's frenetic, alright. He looks like a flailing puppet. Poor Teresa's family has to put up with this crap.

Linda Otterstatter next witness.

  • #170
She's an FBI trace evidence analyst.

I'm back at the Lee County Justice Center where the #SieversTrial has resumed after a few days off for the holiday.

The prosecution has called it's first witness of the day. It's Linda Otterstatter, of the FBI’s trace evidence unit.

Otterstatter defines trace evidence for the jury. Trace evidence is small in size, such as hairs, fibers or soil, and can be transferred between two people or a person and an object.

Otterstatter explained to the jury how fibers are examined. Matching fibers is a process of elimination. Trace evidence is collected via picking, scraping, taping or vacuuming, Otterstatter said.

Once the trace evidence is collected, it is examined on glass slides underneath a microscope, Otterstatter said.

Trace evidence is examined to determine if it is a fiber or a hair. If it's a fiber, it is examined to determine if it is a natural fiber or man-made, Otterstatter said. Fibers are examined for many characteristics, such as color, shape and size, Otterstatter said.

Otterstatter is talking about fiber comparison microscopy. This technique is used for direct, side-by-side comparison, Otterstatter said.

Evidence recovered from the leg of Teresa Sievers matched fibers taken from a blue jumpsuit recovered in Missouri not far from the home of suspect Jimmy Ray Rodgers, Otterstatter testified last month in the Rodgers trial. I expect the court will hear about this shortly.

We're back this morning for #marksieversontrial. I hope everyone had a nice long weekend and enjoyed the #thanksgiving holiday. I'm #grateful for all my followers here interested in #swfl #trialtweets. #NBC2CourtCoverage

State is starting this morning with FBI trace evidence witness. She's the same we heard from in #jimmyrodgersontrial. Slow Monday morning for the jury with this extremely detailed evidence process.

Otterstatter is going over the techniques used to gather trace evidence from items brought in to get lab. Same testimony so far that we saw in JRR's trial.

I sure hope the whole day isn't like this. On the other hand, Mark is really enjoying the video presentation.

Otterstatter is walking the jury through the long process of determining if fibers are matches. At the end of the process, Otterstatter said it can be concluded that there is fiber exclusion or fiber association. A fiber association is not a means of positive identification.

Association is not a means of positive identification, but due to the variability, manufacturing, dying, consumer use and weathering, one would not expect to find a fiber at random that displays the same microscopic characteristics as a particular source, Otterstatter said.

Otterstatter said she was asked to examine evidence in the Sievers homicide investigation by the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Otterstatter is describing fibers taken from a known sample, which was a pair of coveralls from Doe Run where Rodgers was contracted to work in 2015.

Otterstatter said some of the evidence the FBI analyzed came from vacuum sweepings from the home of the Sievers and sweepings from a White Hyundai Elantra.

It's super early here. I got up apparently for fibers.

OMG ~ I have literally WAITED for this trial for 4 years, and somehow thought it would take forever to seat a jury! Then I completely forgot about it until today (banging my head)

Interesting how Mummert, turns his back/chair as much as possible to MS. Mummert’s pad of paper with notes, is also so far away the MS! That MS could not read it at all unless he is standing over Mummert.

Busy busy MS taking notes.

The poor jury! It's like the state never prepared for a separate trial for Mark. They're just reusing their material from the JRR trial.

Some of the evidence the FBI analyzed also came from a tape lift from Teresa Sievers' left leg, right foot and dress, Otterstatter said.

Fibers from the known samples were consistent with fibers recovered in the multiple areas of the White Hyundai Elantra, the front of Teresa Sievers' dress and her left leg as well as the kitchen floor of the Sievers home.

Now that the jury has heard how the evidence and known fiber samples were consistent, Otterstatter is re-explaining how she determined they were consistent.

Otterstatter said the fibers from a coverall suit recovered in Missouri were consistent with fibers recovered in the multiple areas of the White Hyundai Elantra, the front of Teresa Sievers' dress and her left leg as well as the kitchen floor of the Sievers home.

If there are differences between fibers, Otterstatter said she reaches a conclusion of exclusion.

Otterstatter said she also forwarded hairs recovered in the evidence to a different department of the FBI for analysis.

And the state is done with the trace evidence direct examination. Defense now questioning expert. Focus is on the fact that the analysis occurred on only coveralls collected and not 100% reliable.

I'm not an attorney but curious how far defense goes in this. It connects to the act of murder by #CurtisWright plea,#JimmyRodgersontrial (2nd degree murder, not first) but not the conspiracy alleged in this case.
