Married Couple Shot to Death Inside Peoria, AZ Home - Nov 11, 2023

Police went to a home around 4 a.m. near 79th Avenue and Mescal Street, which is north of Peoria Avenue, after the wife called 911 saying she had been shot. When officers arrived, they found the husband and wife shot. The husband died at the scene, while the wife was taken to the hospital, where she later died. Peoria police say another family member was inside the house when the gunshots rang out. They were not hurt and talked to officers when they arrived.

Detectives believe somebody forced their way into the home and don’t believe this was a random act of violence. “Regardless of the reason that led to this, it could’ve just as easily been wrong house, wrong place, wrong time. And that could’ve been my dad. That could’ve been my mom. So, it’s not a great feeling,” said Jennifer Nichols, a neighbor.

PEORIA, Ariz. — Police are looking for the suspect in a deadly home invasion in Peoria, according to authorities.

The Peoria Police Department has identified married couple Walter Mitchell, 52, and Susie Ephrem, 42, as the victims who were killed in the incident.

Police said someone broke into the couple's home near 75th and Peoria Avenues early Saturday morning around 4 a.m. and shot them.

Peoria Police Investigate Double Homicide​

On November 11, at approximately 4:12 AM, Peoria Police responded to the report of a shooting inside a residence near N. 78th Avenue and W. Mescal Street. The victim reported she had been shot along with her husband inside her residence.

Officers arrived on scene and located two victims inside a residence with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The male victim died from his injuries on scene. He has been identified as 52-year old Walter Mitchell from Peoria, Arizona. Lifesaving measures were performed on the female victim on scene. She was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, where she died from her injuries. She has been identified as 42-year-old Susie Ephrem from Peoria, Arizona.

Preliminary information shows there was forced entry into the residence. This incident is not believed to be a random act. Detectives are working diligently to identify who the suspect(s) are. They are conducting interviews with neighbors, family members and witnesses. At this time, no arrests have been made. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we conduct our investigation.
