UK Mary Molloy, 68, hillwalking on the Isle of Rum, Scotland 25 May 2024

A remote west coast island has been at the epicentre of a major search operation as efforts to track down a missing hillwalker continue.

But today there are no land searches planned in the hunt for Mary Molloy who was last seen five days ago.

The 68-year-old was last seen walking in the area between Trollabhal’ and ‘Bealack an Fhuarain’ on the Isle of Rum at around 2.30pm on Saturday.

At around 6.30pm that evening, she made contact with her family.

Sadly, she has not been heard from since.

It is unclear where Mary was at the time of her call, but officers believe she may have attempted to make her way back to the Dibidil area before becoming disorientated.

As per the previous post, her daughter says she has had an accident. I wonder what her mom said on that phone call. The news doesn't talk about an accident so???

Not that I imagine it makes much difference to the search, but that should be 'Bealach an Fhuarain'. It's wrong in the quoted article, nothing to do with you, StillDiggin. It's spelt correctly on Police Scotland's page though.

Sad news, RIP Mary
A body of a woman has been recovered from the Isle of Rum during the afternoon of Saturday, 1 June, 2024.

The woman has yet to be formally identified, however the family of Mary Molloy, who had been reported missing in the area, have been made aware.

Enquiries are ongoing but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
