MD - 61 yo man attacked by 50 teens, Baltimore, April 2015

Did the article say the video was handed over to the police by the person that made it? I didn't see that part.

I have to wonder what the victim was thinking when he walked out to address that mob by himself and unarmed.

Since they were jumping on his truck, my guess is he was thinking they needed to get off his truck.

perhaps misleading wording i used . . . the student??? who took the video slipped it under a school door. imo he/she has a conscience and hopefully this person's identity (if discovered) will be kept private - for i'd hate to see what the remaining kids that haven't been charged would do to him/her.

sad sad sad all around.

this article says there will be preliminary hearings next week . . . 2 quotes from the article for reference:

As police investigated the case, they obtained cellphone footage of the attack, surveillance video and a flash drive with additional video that had been slipped under a door at Baltimore Community High School

Several of the teens charged in the attack have preliminary hearings scheduled for next week

Ahhh...okay. Most of the time the police find out about the videos after they were posted online. Didn't realize it was in the Baltimore Sun article.

Just watched the video of this. Horrific.

Does anyone know if there have been any further arrests?

Videos of these sorts of attacks are very important. Without the videos many folks would have no clue this sort of thing actually happens, and it happens more frequently than they think.

Folks think "this couldn't happen to me". Well depending on where you live, or where you go, yes it CAN happen to you.

Yes, it happens a lot more than one would think if one goes by what's reported in MSM. Police reports, media reports ... they all downplay the seriousness of these types of attacks.

This attack was very serious. It should be treated as such. IMO, it was attempted murder, and should be charged as such.

How appalling!

I have a 17yr old son who would not dare be involved with anything like this. He has morales, and has been brought up to respect his elders. He cuts the grass for my elderly neighbour and puts his rubbish out each week. He wouldn't dream of taking a penny off him. He does it to help the guy out!
What makes these groups of youths think they are above the law and can go on a rampage like this?
I'm sorry, but attacking someone like a pack of wolves is the lowest of the low. Doesn't make them 'tough' or 'hard'. COWARDS, that's what they are!

Dundalk Area Legislators Demand Closure of Baltimore Community High School After Beating.
Dundalk, MD - May 19th 2015

An open letter to the Mayor of Baltimore, Baltimore City Schools Board Chair, and CEO of Baltimore City Schools:

Maryland’s 6th District Delegation joins 7th District Baltimore County Councilman Todd Crandell in requesting the immediate closure of the Baltimore Community High School located at 6820 Fait Ave, Baltimore, MD 21224.

The school’s failure to successfully address decades-long student behavioral issues coupled with the school’s poor location finally led us to a serious incident this past April 24th. Baltimore County Police performed several arrests as well as committing resources for increased patrols, yet the both Baltimore City Police as well as Baltimore City Schools Police and the school’s Principal have shown little commitment to solving this systemic issue.

We believe that this issue cannot be resolved under current jurisdiction. Recent arrests and increased police presence has only served to heighten tensions and further increase the danger to both students and residents. Perhaps at no time in the past decade have things been more dangerous than they are right now.

It is our considered opinion that the only remedy is to close the Baltimore Community High School after the 2014-2015 Academic Year. We have not reached this opinion lightly; however, after many meetings with both the community and Baltimore City Schools, we are not convinced that an acceptable and effective remedy can be implemented before the next school year. We request expeditious closing of this school for the good of the students and the Harborview Community in Dundalk.

Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to your prompt response to this sensitive issue.

Respectfully Yours,

Baltimore County Councilman Todd Crandell
Senator Johnny Ray Salling
Delegate Bob Long
Delegate Ric Metzgar
Delegate Robin Grammer

and the response to that will be 'but they are closing their school! You can't do that, where will the little darlings go?"

A near-death vicious attack of a Dundalk man allegedly at the hands of students has a community searching for options for a school that they say has been a bad neighbor for too long.

Members of a frustrated and fearful Dundalk community met Monday night to find ways to deal with Baltimore Community High School, an alternative school for students who have learning disabilities and behavior issues. It's in a neighborhood where some people say they avoid going outside when school lets out each day.

For years, vandalism, burglaries, there have been beatings, this is the worst one. The next step is someone is going to get murdered," said Barb Ferguson, of Dundalk.

Most of the students at the school live in Baltimore City and take Maryland Transit Administration buses to and from the school. After the beating of Fletcher, MTA agreed to pick up and drop off the students closer to the school, but residents and state and local officials are searching for a permanent fix.

This is a community where residents say after their neighbor was nearly beaten to death, they’re scared to leave their homes, unable to enjoy their lives and are pleading for something to be done.

They throw trash, they spit, they holler,” said Rosco.

Neighbors say right after the beating, security was high in the community, with officers and teachers on every corner. But since then, incidents are still unfolding.

“I had an incident on Friday. And if they were bused or if these teachers were walking them, the incident would never have happened,” said Rosco.

Antoine Lawson was charged with attempted murder

He said: 'It has gotten out of hand now, gone too far.

'The kids walk on top of cars, kick dogs, let dogs out, throw trash, steal milk from school and throw it at houses, threaten neighbors with bodily harm.'

Kinda saw that coming. Horrible. I'd pack my bags.
