BALTIMORE -- Morgan State University is looking into a report that shots have been fired near or on campus, according to authorities.

Everyone has been asked to shelter in place and avoid the area, police said in a social media post.

WJZ's Kelsey Kushner reports that police confirmed to her that the shooter was shooting out of a dorm window.

The shooting mars another campus celebration at Morgan. Earlier Tuesday evening, the students were celebrating the annual coronation of Mister and Miss Morgan State University. The university homecoming celebration is scheduled for Saturday.
In October last year, a student was shot during an unsanctioned homecoming party outside university’s student center. And in October 2021, a student was shot during a campus fight amid the homecoming celebrations.
The shooting was reported to have occurred in the 1700 block of Argonne Drive, the address of a student dormitory and adjacent to the Northeastern District police station.

Morgan State University President David Wilson said he had canceled Wednesday's classes, and would hold an emergency meeting Wednesday morning to decide whether to hold other events planned for the runup to the school's homecoming game, which is scheduled to be played on Saturday.

“It is unfortunate that this tragedy happened here tonight,” he said. “By no means will it define who we are as a university.”

The university, which has about 9,000 students, was founded in 1867 as the Centenary Biblical Institute with an initial mission of training men for ministry, according to its website. It moved to its current site in northeast Baltimore in 1917, and was purchased by the state of Maryland in 1939 as it aimed to provide more opportunities for Black citizens.

Apparently, they haven't caught the shooter(s) yet.

The police have not located a suspect or made any arrests, Mr. Worley said. But he said that the decision to lift the shelter-in-place order came after it was determined that there was no longer an active shooter situation.
