Woman Found Dead Off Maryland Trail Identified as 20-Year-Old Hyattsville Resident

The woman found dead by a jogger on New Year's morning has been identified as a 20-year-old Hyattsville resident.

The body of Catherine Alvarado was found about 7:20 a.m. Friday off the Northwest Branch Trail, near Rosa L. Parks Elementary School, in Chillum, Maryland, Prince George's County police said.

Alvarado had trauma to the upper body.

A death investigation is underway. Detectives don't believe this was a random act, police said Saturday.

A jogger found the body of Catherine Alvarado, 20, along the Northwest Branch Trail in Hyattsville on New Year’s Day. Police have arrested 18-year-old Marvin Vazquez-Juarez, a man who they said was formerly in a romantic relationship with the victim

Marvin Vazquez-Juarez, 18, has been charged with first and second-degree murder in connection with the death of 20-year-old Catherine Alvarado.
