There is about a three hour gap from the time she got gas to the time she parked her car (9 miles from the gas station.) And, there is a 90 minute gap from the time she parked her car until she got into the SUV. What she was doing during those blocks of time is undoubtedly part of the investigation. The police chief said in Friday's press conference that they have subpoenaed for her phone records. Hopefully, it won't be long before they receive them.

I feel terrible for her family.

How devastating. So sorry for her family.

I have a couple of theories as to why she would willingly get into this freak’s SUV.

She may have been buying drugs from him or even selling to him. They may have been talking online and he catfished her. Or it may have been a sex work situation. I can’t imagine a beautiful girl like her wanting anything to do with him besides those.

IMO if she was buying drugs, she wouldn't have left her purse and $60 in her car. Even if she was selling them, which I doubt (JMO), I'd think she wouldn't have left her purse in her car. Things are adding up here to me.

She explained that DaCara is the youngest of five, and they all share locations through the Find My Phone app. When she checked' DaCara's location, she saw that it was turned off, and that the last spot it was turned on at was near the intersection of Jasmine Terrace and Riggs Road. Since Daniel Thompson was closer to the address, he headed there.

"As soon as he pulled up, he said, 'The car is here,'" said Carmen Thompson.

He told WUSA9 that his daughter's SUV was parked illegally, on the wrong side of the street, and in front of a fire hydrant. He immediately called the police.

SBM from the news link above. Clarifying for others like me that didn’t understand, she did take her cell phone, it was not found in her car. Only her purse was left there. Her location was turned off as she walked away from the car. That’s interesting?
Didn't want family to know where she was heading , it would seem she was doing something that would go down well with her folks .

From the NBC Washington article linked in post #30:

Her parents are still unsure but think the person walking in a grainy surveillance video could be Dacara Thompson walking in that neighborhood around 1:30 a.m. Saturday Aug. 23.
The time of her being out and about is unusual if she was an introvert and didn't have many friends which is usually code for one or two but didn't really see them much or regularly imo

Cops say the suspected killer then dumped Thompson’s body in the grassy field about 7 miles from the murder scene, according to WTOP.

Authorities are still investigating exactly how she died.

Speaking with CBS affiliate WUSA, her father said that after an hour went by and she hadn't returned he gave her a call, but she didn't pick up. By 11:50 p.m., he sent her a text saying he was going to bed and just wanted to check on her.

He told the outlet that she responded immediately and wrote, "I should be back soon. I love you too. Goodnight <3". His attempts to reach her the following day were unsuccessful.

Is it looking like someone else had access to her phone at that time and didn't answer but sent a text pretending to be Decara

Sorry if this has been said just catching up

Sad. He doesn't look like the type of guy she would be interested in.

From the same link:

Thompson, a recent graduate of St. Charles High School in Waldorf, Maryland, was living at home while working at a nonprofit as part of a Service Year program for recent graduates, according to Braveboy, the county executive.

“This is a young woman who dedicated part of her young life to serving others, to serving others, and I want that to bring home to all of you that this is a good, good, good young woman who wanted to do good for her community, and now her community will stand behind her family as we seek justice for her,“ Braveboy said.

From the article, officers state Dacara was seen approaching a black suv at 3am spoke with occupant and proceeded to get in the vehicle.

She was seen at around 1.30 am getting out of her own car . Is this right ? So where was she for an hour and a half . She had gas ,so was not broken down because we know her father was able to drive the car the following day .

Was she speaking to the occupant for an hour and a half before she got into the car or did she walk a distance before coming across the car ? Was she lost ,looking for directions? Had she been in this neighbourhood before ?

Since msm tied in these two women's disappearances, I did little more checking on the other woman named with DeCara as being missing from Hyatsille. , I'm even now more inclined to believe they are not related. From:
The older woman (Erica) has a pending court action for which a summons was issued (consumer debt, not criminal). She has a history of some financial issues, tax liens, etc. so this might be something that, though not a big event to many of us, may have overwhelmed her and she just got away for a bit. Sad. He doesn't look like the type of guy she would be interested in.
Reminded me of Jocelyn Nungerey especially the illegal migrant perpetrator aspect although JN was only 12 looked quite a bit older.
Terrible outcome the worst here

Court records show Hugo Hernandez-Mendez, the suspect in the U.S. illegally and charged with 19yo Dacara Thompson’s murder, worked at a Baltimore-based landscaping company.
•He told police he was at a nightclub to meet his ex but never did, denied involvement in the killing, then asked for a lawyer, according to charging documents.
The body was thrown more than 30 feet over a bridge into the South River off Route 50 near Annapolis. •Police found multiple pairs of women’s underwear, blood, a wig and one of Thompson’s fingernails during a search warrant of Hernandez-Mendez’s home.
•Prince George’s County officials said U.S. Park Police arrested him for a DUI in April but let him go pending trial.

I can't imagine it was a "hookup" with him since she left personal stuff behind.
Curious if you will share your logic here.

If she was hooking up or just hooking, to me that would be exactly the right situation in which to leave her stuff in the car. Keep it simple - don't bring anything extra or anything to identify her, make exit easier, reduce risk of leaving anything behind, reduce risk of theft.

IMO if she was buying drugs, she wouldn't have left her purse and $60 in her car. Even if she was selling them, which I doubt (JMO), I'd think she wouldn't have left her purse in her car. Things are adding up here to me.
If I was buying drugs off the street I would most definitely just take the exact amount I need and leave everything else in the car, because 1. I want a quick transaction and don't want to be there counting money or rummaging in my wallet, 2. I'm less likely to be robbed if I don't show I have more money.

Then again, I've never bought drugs 😅

I am still puzzled by the timeline though
Where was she for 3hrs before she left her car and for almost 2 hrs between then and when she got into the SUV?

I don't think there is any reason to question that she sent the text. IIRC the text to her dad was sent about 11:30pm. After that, her last phone location was traced to Hyattsville, and she was seen on camera leaving her car in Hyattsville at 1:30am. So....she was alive at the time the text was sent, and was seen alone 2 hours later.
