DaCara Rose Thompson
Age: 19
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 105 lbs
Hair: Brown, long
Eyes: Brown
Marks: Tattoos on her right side and left arm
Wearing: Dark jacket and jeans, nose ring

DaCara Rose Thomson's parents reported her missing to Prince George's County, MD Police Dept on August 22, 2025. I'm summarizing information found in the linked articles and videos. Each one has the same basic facts, but there is also something a little bit different in each of them.

She lives with her father in Lanham, MD.

At about 10:00 pm on Friday, August 22, she told her dad "I'm going out. I'll be back."

At 11:50 pm her dad sent her a text, telling her he was going to bed. She sent a return text saying she was got gas and would return soon.

She was seen on video at a Shell gas station in Lanham, located at the Eastgate Shopping Center, getting gas for her 2013 pearl white Ford Edge.

She is the youngest of 5 siblings. The family shares locations through the Find My Phone App, and her mom found that her last location was near the intersection of Jasmine Terrace and Riggs Rd in Hyattsville, about 9-miles from her home.

Her father found her car in the 1800 block of Jasmine Terrace, parked illegally on the wrong side of the street in front of a hydrant. Her purse was in the car, along with her driver's license, bank cards, house keys, and $60 cash. Her phone and key fob were missing and the phone has been disabled. Her father called the police. The police didn't search the car; they told her dad to take it home, because if it was left there it would be towed. They said she would have to call police when she returned and the car wasn't there.

DaCara was seen on a neighborhood surveillance video at 1:30 am, parking the car where it was found in the 1800 block of Jasmine Terrace, then walking down the street in the direction of Riggs Rd.

Her mom sat in a car at that location for two days, hoping that DaCara would return, looking for her car.

Her mom says that DaCara is an introvert and doesn't have a large group of friends. It is not like her to be out of touch with her family.

Her family has been searching, putting up posters, and spreading the word on social media. They are grateful for all of the community support they have been receiving. Prince George's detectives continue to investigate.

The family is holding a vigil on Sunday, August 31, 5:30 pm, at Jasmine Terrace and Riggs Rd in Hyattsville. They are asking attendees to wear pink.

She clearly was doing something there, had to meet someone or go somewhere cause she was seen parking the car herself (presumably alone) and walking away from it.
Probably phone and social media activity would clarify if she was in contact with someone.

Close to the intersection between Jasmin terr and Riggs rd there are a bunch of shops, a fire station, etc...doubt she was going there as the shops have plenty of parking, wouldn't make sense for her to park on a side street. On the other side of the intersection it's all residential it seems.
They should have plenty of surveillance cameras though, so hopefully they can see where exactly she was going.

I'm thinking she was meeting someone.

Definitely but it’s weird if so that she left everything in her car.

Most people have a habit of taking their purse with them, especially if they’re taking their phone. Very worried for her given her closeness with family and time that has elapsed.. very hopeful they can get app search warrants asap!

But in this case since we know she was seen parking the car and leaving her stuff, "most people" isn't really relevant, right? Or do you think that tells us something still?

Yes I had the same thought. But if she had to get out of the car just for a couple of minutes to go and grab something or do something quickly maybe she just didn't bother.

It's so strange though. Surely there is something we are missing. She's been gone for a good while now.

Are they sure the girl walking away from her car in the neighborhood is Dacara?
Why mention the Shell if that was not the known seen last location?
Is the stop at the shell important ?

When it was first reported that she was seen at the Shell station, it was the location where she was last seen. Later, the video footage was found of her leaving her parked car and walking down the street, and now that is the last seen location. The Aware Foundation poster was apparently posted before the Hyattsville video was found.

Definitely appears Dacara left her vehicle to meet someone. It must have been something she anticipated would only take a minute?

She parked her car the wrong way in front of a fire hydrant. That sounds like she was rushing and wasn’t thinking clearly.

Are we sure that was her walking away from the car?

She explained that DaCara is the youngest of five, and they all share locations through the Find My Phone app. When she checked' DaCara's location, she saw that it was turned off, and that the last spot it was turned on at was near the intersection of Jasmine Terrace and Riggs Road. Since Daniel Thompson was closer to the address, he headed there.

"As soon as he pulled up, he said, 'The car is here,'" said Carmen Thompson.

He told WUSA9 that his daughter's SUV was parked illegally, on the wrong side of the street, and in front of a fire hydrant. He immediately called the police.

SBM from the news link above. Clarifying for others like me that didn’t understand, she did take her cell phone, it was not found in her car. Only her purse was left there. Her location was turned off as she walked away from the car. That’s interesting?

The part I find really strange about all of this is her car. Parked illegally on the wrong side of the street in front of a hydrant? That's sure odd to me.

It makes me think she intentionally parked that way so her car would get attention. Because she had to know it would. IF she was in the right frame of mind. If she wasn't in the right frame of mind, she might not have even thought twice about parking there.

So which is it? Intentionally? Or not in the right frame of mind and didn't even notice that what she was going was not only wrong (parking on the wrong side of the street), but also illegal (hydrant).

Add to that mystery what was left behind in the car. I can't help but think she might have been suicidal. The one thing that makes me think she wasn't suicidal is she gassed up. No one needs gas on the road to heaven.

Surely LE has her cell records by now? That should tell them who she may have been communicating with at the time she walked away from the car?

Her family has not said whether she was seeing anyone or if she was having any problems? Only that she always responded and it wasnt like her to drop out like this.

One thought I had due to the parking of the car. Could she have thought she hit someone/something and she parked quickly to check?

That road in the video interviews looks like it’s pretty busy. Maybe at night it’s not, but not like it’s off the beaten path. Do we have any locals here?

I'm wondering if there was a fender bender right before she parked. That might be a reason for her park strangely and leave things in the car since she thought she would be right there. She might take the phone to call 911 or photograph any damage, etc.

Then, perhaps the "fender bender" conversation went haywire.

Just thinking of scenarios that would cause her to get out of the car.

I hope there are cameras should the moments before she parked.

Wondering what the parking availability would be like at 1:30am in that neighborhood. She would probably want to park as close as possible to wherever she was going. Since she left her purse in the car, it seems as if she planned to be back soon. If there was no nearby place on the street to park legally, she might have thought it was worth the risk to park illegally since she would be right back. What quick errand was she running at 1:30 in the morning?

I feel like she pulled up to talk to someone (maybe tell someone off?) and it went bad.

I'm relatively local. I don't need to get verified for this kind of thing right? I don't generally drive around at 1:30am lol so I can't speak to that time specifically but in general Riggs Rd is well traveled.

That's not a great area. The shopping center and bus depot on 193/University Blvd to the south attract loiterers. There's a lot of shoplifting and stuff. I'm not sure how physically dangerous it really is, and I'm not sure about Jasmine Terrace specifically, but the overall vibes of the Riggs Rd/University Blvd area are sketchy IMO. I would not want to go there at that time of night and it's not the kind of place I would leave my purse visible in my car.

It's extremely common around here for people to park illegally, especially if they are not going to stay long. I don't think I would read too much into that.

I always am glad when a local is on a thread! Thanks for your insight.
