I'm relatively local. I don't need to get verified for this kind of thing right? I don't generally drive around at 1:30am lol so I can't speak to that time specifically but in general Riggs Rd is well traveled.

That's not a great area. The shopping center and bus depot on 193/University Blvd to the south attract loiterers. There's a lot of shoplifting and stuff. I'm not sure how physically dangerous it really is, and I'm not sure about Jasmine Terrace specifically, but the overall vibes of the Riggs Rd/University Blvd area are sketchy IMO. I would not want to go there at that time of night and it's not the kind of place I would leave my purse visible in my car.

It's extremely common around here for people to park illegally, especially if they are not going to stay long. I don't think I would read too much into that.
Thanks for the intel. Her Dad was very alarmed when he arrived and saw where and how the car was parked. He said he immediately called the cops.

Someone’s camera caught “someone who looked like DaCara” walking away from the car. But there has been no other mention of video after that.

Thanks again for letting us know what the area is like!

Google images are a bit dated but this is all apartment buildings/housing. Makes it seem less significant that she pulled up wrong way in front of a hydrant to me. Not sure why, maybe just because not busy street?

In Chicago, our neighborhood has more cars than garages so lots of street parking. The hydrants are regularly parked in front of, and people don't always park in the right direction either, where they can snag a spot, they do. before someone coming the other direction takes that last spot. The police rarely ticket anyone so it just keeps occurring.

So the way her car was found, if it was a busy area, didn't strike me as being alarming.

That's fair, not everyone parks illegally haha so if her dad was alarmed by it it was probably unusual for her!

I would like to know more about her lifestyle. Her mom said she is an introvert who doesn't have a lot of friends and doesn't hang out with groups of friends. I haven't seen anything said about her daily routine. Did she work or was she a student? If not with friends, how does she usually spend her free time?

Thompson is the youngest of five siblings. Her mom says she had dreams of going into the Air Force one day.

"There’s been no activity on her bank account. There’s been no activity on her phone or her social media at all," Carmen said. "That’s what’s leading us to believe that she may be abducted."

I hate saying this but abducted (and still alive) seems like the family is trying to spin a positive light on this. I sure hope they are right, because abducted isn't what comes to mind for me, unfortunately. Not with no activity after all this time. :(

The parents of Dacara Thompson took the search for their daughter to a new location Monday, about a half a mile from where her car was found.

The 19-year-old has been missing for 10 days, and her parents decided to search a wooded area near the old Adelphi Mill on Riggs Road.

*****
She has spent 10 days searching for her daughter and thought the mill was a good place to look.

“I’m exhausting any resource, anything I can think of,” she said. “I noticed this yesterday as I rode by to go to the location. I noticed on my right view as I went by and made a note to come back here also this morning.”

*****
Carmen and Daniel Thompson say Prince George's County police are assisting in the search and asked they not share certain details with the public.

“I guess they don’t want to mess up an active investigation, but they are doing some stuff,” Daniel Thompson said.

“It was very unusual because I have never known her to come to this area,” her mother said. “We’ve never discussed anything about ever coming to meet anyone over in this area. We don’t know anyone in this area.”

*****
Prince George's County police told News4 it is investigating the incident and looking to locate her, but there is no new information at this time.

Dacara Thompson is not considered critically missing because she is 19 years old and legally considered an adult.

“See what nonprofit they’re working for to see if we can give support in that way from the council," Wanika Fisher, Prince George’s County Council member for District 2, said.

"Something I committed to the family is I’m gonna look be looking at our rules and our standards around missing person reporting here in the county, especially for maybe our young people to see if there’s anything we can adjust to make things easier and make sure law enforcement are on things even sooner,” Fisher also said.

Was it her walking away ?

From the NBC Washington article linked in post #30:

Her parents are still unsure but think the person walking in a grainy surveillance video could be Dacara Thompson walking in that neighborhood around 1:30 a.m. Saturday Aug. 23.

So the sighting on CCTV (if time stamped correctly) means she was out for 3 hrs after she was seen at the gas station.
And she sent a text to her father at 11:50pm saying that she was out and she would be back soon.
So as far as we know she was ok and doing her own thing, and she must have been somewhere with someone.
If she was at a bar/pub/club there would have been more CCTVs and sightings probably, so my next best guess is that either we are not privy to the info or she was at someone's place or in a private meetup so to speak (i.e. not in a public space with people around and cameras).

I also hope they are right, and we've seen some unusual cases here on WS, so you never know. But I get extremely alarmed when a woman is separated from her purse and car for a long period of time. And in this case, she has her phone and key fob, but the phone is disabled. Not good.

The family or law enforcement is gonna have to release more ,if they want this case to move foreword. IMO,

I have that same question, but I'm leaning toward it being her. She is petite and slender, and the figure in the video also looks small. And if it were someone else, why would they leave a purse behind - you'd think they would take that?

I don't think abduction is off the table. To me, it looks like she left the car with a deliberate purpose and she assumed she would not be her far from the car. It's unsual for a woman to leave a purse behind, unless she were near it. It's possible, someone prevented her from returning.

I know people are suggesting the way she parked is not significant, but I still think it indicates she didn't intend for the car to be there long.

Her family describes her as an introvert so I don't think she was secretly out clubbing. But where did she go after the gas station??

Oh boy, “grainy” footage … that doesn’t bode well. It may not have even been DaCara. Which would explain the parking job and the area being unfamiliar to the family. But that doesn’t mean she couldn’t have agreed to meet someone there. She’s nineteen, not a minor who has to have permission.

But if it wasn't her (which I'm not discounting as a possibility) why did her phone ping there last and then suddenly turn off? if someone took the car and leave it there, why not turn the phone off earlier so the car would not be in the same spot where the phone pinged? and why take her phone out of the car and leave the purse?
And if they were just dumping the car, why not do it in a more remote area where it would take longer to find it?

So many questions 🤔

I'm hoping DaCara returns home safe.
She parks, leaves her purse, and only takes her phone and key fob.
Could she have been going to confront someone?

Did she regularly carry her purse with her into stores, or did she just carry her cash, or card in her hands? (One of my daughters is always leaving her purse and work bag in the car, carrying card and cash in hand or stored in her phone case. I'm waiting to get a call from her that someone knocked a window out and stole them).

The phone being disabled is strange. Has law enforcement verified this or referred to her phone in this way? Is the sim not registering for the phone or has the service been disconnected? Could her family referring to it as disabled simply mean turned off, or tracking apps turned off?

Is anyone leaning towards a voluntary disappearance? I don't have a theory yet.
