ITA - coming from an area where, over the years, I have watched dozens of children (some not even children yet, but infants) die in drive-by shootings. Almost on a daily basis. I just keep asking - where is the justice for them?

***sigh*** but that's JMVHO

I will go a step further and say where is the justice for all of us who have to pay for these criminals in more than one way.

No matter what happens in this case Baltimore is going to burn.

She takes it to court and wins, they will burn it in jubulation and for all previous percieved injustices.

She takes it to court and loses they will burn in retaliation.

A special prosecutor takes the case and dismisses it, she will come out a hero and B'more will burn in retaliation.

A special prosecutor takes it to court and no matter if they win or lose the city burns.

Maybe I am just a pessimist, but I don't see any other outcomes. Or any solutions. The only saving grace is that it will buy time for businesses to install stronger security.
And if they move the case to another jurisdiction, well....

I am not sure why the prosecutor needs to have her case 100% figured out at this point. Should she be expected to present the entire case tomorrow?

I wasn't aware that there are riots anytime a decision involving a police brutality case happens.

She damn sure better have evidence of murder before she holds a press conference accusing LE of such.

Baltimore Mayor is on right now praising the police and also saying that justice will be done.

She always appears to be sulking and pouting, IMO

And you know she has no evidence? There's a reason why trials do not start the day after someone is arrested. Both sides need time to get their case ready.

Doesn't have to even be police brutality. See "hands up, don't shoot" for a prime example.

Before she files charges she should be able to say with certainty who did what to who, otherwise how would she know what charges are appropriate? She should also have evidence to prove each of points of the crime. Evidence enough to convince an impartial jury. Otherwise she runs the risk of being in the middle of trial prep and new evidence coming up that points in a different direction.

I am still struggling with how this is homicide. I apologize if I missed the actual explanation. I asked DH MD how a tracheal/C spine/spinal cord injury could have occurred causing cardiac arrest, when a person was put on the floor of a police van or in the sitting position. His response was an overly aggressive choke hold gone wrong. If FG had a missed C spine injury from an MVA, it could have been further aggravated by an over zealous arrest. (Similar to EG in NYC). IMO

I wonder if Rice is in custody... concerned considering his past with MH issues.

This was probably posted but I missed it so others likely did too.

A while back there was a debate on here regarding what the mayor meant when she said "give them space".

Now there are supposedly multiple sources that claim the mayor ordered the police to stand down during the Monday night riots and said "Let them loot, it's only property".

Seems there should be some sort of civil litigation that could be pursued against the mayor by the citizens that had their businesses looted and burned, suffered assaults and had their lives put in danger.

I have a stupid question for those who've followed a lot more closely. A lot of people get broken spines and do not die, so what is the actual cause of death? And is that a complication from the broken spine? Or is the broken spine only being mentioned so frequently to show the extent of the injuries like he had xyz injuries as well as a broken spine. I'm oblivious to a lot of medical things but I didn't know a broken spine caused death. TIA

When a city has become a pressure cooker it will let off steam periodically until the heat is turned off.

The location of the spine injury ie cervical.

Will go to Grand Jury first.

Has not been an indictment yet.

The location of the spine injury ie cervical.

It is possible the location of the spinal cord injury affected his breathing which resulted in a brain injury (hypoxia) which ultimately led to his death.

Okay now I can ask. What is the race of the officers?

The driver, who has the most serious charges, is African American.
