Several members of Jacquelyn Smith’s family had doubted that story from the beginning, said her brother Marcel Trisvan of Havre de Grace.

Trisvan said Keith Smith moved out of his sister’s Aberdeen house two weeks ago. He handed the keys over to Trisvan, and told the family he was moving to Florida. Trisvan said his sister owned the home.

He said Keith Smith removed all the appliances from the home.

Reached by phone, mother of Jacquelyn Smith told the 11 News I-Team that she is "overjoyed" to hear of arrest in the case. Asked if she thought the husband might allegedly be involved, she said, "Oh yes ... from the beginning. Jacquelyn was cautious, not stupid."

I do courier work in md. I had a pickup in west baltmore month ago and gave money to a man at red light, day time mind you. No way no how would I go there at night.

I also put $20 bucks gas & 2 piece chix & fries for a fellow at the pump w/ a flat.

Just the way I am.

I will say that in this area “baltimore” there were ppl that did not believe it. Talk radio.

Keith Smith has a history of committing serious crimes for money. In September 2000, he led police on a chase, then crashed into a city patrol car, sending an officer to the hospital. Smith was pursued as a bank robbery suspect.

Once arrested, police reports said, he admitted to robbing the same bank in Timonium three times. His modus operandi was to force tellers to the floor at gunpoint and order them to turn over money. He told investigators he was HIV-positive and needed the money to raise his daughter.

When his wife of four years began talking about divorce, Keith Tyrone Smith sought help. “Keith Smith asked him to get rid of Jacquelyn,” Donnell Morgan, a friend, told police. Morgan said he was told this by Vick Smith — and said he interpreted that to mean Keith wanted Vick “to kill/murder her.” Morgan said he has known Keith Smith for 30 years and was the best man at the couple’s wedding.

Keith Smith moved to Winter Haven, Fla., last month where he rented a house, where investigators executed a search and recovered evidence. On March 1, police said, Smith rented a car, prompting authorities to issue an alert for the vehicle in Texas. The two were arrested Sunday near Mexico. They remain jailed in Texas and await extradition March 20 to Baltimore.

Husband to be tried for wife’s murder in so-called ‘panhandler killing’

The deadly attack on Jacquelyn Smith shocked people around the country when her husband announced, tearfully, that she had been stabbed by a panhandler during an act of charity. Celebrity Oprah Winfrey wrote online that she would think twice before giving to a panhandler again. Behind the scenes, however, detectives were growing increasingly suspicious of the husband’s story. They arrested Keith Smith and his grown daughter Valeria three months later and charged them with murder. The pair had made off for Mexico; they were nabbed 20 miles from the border.

In September, Valeria Smith pleaded guilty to acting as an accessory after the murder.

Keith Smith is scheduled to stand trial April 20.

No mention of his occupation at the time of the murder. He was freaking out because the gravy train was coming to a halt. His wife was probably the sole earner. There's a term for this - "muling." Look it up, ladies. And be very careful on the dating scene - avoid gold-digger men with criminal pasts.

Some of the biggest murder trials in Maryland were put on hold. Among them, the trial of Keith Smith, the Aberdeen man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death, blamed her killing on a Baltimore panhandler and made a run for the Mexican border. He’s scheduled for trial in December.
