The one glove is puzzling. Just can’t see him doing all this to himself. There’s a lot of blunt force trauma.
In one word, fingerprints. If he was holding the knife and didn't want to get his prints on it. The various types of cuts are consistent with the different tools on a Swiss Army knife.

Blunt force trama to face...
Liquid content in stomach is caffeine and acetone..
Genital trauma...
Hmmm...confusing for sure
The trauma to the face could have been from the fall or he could have run into something deliberately. Same with the genitals.

He bought some drinks in KoP, so that can explain the caffeine. Acetone can be used in food processing.

I can't find anything that would suggest he was bound...
Also, the cuts on his hands were not thought to be defensive wounds, correct?

The apparent presence of acetone is somewhat odd in my opinion. I wonder if it is quantified or an amount indicated. Was it found both internally and externally? Or only ingested? None found dermally? (I have not tried to read any reports on this in this case.) A most common use of acetone is as a component in nail polish remover. Lacquer thinner is another material that could contain it. MOO

Nothing and the hand wounds were superficial. IMO, if JPL put up a fight, they would be much deeper. No bruising on the knuckles where he might have punched someone.

Stomach content is the only one mentioned.

Looking at his route, I'm wondering where he could have gotten acetone (except as an additive).

Yes, and perhaps a quantitative measure will be given somewhere. And a toxicologist might then be able to give an indication if the level present was of significance. And whether ingestion or inhalation, or even dermal was a likely a route administered.

My initial thought before reading further into this, and of the appearance of acetone…… was of another chemical often seen in cases, chloroform. And while not noted in this case to my knowledge, that is often used to render someone unconscious. Was wondering if possibly something similar here with the acetone? But pure speculation only at this point IMO. MOO

Could it have been an over the counter stimulant?

Maybe purchased at the gas station he went to? Are they sure he just pumped gas and didn't go inside?

Also, didnt he withdraw 200 dollars from the Delaware ATM machine? It was stated no wallet was found..so how did he go to the ATM machine and take out money without his bank card?
Also, no credit card was found, so how did he purchase gas? ...If he used the money from the ATM, he would have had to go inside the gas station to pay for it.

The money was scattered in the car. JPL's wallet was on the body, but may have been in the car or outside of it.

He used that ATM card at KoP and bought two drinks there; they were probably caffeinated. Could they account for the acetone?

The only thing in the report that points away from self inflicted are the scuff marks on the tops of the shoes. That is it, and that could have happened as JPL lay dying in the ditch.

Sure would like to see more reports on this case. Was it proven it was his knife? Did I read right that there was some damage to his rectum area ?
Was reading acetone in forensic is often associated with the absence of food in the stomach.
This report sounds like the car was by the creek, I thought it was in the water. I understand why it’s thought the wounds were self inflicted, but I don’t buy it. He wouldn’t be restrained if he was driving and self defense wounds would be limited. What a strange case all the way around !

I do not know anything about the details of the knife found, except that it was a pen knife and if was found in the stream. The two front wheels of the car were over the embankment which was about a 3-4 foot drop.

The phone number appears to be for a public defender.

According to the report, the glove on the left hand covers up the wound (p. 10). The glove may have been put on after the wounding occurred.

I just can’t help but think there is more to this. Seems early on there was some shady FBI stuff.
If only we could see all the police reports and FBI reports.

I would love to see the crime scene reports and the toxicology report, but the physical evidence is not there. If murdered, JPL basically just laid there and took it

From what I read, no wallet was found....this is incorrect? Did LE find a bank card used at the ATM?
Also, if he went inside to purchase drinks, I find it hard to believe whoever was holding him captive would allow him to do so...or, why not ask the store clerk for help (?)
Happy Thanksgiving everyone..

The other phone number is at least currently the number for the cable provider. However, it does not, at least currently, cover Elkridge. They also do security services (alarms). The other pamphlet was for a mortgage company, Ditech.
