The mayor doesn't have a curfew **tonight** for adults to be off the streets at 10pm. It starts tomorrow night!!! What a mistake, IMO.

Terrible sign of our civilization......

I just have no words. Heartbreaking and disturbing to watch this unfold.

Holy Cow.
Mayor just mentioned Al Sharpton welcomed to induce peace.
Tell me I heard that incorrectly.

Do any of the persons 'in charge' have a clue?? I think not.

Then how about "rioters" "miscreants" or "criminals"? The reason that other word is not allowed is because it is typically used to define criminals of a certain skin tone.

We have plenty of words to describe the actions here. We needn't use race-specific ones. Yes, I know the word was not originally used as such but contemporary usage is, indeed racist and I applaud WS for disallowing it.

BBM

In a politically incorrect world, the word t.h.u.g might be interpreted to refer to a person of a particular "skin tone".

I strongly disagree.

IMO, a t.h.u.g. is anyone who engages in criminal activity, regardless of ethnicity. I don't believe it needs to be a censored word.

The Mayor of Baltimore (who is an AA female) used the term several times tonight in her press conference. I seriously doubt she would have used the term if it inferred a racial slur.

I hardly think the mayor and governor of MD is going to use a racist word.

I personally think it makes NO sense that we can't use it.

I'm thinking that may be because the other officers and NG won't be there by 10 and because it would be dangerous for BPD to try to enforce that.

This is just so sad, but honestly, I am not surprised. When people feel wronged and threatened, they often act out in over-the-top ways. In this case it is sheer reactive, criminal behaviour.

I would say I am more surprised at Charleston for their NON-riotous behaviour. Surprised, but impressed at their prudence. Violence will never make the point that violence is wrong.

The Gov just used the word th_g, and so did the newscaster.
