Here's what bugs me lately. The peaceful protests from a few days ago got little to no coverage, but the violence got ALL the headlines.

The media is only showing us the violence, why? I feel it's deeper than just "violence gets attention". I think the media is choosing what America gets to see happening, creating an image of POC that isn't truth. JMHO.

Yep.

On one hand, the media shines a light. It's not good to let things happen without scrutiny and attention.

On the other hand, I think the media does play a big role in perception. Good photographers/videographers will select images that have impact, but ones that aren't necessarily giving an accurate picture.

I'd rather have media there than not be there....but I think there is a feeding frenzy that is very ugly and adds to the problem rather than simply documents it.

Police did not throw rocks, it was a very poorly written statement meaning to say that police reacted to the rock throwing.

I saw one on video throw a rock. One officer threw a rock back at the person who threw it at him.

Spray from a firehouse can cover a larger area at once. Katy is right, it would be a civil rights violation but at this point I don't care. It may just save some of baltimore, and lives.
Exactly! They are violating so many others' civil rights at the moment in a much more extreme and detrimental way. I feel a strong, stream of water in their faces isn't a huge issue.

She did say it. If she meant something else, it certainly didn't come through.
They did a side by side of her statements last night on the news ,I doubt we see that again.

Do you really believe that any mayor would say "We are going to give people space to destroy our city". Why would any mayor say such a thing. It defies logic.

I can see that she was stating that in giving them space to protest she was also giving them room to destroy. But she clearly erred on the wrong side of this balance entirely.

I think the whole First Amendment thing doesn't give you the right to march down freakn streets and disrupt traffic and other people's lives just so you can be seen. There is no surer way to get me pissed off at your cause du jour than to disrupt my life so I have to hear you. I dont care what you are marching for just get out of the damn road so I can get home. Its a ROAD, not a stage. Get a permit if that's what you are going to do, but nope they rarely do.

I completely agree. If any city needed a riot for change it is Baltimore. As MLK said

However people like Al Sharpton are not the right leaders for this riot and Baltimore rioters would do well to kick them out of their fight.

Baltimore Mayor: ‘I Never Said… That We Are Giving People Space To Destroy Our City’
April 28, 2015 6:42 AM

WASHINGTON — After Baltimore’s first round of rowdy protests on Saturday, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake came under fire for saying that the city gave people “who wished to destroy” space to do so.
“I worked with the police and instructed them to do everything that they could to make sure that the protesters were able to exercise their right to free speech,” Rawlings-Blake said to the media Saturday evening.
“It’s a very delicate balancing act because while we tried to make sure that they were protected from the cars and the other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.”

Thank you. This shows she is a liar.

She said what she said. It's on video. If she was trying to say something else, she failed to get her message across.

I saw it too, though it did look like an isolated incident by one person in the midst of what I imagine was a very frustrating and infuriating moment.

They are funding themselves - human trafficking (slavery), stolen oil, drugs and who knows what else.
Do you know anything of the history of the Muslim Brotherhood?

I don't buy that they began by funding themselves.
I am familiar with the Muslim Brotherhood. Are you saying they are one in the same?

Just because she is a mayor doesn't mean she is competent or smart.

Besides, she is pretty much LETTING them destroy the city.....

The media is showing what the people are watching. The more viewers, the more money a station can ask for advertising slots. If people weren't watching, there would be no story.

Jumping in to comment...I don't know who funded what or who instigated what in Baltimore. I think it's multiple things coming together.

BUT THE WAY TO RESIST is to clean up. Look at where ISIS is - the places are destroyed and they stay destroyed. Living with that destruction kills the spirit of the people. Resist that. Clean up. If a mess happens again, clean it up.

More is needed than that, but the clean up is essential in resistance.

I don't buy that. Media can most certainly set higher standards for themselves.

NYC Mayor DeBlasio said some real stupid things also.
