24 hour shifts are usually broken up as follows
7:30am-3:30pm
3:30pm-11:30pm
11:30pm-7:30am
They may be a half hour off either side (7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am or 8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, 12am-8am) but most are on the 7:30, 3:30 and 11:30 start times.
Those who I knew who worked 3rd shift always started late on a Sunday night into Monday morning for their first work day of the week. With Christmas falling on Saturday let's assume the Christmas holiday for MJ would have been to have that Sunday night into Mon am off and his first day of work that week (if he worked a full scheduled week) would have been to go to work late Monday night into Tuesday am. So I think it is fair to say his first day of work the week PB went missing was the prior Monday evening into the morning of the day PB went missing.
I'm only thinking of rescheduling the actual Christmas day holiday when it falls on a weekend because most employers will do that and not all employers offer a full day off for Christmas eve.
It has not been said what type of overnight work MJ does. (that I can recall)

ETA: I should add the above is based on a 5 day M-F work week and if the plant or company ran 7 days a week that would be different starting and ending days of the week for days off, but shift times usually run the same hours as posted above.
