Yesterday, WCNC reported that WBAL radio reported the COD was asphyxiation.

However, I couldn't find any reference at all in print.

Could be hearsay, could be truth.

I found this - but it's still from WCNC, not from WBAL or anywhere else:

Johnson was arrested at his home about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. He is charged with first-degree murder. According to WBAL radio in Baltimore, the cause of death is asphyxiation.

NEW DETAILS AND MICHAEL JOHNSON WAS DENIED BAIL:

Prosecutors alleged Friday that the 28-year-old man charged with murdering Phylicia Barnes killed her in her sister's Northwest Baltimore apartment, then moved her body using a 35-gallon plastic tub.

Michael Maurice Johnson, the ex-boyfriend of Phylicia's older half-sister, had exchanged 500 text messages with Phylicia in the months prior to her death, said Assistant State's Attorney Lisa Goldberg during a bail review hearing. Barnes had told a relative that Johnson made her feel uncomfortable, Goldberg said.

Goldberg said Johnson was captured on videotape buying the tub at a Walmart, and that a woman of Phylicia's size could

hypothetically fit in a tub that size. A neighbor told authorities they saw Johnson one day struggling to move the tub down a flight of stairs. The tub has not been recovered, Goldberg said.

Goldberg also said that in emails and text messages last October Johnson had talked about fleeing the country in the event he was charged.

Circuit Court Judge John Addison Howard ordered Johnson held without bail, saying he was concerned about the conversations involving him fleeing the country.

One of Johnson's attorneys, Brandon Mead, said that his client being charged on such a thin case is "a travesty." Mead said the case was entirely circumstantial and that Johnson has cooperated in every stage with investigators.

Johnson, the last known person to see 16-year-old Phylicia alive, has denied any involvement in the killing.

Phylicia disappeared from her sister's apartment on Dec. 28, 2010, and her nude body was found months later floating in the Susquehanna River in Harford County. By filing the murder charges against Johnson in Baltimore, authorities are indicating that Phylicia was killed in the city and her body was moved.

On Thursday, city police added her death to the 2012 list of homicides, according to a spokesman. The location of the homicide is listed as the 6500 block of Eberle Drive, the Northwest Baltimore apartment complex where she was last seen.

I had forgotten all about that statement katydid23. When that first came up, I was like she fell asleep on top of him? Members explained that saying someone fell asleep on me was slang for just saying they fell asleep and were a no show kind of thing, due to falling asleep.

I'm on the fence as to whether I think that is something him made up, or a bit of truth and perhaps the time the crime occured.

Yes, I understand the slang term. It is kind of like saying the person ' is dissing you' because they went to sleep instead of paying attention to you. So either way, it is very telling. Imo,he felt rejected by her.

500 texts and emails?!? Whoa. Exchange or inundate her? I mean, I wonder if she reciprocated. I think he planned this. And I hope and pray to God that there was no snuff film.

.....................

A strange twist in the case also arose Friday in the form of two attorneys representing Johnson. For at least the past two years, Johnson has been represented by attorney Russell Neverdon, who remains the attorney of record for Johnson. Margarete Meade and her son, Brandon, have since been hired as counsel.

Meanwhile, the defendant's father hired defense attorney Catherine Flynn, who is also representing the former lead detective in the Barnes case, Daniel Nicholson. The detective was suspended this week on allegations he improperly used his badge in a separate matter involving his daughter. Neverdon said he considers the hiring of Flynn a conflict of interest.

Court testimony shed new light on the relationship between Johnson and Phylicia Barnes, revealing that they traded as many as 500 messages the summer before she disappeared. Prosecutors said Phylicia Barnes talked with one of her sisters, complaining 10 days before her disappearance that she was uncomfortable with Johnson and that she didn't like the way he looked at her.

The prosecutor read correspondence between Johnson, his younger brother and his new girlfriend, saying:
"Maybe I should give my two-weeks notice and roll out, maybe leave this country, go to Brazil. The way things are going, everything will hit the fan and I don't think I know how to deal with it. The way things are going, I should go to Brazil."

Justice for Phylicia has finally begun!!! Watch the dominoes fall. May each and ever last person who assisted, kept the secret, or was in any way involved in the events that lead to the murder of Phylicia be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Then may they be persecuted in hellfire in the jurisdiction of the hereafter.

Im very tuned into JS and her gut feelings, being at ill ease with the 1/2 sibling.
This should be just the beginning.

COMPLETE Justice for PB!
May she rest in eternal peace-sooo sorry for the Sallis-Mustafa family's loss.

No wonder MJ was taking his time moving out, if he knew Phylicia was coming to visit...

I'm sickened to read about the 500 text and email exchanges, in a 2-3 mo period, iirc. Clearly trouble existed long before Phylicia got on a plane and flew to B'more for the holidays. How did everyone miss this obsession MJ had for PB long before she arrived in B'more for the holidays?

Neverdon's excuses for MJ - that he was going to flee to Brazil because he wasn't ready to be a dad? GMAB. There are a lot of deadbeat parents in this country. They go underground, they don't flee to another country. That's generally reserved for international parental abduction cases. Keep showing us your best Neverdon! Please, because it will mean justice for Phylicia! :furious:

Back in December, Baltimore Sun reported that MJ's attorney Neverdon was aware of these photos.

Friday evening, one of our local Baltimore radio stations, 92Q reported that MJ purchased the 35 gallon tub/tote at Walmart after Phylicia was murdered. Not sure where they got this detailed timeframe. Lil GJ's twitter messages between12 noon and 1pm indicated that he was in line at Walmart. Was he with MJ when MJ was caught on tape? He could have been standing in another line. Didn't his cell phone stop working the same time that MJ and Phylicia's phones that working?

MSM has stated the last contact with Phylicia was made at 12:23pm. Reportedly a neighbor witnessed MJ trying to move a 35 gallon container at about 1pm. Doesn't give MJ much time to go to Walmart and back between 12:23 and 1pm. Especially if he knew KB would be stopping by.

How close is the nearest Walmart to the apartment?

 already and the jury will be too. I really hope and pray they have a airtight case to convict Phylicia's murderer. This case is highly circumstancial. They need to drill Mj into confessing the truth as to what really went on. He may cut a deal and this case will never go to trial :(

It could be just a coincident that both MJ and his brother went to Walmart thar afternoon. Did LE take this into concideration? Wish we knew the exact time of death. MJ could have typed Phylicia's last text message unless LE knows that her time of death was after 12:23pm.

I wonder if the neighbor was giving an approximate time of 1:00pm. Could it have been between 1:00 and 1:30? It only takes about 20 minutes to get to Walmart from the apartment using back roads. He could have been back around 1:20pm.

A long time in coming imo. Such a beautiful girl, not that looks matter, and such a terrible case. Her loved ones are in my prayers. Cubby kudos for you staying on this, I admire your passion and dedication to Phylicia and her Mom and loved ones. May Phylicia rest in peace. :(

Watched the interview with her Mom Janice. So very sad :( She calls her Simone as we knew, just wondering if we should use Simone, or Phylicia, when we post. Sorry just nags at me and want to be respectful but not too familiar and be seen as rude when we aren't family. JMO
