Pretrial will begin Monday in the high-profile case against Victor Martinez-Hernandez, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, who is accused of attacking, raping, and murdering Rachel Morin, a Harford County mother of five, on Aug. 5, 2023.
The murder trial could get underway by the end of the week following jury selection.
“The DNA collected at the scene is certainly going to be one of the biggest pieces of evidence,” Randolph Rice, attorney and spokesperson for Morin’s family, said Sunday on “NewsNation Prime.” “There’s copious amounts of DNA at the scene that’s going to be the key, sort of the linchpin of this case.”
Morin’s family is “nervous and anxious” as the trial gets underway, according to Rice. He said Morin’s mother, Patty, has expressed feeling “helpless” throughout the ordeal.
“When Rachel was allegedly murdered by this suspect, she felt helpless that she wasn’t there to help her,” Rice said. “She has the same feelings this week, but she is confident that the prosecutors in this case are prepared to present the evidence to the jury.”

After multiple delays and a denied change of venue request, the trial will kick off with jury selection on Monday, with opening statements expected on Friday.
According to McMahon, the first witnesses expected to testify are Morin’s then-boyfriend, Richard Tobin, and her two oldest daughters, ages 19 and 14. The last people to speak to Morin before she disappeared.
“I see this as an opportunity to stand up for Rachel, defend her, stand up for themselves,” he said, “So for them, I feel that it's extremely healing to be part of the process.”
