Maryland rampage suspect pleads guilty in murders of strangers

A career law enforcement officer accused of killing his wife and two strangers during a shooting rampage last year in suburban Maryland pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder Tuesday.

Eulalio Tordil, 63, also pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted first-degree murder and faces up to four life sentences, with no chance of parole, at his sentencing set for July 7. He remains charged with killing his wife — in a parking lot in front of his wife’s screaming daughter — a case that authorities are expected to take up later.

The 80-minute, emotional hearing revealed new details about the high-profile case that terrorized residents in Montgomery and neighboring Prince George’s County and forced schools and office buildings to go on lockdown. Police found 80 rounds of ammunition in Tordil’s car after his arrest, McCarthy said in court, where he also played a video-recording of Tordil being questioned by a detective.

The devastation of the crimes could be seen in court on the faces of family members of the victims. In the front row, the widow of Malcom “Mike” Winffel, who was shot dead, sat next to the daughter of Claudina Molina, who also was killed.

Winffel, 45, came to the aid of a woman in a mall parking lot whose SUV Tordil tried to steal. Molina, 65, was killed as Tordil later tried to steal her SUV. She had gone to the store to buy a carton of milk.

Tordil pleaded guilty in their deaths.

Md. man convicted in deadly rampage pleads guilty in wife’s killing

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/md-man-convicted-in-deadly-rampage-pleads-guilty-in-wifes-killing/2017/06/26/0ad7c6f6-0926-4311-8f5b-95884560602c_story.html?utm_term=.b0351b17c842

The plea that Eulalio Tordil, 63, entered in Prince George's County Circuit Court comes two months after the former federal protective service officer was convicted in the fatal shootings of two strangers as he attempted to steal vehicles in neighboring Montgomery County while he was on the run.

He faces a maximum of life without parole for the death of his wife and is scheduled to be sentenced in Prince George’s on Sept. 6.

Tordil on Monday also pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of a good Samaritan who tried to intervene outside the high school.

Tordil faces up to four life sentences without the possibility of parole in Montgomery County for the killings of Winffel and Molina. He is scheduled to be sentenced in those cases July 7.

Former federal officer gets four life prison terms for Md. shooting rampage

https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/former-federal-officer-who-went-on-md-shooting-rampage-to-be-sentenced/2017/07/06/02532b3e-6269-11e7-a4f7-af34fc1d9d39_story.html?utm_term=.787b8a6e4a39

Eulalio Tordil was described as a calculated, coldblooded and cowardly “serial killer” at a court hearing Friday before he received four back-to-back life sentences in a murderous Maryland shooting rampage in 2016 that started with the slaying of his wife in a high school parking lot and ended a day later with the deaths of two strangers as he fled police.

“There was absolutely no reason for him to do what he did other than cowardice and selfishness,” Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Sharon V. Burrell said before sentencing Tordil in the deaths of the strangers. “Life got too tough for him so he decided to solve his problems by killing people.”

Tordil, 64, will be imprisoned without the chance of parole.

2 life sentences for Md. man who killed estranged wife, wounded good Samaritan

Eulalio Tordil, a Federal Protective Service officer who pleaded guilty to murdering his estranged wife and wounding a good Samaritan, has been sentenced to two life sentences in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Tordil’s two life sentences in Prince George’s County will run consecutively to the four life sentences in Montgomery County.

“You should not see or breathe a free bit of air for the rest of your life,” Prince George’s County Judge Leo Green Jr. said before sentencing Tordil. “It’s overwhelming the reasons to show no mercy.”

A man who had arrived at the high school to watch his son’s baseball game was shot in the arm when he ran to help Gladys Tordil, Cordero said. The man remains haunted by violence, and his son has not played baseball since that “horrific” day, Cordero said.

Gladys Tordil’s children spoke in court, sobbing as they talked about how much they miss their mother. They were seniors who were one week away from graduating when their mother was killed.

The girls also admonished Tordil, who they said was abusive and created a “house that was toxic.”
