Often in these cases, indicators of suicide aren't released to the public. That goes for everything from despondent text messages to outright suicide notes. It generally comes out either after the person has been missing for awhile or once the body is recovered. I think that may be the case in this situation. JMO.

I hope not, but in the back of my mind, it seems like it could be a possibility. However, it is very mysterious.

The car being on the freeway is the big thing that doesn't seem like a suicide, to me. I really think something else happened.

Ok, so after reading this comment, I think the police HAVE to have information regarding a suicide if they're planning on searching on a smaller scale in the next few days. Thoughts?

Search continues for missing Richmond woman

I am still not totally convinced on suicide. To me, the comment by Falmouth police means that they have used a large amount of resources and searched expansively for several days in a row, and they may not be able to keep up the search efforts on that large of scale. Just my opinion in how I interpreted the quote.

I think this will end up a suicide case.

If it was an abduction, someone would have seen something.

Yep. Kudos to the search & recovery guys but I'm not getting the impression there's been any serious investigative work. She is missing, after all, and we're told nobody knows what happened to her so all possibilities should be explored. I don't think that's happening and still suspect foul play.

Sounds like LE knows what happened. They're obviously searching the water, and investing a lot of resources in this regard.

Sunday, Falmouth Police said, short of any new information, they will continue to search these areas on a smaller scale the next few days.

"We continue to work closely with the Maine Marine Patrol, Game Wardens, State Police, Dive team and Richmond PD to go over information and evaluate any course we take moving ahead," Lt. Frank Soule with Falmouth Police said. "Boats and aircraft will be routinely checking the immediate area for the foreseeable future."

Ok, I think any confusion is in the wording. There is more than 1 exit FOR/TOWARDS Falmouth (one of those exits being IN Portland), but only 1 exit IN Falmouth.

“A review of public documents shows Heinig has had suicidal thoughts and has undergone court-ordered counseling for post traumatic stress and substance abuse treatment following protection from abuse order requested by the father of her younger child. That came six months after Heinig was taken by Richmond police to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick in December 2017 for evaluation after she threatened to throw herself off a bridge.”
