FALMOUTH — Police on Monday said human skeletal remains were found off Route 100 Sunday morning, April 8, by a couple walking in the woods.“We still don’t know if this is a man or a woman, how old they are, or how long the remains have been there,” Stephen McCausland, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Monday afternoon.
McCausland said the Office of the Maine State Medical Examiner is conducting an examination of the bones and there’s no timetable for when the work will be completed.
But he also said the remains don’t appear to be related to any open or cold homicide cases.
“Nothing stood out to indicate this was related to any unsolved (murder),” McCausland said, adding that the remains were also not found in what might have been a historic or old family burying ground.
McCausland said the bones were visible and that’s why the couple called 911. Falmouth police then called in the Maine State Police for assistance, he said.
McCausland would not provide any details about where the remains were found, but did say “they were fairly close to the Portland city line.”

I thought of Cathy immediately, too, but what are the chances she'd be in that spot, undiscovered, all this time?
The remains were found close to the Portland town line, but that's the closest investigators would come to stating where.

Yeah, I agree. It's hard to guess without knowing the location (other than "heavily wooded area" near HWY 100) and whether the remains were buried, how old they are etc. I hope whoever has been found will be identified quickly and bring closure to a hurting family.

I think in one of the articles I posted, they stated they were above ground, so it doesn't sound like they were buried.
I hope whoever is found is identified quickly, too.

Cathy was wearing braces, could they have survived the elements since 1971?

We don't have many missing in Maine. Those I have found are either in the process of being ID'd or circumstances don't fit. Early in my search though.

Only about 40 miles but I believe he was on foot so circumstances/distance not great. I'm also not sure that the time frame works. We have had strange Winter weather this year but I don't think enough time for something to skeletonize.

Just starting to search. Hoping to find something.

Makes me think about Jeremy Alex. He's missing from Northport,ME and Falmouth is 1hr 45 min away but I'm not seeing many other males missing that are closer to Falmouth

There are 8 missing adult males listed for Cumberland County and 7 for York County, and a handful more from counties around Cumberland County, where the remains were found.
