The biggest roadblock on getting abused children the safety and justice that they deserve is the simple fact that reporting entities are not included in the case as it progresses. In one case that I reported, repeated phone calls of worry resulted in being told, this is confidential and you are basically harassing busy people. That is the LOGJAM. The initial worried people are instantly locked out and left in the dark while still caring for a child. That is WRONG on so many levels. Progress or NONPROGRESS should have a deliverable timeframe report to the initial callers. I am sick to death of hearing excuses. I take my job home or do not leave my job until my job is done and I forfeit my own time without pay when I think it is a matter of life or death.

I agree. There are ways of keeping mandatory reporters in the loop without giving away details, even if it's only to say it's still being investigated. The disconnect in communication between agencies, too, is a roadblock, esp. when the child's family moves a lot. In Maine, there's little accountability and follow up on the part of our health and human services. That's one of the reason that study was done, which was a long time in coming and needed ages ago.
There are few things in life I despise, and Maine's DHHS is at the top of my list.

State prosecutors now are shifting focus to the murder trial of Carrillo’s estranged wife, 34-year-old Sharon Carrillo. Her trial is scheduled to take place in December at the Waldo Judicial Center in Belfast.

“We have begun the process of holding [them] accountable for Marissa’s death,” Assistant Attorney General Leane Zainea said Wednesday, following Carrillo’s sentencing.

Attorneys address details regarding evidence in Sharon Carrillo case

posted 9/24/19

BELFAST, Maine (WABI) - Lawyers representing the mother of 10-year-old Marissa Kennedy met with a judge behind closed doors at the Waldo County Courthouse in Belfast Tuesday.
The defense team for Sharon Carrillo had asked for access to documents that the lawyer for Julio Carrillo said proved Sharon's involvement in the beating of the child.
[......]
Attorney Chris MacLean says the judge did grant them and prosecutors access to documents from the department of health and human services regarding the case.

MacLean says he also scheduled more trial time extending it from one week to two.

He says they have a list of 60 possible witnesses to call on when Sharon's trial gets underway in December.
