Megan seems, outwardly anyway, to be a very happy woman. An attractive woman with attractive kids. What on earth went wrong?

Jeez, the fund site says that she was a combat marine and according to her FB it looks like being on the front lines during Covid really took its toll on her. A severe cardiac event and subsequent ICU stay is associated with onset of depression (up to 1 in 3 survivors) and anxiety, which has recently become a pretty well-known phenomenon. Age 39 can coincide with symptoms of perimenopause which can bring on mental health issues as well. This poor family. It's impossible to comprehend.

I know social media is not "real" but her persona on facebook and this alleged murder feel so incongruent. Like usually there's some kind of red flag or something. She seems like a kind and peaceful person. MOO.

Kind and peaceful persons usually don't murder their children, if this was in fact a murder. Could this possibly be a self-defense situation? Dollars to doughnuts illegal drugs were involved, IMO.

Meanwhile, McDonald, is being held without bail at the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta. Another hearing is scheduled for February 3.

??? I find the sympathy for this mother who apparently murdered her son astounding. She stabbed and strangled him to death--that's not love in my universe! Poor boy--betrayed and murdered by his own mother. She is right where she belongs--in jail, where she can not hurt anyone else. JMO

Family members attended the court hearing Friday, but left the courtroom immediately and said they did not want to talk to the media.

I am going to guess MH issue behind this one. She turned herself in at police station after. How difficult for the family. There are no winners in cases such as these, even is she is convicted. Just a tragic things all round MOO

There are some similarities to Lindsey Clancy’s case and this one. Both nurses who killed their child/children. We haven’t heard anything about Megan’s history yet, but I suspect there will be more similarities there as well.

We have zero details on what kind of mental state Megan was in when she arrived at the police department to report herself, or what she told them. But in the booking photo, it appears she cut off all her hair. There were still longer pieces that she missed. In the court photo from yesterday. Her head was cleanly shaven.

This will likely turn out to be a psychotic event. Speaking for myself, I don’t feel it’s wrong to have a degree of compassion for someone who committed such a horrific crime. Obviously I mourn the loss of the victim and demand justice for them in the courtroom. But I’ll wait for more details on how Megan went from a successful nurse and seemingly loving parent to murdering her son. We know she had a serious health event last year, won’t be surprised to learn it played a role.

There is an older sibling, but she just started college in the fall and wasn’t in the home. I can’t imagine how much she is suffering right now too.

Lindsey Clancy from MA. I think her children’s murders were about 3 yrs ago. There’s a thread here on it. Horribly sad.
