One of the first albums I ever bought was Bat Out of Hell when I was 12 or 13. Had to hide it from my mom because of the word “hell.”

"Our hearts are broken," a statement posted to the star's official Facebook page said early Friday. The celebrated singer and actor died with his wife, Deborah, at his side.

Meat Loaf, the singer and actor whose debut album "Bat Out of Hell" in 1977 became one of the best-selling of all time, has died at the age of 74.

Born Marvin Lee Aday, the rock musician's career spanned six decades across the music and film industries. He was beloved by fans and soared to unlikely rock stardom with theatrical, dark-hearted anthems and an iconic long-haired look...

Oh my gosh, I am just totally surprised and devastated. He was one of the best rock and rollers of all time. I have great memories (of which there are few of my ex-husband) of my ex-husband and I singing"Paradise" really loud while riding his chopper out in the country. I loved Meatloaf. He will be playing with all of our beloved rock stars who went to heaven before him! What a loss to our world. He could always make me smile. You will be greatly missed by many. RIP Meatloaf. Moo. No Loafing Around Coach Meat

His managerial career began in Stamford, Conn., in 1981, when he coached one team and sponsored another in the same Little League division. The latter team went by the sponsor's legal name, Meat Loaf, which was also the name of his band. Coach Meat also made history by drafting the first girl to a Stamford Little League team. "And to make a point," he says, "I drafted her first."

Next he coached girls' Pony League softball in nearby Westport, Conn., and in 1990, after the family had moved to Redding, 10 miles north, he volunteered to coach first base for Pearl's freshman team at Joel Barlow. When the squad needed a head coach for the '91 season, Meat Loaf signed on. Practices and games had to be shoehorned between Meat Loaf's musical engagements, but the team had a coach.

RIP to a legend & the kindest guy around. When my high school faced budget cuts and our softball team had no coach, Meat Loaf rearranged his schedule to coach us—he declined the stipend, offered to do a benefit concert...and even drove me home some days

Deadspin deleted my photo but here's one from our softball banquet, the Sports Illustrated article, & local coverage. He was working on Bat Out of Hell II then, and we were one of the first to hear "I'd Do Anything for Love" (which he sang during a bus ride home from a game).

So life-affirming to read all your tributes to Meat Loaf. Just recently had the joy of watching his 1980 movie Roadie for the first time.

He was one stubborn non-conformist, to the end. But I'll always love him.

I just heard. Jax, ooooh gurrrl, you have no idea! I saw him in a private appearance with some heavy rollers in the ‘90’s back when I was young and beautiful. Oh, the memories are making me tremble with excitement. I can feel my body tingling as I type…

I remember every little thing
As if it happened only yesterday
Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight
And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night
And now our bodies are oh so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
C'mon! Hold on tight!
C'mon! Hold on tight!
