Media coverage of Anthony trial: 500-plus seek credentials

The HinkyMeter applied as well.

That's good at least one of the blogs that actually knows all the ins and outs of the case will be there. Some of those others... not so much.

I found the Dead Lawyer Blog on Blogger... are we allowed to link blogs? :waitasec:

...and only a couple of dozen seats for the general public. :(

Hmmmmm ... I hope and pray the media coverage that develops into daily analysis and spin does not get in the way of a 'fair trial', a conviction and, justice for Caylee.

Caylee has waited patiently for justice yet I am sure the Defense would like nothing better than a rogue Juror or some technical mishap ... a final twist in the journey towards justice or another bite of the apple.

It is time for justice, for Caylee to rest in peace and ... for the Perp to pay for the crime.

If there is 500 applications for credentials, is the local news, i.e., WFTV whose been covering this since day one, going to get kicked out in the cold so other reporters can sit in or is WFTV going to get a sorta permanent seat? I'd like to see Bill Sheaffer be able to be there too.

My :twocents: here:

The County of Orange should have one (1) media tent or room within a distance far from the entrance door to the court house. This media area should be the ONLY area permitted for interviews. Meaning all parties who want to be interviewed MUST go to this media area. All media reporting is to be done from this media area and the media views the same feeds the rest of us do.

ONLY the public should be allowed in the court room as they are the only ones paying for this trial.

Enough said.

Omachka, I don't think that is one of the blogs we can link to. Am investigating and will get back to you ASAP! Thanks for asking first, too. :blowkiss:

BBM

Not ALL blogs, no. Especially if it is not accurate or perpetuates rumors. A few are blocked and will appear as a string of ****** in the link. HOWEVER, just because it doesn't appear as a blocked link does not mean it is approved site. It is impossible to keep up with all the unreliable blogs, so let's be careful linking unless we know for sure they contain legit and relevant information to the discussion.

They are all downtown.
Cheney Mason's office is also on North Orange Ave as is Brad Conway's.
Mark NeJame is on South Orange Ave just a few short blocks away.

I know the area, I just think it's incredible they're all within a mile of each other on the same street. A law school (which just blows my mind it's so ironic), a local news station that shows local news 24 hours a day, and some of the attorney's involved.

As another poster says, You can't make this stuff up!

I wonder if there are a lot of media outlets looking to cover the trial who didn't cover the events from July 2008-April 2011, or at least not as extensively as NG? Does anyone who followed the Peterson trial remember if there was a big increase in media when Scott went to trial? Also, does 500 media representatives mean 500 separate media outlets or does each media outlet have multiple media representatives, like producers, reporters, cameramen, etc who would need credentials to be in the courtroom?

Also, is the trial going to be shown live on TV?

BBM -- Yes, TruTV will be showing it live -- and several news stations will have live streaming online.

CNN
CNN Shift: Scot Safon, From Marketing the News to Producing It

Scot Safon brought drama to TNT and Politics to CNN. His branding campaigns, including TNT’s We know Drama and the newschannel’s CNN=Politics are felt on the air and in the air at Turner.

Interview with Safon regarding using social media as a part of reporting. Hmmmmmmmm

Interesting that in the above linked interview that Safron states that CNN has an agreement with Facebook AND YouTube.

It's interesting though 'cause even though 500 is a huge number to ask for credentials; I feel like our sources for information about this case are just HLN/CNN, TruTV and local Florida media. Maybe a lot of the media people who asked for credentials are just planning on covering the verdict and not every day of the trial? I don't remember OJ's trial since I was too young, but I believe the reason that case had so much media coverage was because everyday of the trial (and it lasted for over a year; pretty sure), was huge national news. But I don't think this trial will be anywhere near the level of OJ; maybe more on the level of the Danielle Van Dam trial where it is huge news on a local level, and on certain channels like CourtTV/TruTV, but something that you could avoid (if you lived outside of the metro area) pretty easily if you chose to. I don't really get when people start calling this trial "the trial of the century" Maybe in Orlando or even the entire state of Florida, but I don't think so on a national level. Heck, I can just type "OJ" and you all know what I'm talking about, but if I said "Casey" to most people, I don't know how many would immediately think of this case and the impending trial.

I've read that the number seems high, because everyone ie: cameramen, support people etc.. all have to have credentials....

Yes, I read an old article about the Peterson trial and it said that some local TV channels got credentials for 15-20 people while some magazines got credentials for just 1-2 people. 500 media credentials doesn't equal 500 media outlets. It would be interesting to see the full list of media outlets looking for credentials. The article about it said that AC 360 asked for credentials but he hasn't covered this case since December 2008 when Caylee's body was found, so is he now going to start doing everyday coverage of the trial or just when the verdict comes in?

Yeah, the big "stars" are chomping at the bit. Anderson Cooper, Nancy Grace....wonder if Geraldo will be there? Shep Smith?

JMO but none of them except NG and KB should be able to sit in the courtroom, simply because most jumped ship a few months after Caylee's remains had been found. Few have stuck with the story and the search for Justice for Caylee.

Great, 500 media, most of which who haven't really followed this case as closely as we have, and so therefore will be erroneously reporting the whole time of the trial. Oh boy are we in for it. I say we buy a supply of pepto and whiskey for everyone following the trial here as we're going to need it.

With any luck, as they actually start to learn about the case, they'll be so appalled and shocked by the dozens of wtf moments and utter lunacy, they may be skewed for the SA.

Casey Anthony: Geraldo Rivera promises to ‘raise some hell down there in Orlando’

snippets from :

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/en...to-raise-some-hell-down-there-in-orlando.html

On “Geraldo At Large,” Rivera promised to cover the trial closely. “We’re going to raise some hell down there in Orlando and bust apart some of the preconceived notions that may exist,” he said.

Rivera said Anthony’s prosecution was “a political decision” by a county prosecutor that “will come back to haunt him and the people of Orange County, Florida.”

:maddening::maddening::maddening:

Can someone PLEASE get a "GAG ORDER " for this guy ?

YES! PLEASE! I am appalled at all of the "names" that want to come out on behalf of an accused baby killer! I get that she is presumed innocent! I get that she is entitled to a fair trial! But, if she hadn't hired an attorney who wanted to rocket to stardom on this case, none of this would be happening! She would have already pled or been found guilty, and be serving her sentence by now! This comment by GR is so far over the top, I want to puke! :maddening: :banghead:

Oh, Geraldo needs some ratings and so he goes with this. They are going to come out of the woodwork to make money and take the opposite side. I am going to tune in to wftv - forget HLN, maybe Nancy, but I am not watching these people who are there to make money off it.

The prosecution had nothing to do with making this case a media sensation. Cindy and George were at the forefront. I believe Geraldo said Cindy was in profound denial and did many a show showing her daughter's guilt.

So give me a New York break Geraldo "Rivers".
