UPDATED: Padilla: I Thought Caylee Was Alive
Videos Released By State Attorney's Office
POSTED: Friday, September 4, 2009
UPDATED: 12:03 pm EDT September 4, 2009
<snipped>
FBI agents and investigators from the Orange County Sheriff's office interviewed Padilla on Dec. 19, the day after Anthony's 2-year-old daughter, Caylee's, remains were identified.

"My thinking was she would talk to us and eventually we would bond and she would give up the information that we needed, because my thinking was the baby was alive," Padilla said about bonding Anthony out of jail.

Padilla also discussed signing an agreement with defense attorney Jose Baez, as well as other potential suspects in Caylee's death, including Anthony's ex-boyfriend, Jesse Grund.

The sheriff's office has always maintained that Grund is not a suspect in the case.

Two videos showing a search of the wooded area where the remains of were later found were also included in the release. Private investigators Dominic Casey and James Hoover were hired by Anthony's defense and taped a two-day search of the wooded area off Suburban Drive.

Local 6 reporter Tony Pipitone watched the video, which was shot in November, and said it appears the investigators came close to where Caylee's body was later found, but did not actually approach the area on the first day, and on the second came a little closer to the area.

Refresh this page for more details as Local 6 posts more information about the documents.

UPDATED: Padilla, Body Guards Tell All In Newly Released Interviews
Posted: 9:19 am EDT September 4, 2009
Updated: 7:01 pm EDT September 4, 2009
<snipped>
Cute pictures of Caylee Marie Anthony came out with the new evidence Friday, but the woman who guarded Casey right after she got out of jail said Casey had no interest in Caylee.

McLaughlin says Casey never cried about Caylee, but she giggled about an online flirtation and even flirted with McLaughlin's associate.

"She goes, 'I put on eye makeup today for when we play the sunglass game,'" McLaughlin told investigators.

The 'game' was taking off her sunglasses and looking at McLaughlin's associate through the rearview mirror as he drove her to her attorney's office.

Bodyguard Tracy McLaughlin told investigators Casey's first morning at home started with a huge fight with her father George.

"I woke up to, 'Quit your f***ing lying!' I mean, screaming. They could have heard it across the street. 'Don't f***ing lie to me. I'm not putting up with your s***!' She says, 'No, no, you have to believe me. Don't treat me like a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 cop. Act like my father instead of a cop.' George said, 'I'm not listening to your s***! Quit f***ing lying!'" McLaughlin told investigators.

TWO HEARINGS NEXT WEEK IN FRAUD CASE
As they prepare for her murder trial, Casey's defense lawyers will head to court next week for the civil case against her. Two hearing are set next week in the defamation suit filed by Zenaida Gonzalez.

On September 8 at 10:00am, Casey's attorney will ask the judge to dismiss the civil case, or at least postpone it until after her murder trial.

The next day at 3:15pm, there will be a hearing to compel George and Cindy Anthony to answer questions that they refused to answer during their deposition.

New Tapes: Casey claims Caylee was kidnapped by Zenaida and sister
September 4, 2009 10:10 AM
<snipped>
Tapes released Friday as evidence in the case give a look inside the Anthony home in the hours after she was released from jail. Leonard Padilla told investigators that after Anthony got home and took a shower, she gave him a new explanation of what happened to her daughter. She said she went to Jay Blanchard Park to meet her babysitter, Zenaida Gonzalez, and Gonzalez' sister, named Samantha.

At the park, Padilla said Casey Anthony claimed the sisters took Caylee.

Padilla also said the strain quickly showed in the family.

"George (Anthony) had gotten upset, come into the room and said 'I want to know what happened to my granddaughter in a violent fashion,'" Padilla said. "And Cindy (Anthony) had attempted to get him out of the room and couldn't and therefore she called for Jim, his cop buddy, to come help. And at the same time, the response from Casey was 'quit acting like a (expletive) cop and act like a father for once in your life.'"

Padilla claimed his crew seemed more emotional about Caylee's disappearance than Casey did.

"She would wiggle her little butt coming out of that attorney's office the same way the whole time," Padilla said. "Nothing has changed in her demeanor since the first day she bailed out of jail."

The new evidence also includes recorded conversations between dispatchers and deputies at the woods where Caylee's remains were later found, and a video showing clips from the Nancy Grace TV show mixed with footage from what appears to be a small-town parade.

Casey Anthony cared more about clothes than Caylee, witness says

And now ... the Leonard tapes.

Or as WFTV-Channel 9 anchor Greg Warmoth previewed them: "Newly released recordings that Casey Anthony's defense team did not want you to hear."

WFTV and WESH-Channel 2 focused on Padilla employee Tracy McLaughlin's comments to investigators. WFTV's Kathi Belich highlighted McLaughlin's view that "Casey was very concerned about what she would wear in front of our cameras. Tracy said she never seemed so concerned about Caylee."

Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.

"Fascinating," WESH's Michelle Meredith said of McLaughlin's comments about life inside the Anthony home. Anchor Syan Rhodes said McLaughlin described Anthony's behavior as "peculiar."

On arriving home, Anthony wanted to take a shower and didn't say anything about Caylee, McLaughlin said.

McLaughlin in her own words: "I was thinking: She's not even upset. Not a word about her daughter. None. And George didn't say anything. And Cindy didn't say anything. It was just unbelievable."

Sheriff's Office Interview Of Leonard Padilla
Friday, September 04, 2009 7:12:29 PM
<snipped>
SACRAMENTO, Calif.: On Sept. 18, 2008, Cmdr. Matt Irwin from the Orange County Sheriff's Office and Agent Nick Savage of the FBI travelled to Sacramento to interview bounty hunter and television personality Leonard Padilla in the Case Against Casey Anthony.

Padilla was the first person to bond Casey out of jail and spent a lot of time at her home, interacting with Casey and her family.

He and the family later parted ways and Padilla had Casey's bail revoked.

The lengthy interview took a good part of the day. While in California, investigators also spoke with Tracy McLaughlin, Padilla's associate and Robert Dick, a private detective.

Casey Anthony: Witness says she's very likable, but a whacko
posted by halboedeker on Sep 4, 2009 4:31:00 PM
<snipped>
You can read the latest words about Casey Anthony, but it means more to hear them.

Tracy McLaughlin, an associate of bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, watched Anthony in the days after the young mother bonded out of jail and went home. McLaughlin's warm, friendly voice enlivens her recollections about Anthony, who is charged with the first-degree murder of daughter Caylee. McLaughlin's voice filled newscasts today.

WESH-Channel 2's Michelle Meredith succinctly summed up the news: "Casey rarely talked about the charges against her. According to Tracy, Casey mainly talked about Casey."

Then WESH played McLaughlin's take on Anthony. McLaughlin told investigators: "The sad thing is ... I really kind of liked her. Just cause I fell sorry for whackos or something. But she's a very likable girl. She is ... if she wasn't so ..."

McLaughlin didn't finish the thought.

Anthony also wondered about trying to raise money for her defense by signing photographs or going on Howard Stern's radio show. "But he's want to know my bra size and if [defense attorney] Jose [Baez] was hitting it."

The next day, there will be a hearing to compel George and Cindy Anthony to answer questions that they refused to answer during their deposition.

Casey Anthony: Bounty hunter Leonard Padilla stirred up Anthony family when he arrived
California bounty hunter Leonard Padilla got upset about pizza delivery after he bailed Casey out of jail, audio interviews show
5:11 p.m. EDT, September 4, 2009
<snipped>
Three people who were among the closest to Casey Anthony after she first got out of jail last summer told investigators that Anthony -- while her 2-year-daughter remained missing -- was jovial and overly concerned with her public persona.

Interviews with colorful California bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, his nephew Rob Dick and their associate Tracy McLaughlin were among investigative findings released Friday by Florida prosecutors in their first-degree murder case against Anthony.

The State Attorney's Office released two DVDs and a CD full of lengthy audio files, cell phone photos of Caylee Marie and also home video from a private investigator who was working with Anthony's family to find the missing girl.

Some other highlight's from Padilla's interview:

Padilla asked Lee Anthony if his sister took any drugs. "[Lee Anthony] got a little perturbed about it," Padilla said. He did not elaborate on whether Lee Anthony answered to the question.

"This is the kind of nut I didn't need to talk to," Padilla said of Lee Anthony. "There were times when it just didn't ring that he was being on the level with us."

Padilla told investigators Casey Anthony would "wiggle her little butt coming out of that attorney's office." He said her demeanor never changed since she left the jail.

Padilla said Casey Anthony told fellow bounty hunter Rob Dick that she didn't realize she was going to be a celebrity, but then realized how newsworthy she had become.

"Maybe I should take pictures, autograph them and sell them," Padilla said Casey Anthony had told Dick. "I could make a lot of money."

Casey Anthony: Bounty hunter's assistant says Casey was jovial after jail release
More discovery evidence is released Friday in the State Attorney's against Casey Anthony.
5:07 p.m. EDT, September 4, 2009
<snipped>
Tracy McLaughlin said one night, the topic of GHB -- known as the date-rape drug -- came up. McLaughlin asked Casey Anthony if she knew what the drug was and its effects.

"She said like roofies . . . or chloroform," McLaughlin said. "Roofies" is slang for Rohypnol, a date-rape drug.

McLaughlin said that statement was made before chloroform ever came out publicly as being linked to Casey Anthony's car. McLaughlin said it didn't mean anything to her at the time.

Other revelations from Friday's discovery: Casey Anthony also liked being on TV, McLaughlin said. It was a game to her.

"She liked the attention," she said.

"It was just unbelievable," she said. "It was like she'd gone to Iraq or something and just got back. So there's still nothing about Caylee."

"She'll tell a story and she has such a belief in herself. She has no grasp on reality. This is where her problem is. She has no grasp."

"It was like it was competition. She wanted the limelight. It was sad. You couldn't talk about anything else. It just had to be her."

"She didn't talk about Caylee at all."

Casey Anthony: Witness says she was cold, talking chloroform
posted by halboedeker on Sep 4, 2009 5:52:17 PM
<snipped>
Casey Anthony's defense team didn't want the public to hear interviews that the FBI conducted with Leonard Padilla and his team.

"Now we know why," WFTV-Channel 9 anchor Martie Salt said.

Belich said McLaughlin was "stunned by Casey's stone-cold reaction to a finding that air in her trunk showed signs of human decomposition."

Anthony looked at the television and said a lot of people had access to the car, McLaughlin told investigators.

When Anthony learned hair consistent with hers and Caylee's came from a dead body, her reaction was even colder, Belich said. McLaughlin said Anthony said, "I'm alive."

During a conversation about drugs that in high doses can knock out a person, McLaughlin brought up ether.

Anthony mentioned chloroform.

The significance of that conversation?

"That was before any reports about Casey's computer searches about the potentially deadly chloroform or reports that traces of chloroform were found in her car trunk," Belich said.

WFTV also highlighted developments in the defamation case against Anthony. Anthony's team will seek the dismissal of Zenaida Gonzalez's defamation suit on Tuesday. On Wednesday, there will be a hearing to compel George and Cindy Anthony to answer questions they refused to earlier.

Padilla: Casey never shed tear over girl
Updated: Friday, 04 Sep 2009, 8:21 PM EDT
Published : Friday, 04 Sep 2009, 8:21 PM EDT
<snipped>
California bounty hunter Leonard Padilla and his colleagues said in police interviews released Friday the 23-year-old mother acted "chirpy" and "perky" after her release from jail. The interviews were released by the State Attorney's Office in Orlando. An e-mail to a spokeswoman for Anthony's attorney was not immediately answered.

In one police interview, Tracy McLaughlin, who was part of the bail bondsmen team, said Anthony didn't appear to have a grasp on reality. For instance, Anthony had McLaughlin wear a watch on her ankle to match the monitoring device that Anthony was wearing.

McLaughlin also described Anthony as narcissistic yet likable. McLaughlin was with Anthony around the clock in the days after she was released from jail in August 2008 to protect the bail bondsmen's investment in Anthony.

"I'm thinking, 'She's not even upset. Not a word about her daughter,"' McLaughlin said. "It was unbelievable."

Casey Anthony: WKMG estimates how close family private eye came to Caylee's remains
posted by halboedeker on Sep 5, 2009 7:52:05 AM
<snipped>
WKMG-Channel 6 looked into Dominic Casey's efforts to find the toddler over two days in November last year. A month later, a meter reader discovered the child's remains.

Why did the private eye fall short? "Perhaps because the search wasn't thorough," WKMG's Louis Bolden said. "Perhaps because he searched the wrong area."

Looking back at video of the private eye's search, Bolden estimated that Dominic Casey was nearly 345 feet from the path to Caylee's remains on one day last November. The next day, the private eye was about 60 feet from the remains, Bolden said.

And what did Casey Anthony say about her legal troubles? She talked about looking forward to a mistrial or a change of venue, but apparently said nothing about being acquitted, WFTV-Channel 9's Kathi Belich said.

The civil case against Casey Anthony heads to court twice this week.

On Tuesday an Orange County judge is set to hear a motion to dismiss the defamation complaint. A woman named zenaida Gonzalez is suing because Casey Anthony told investigators a baby-sitter with that name kidnapped her daughter Caylee.

On Wednesday attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez will be back in court. They want George and Cindy Anthony to answer more questions in their depositions. They also want to hold private investigator Dominic Casey in contempt of court for not appearing for his deposition.

UPDATED: Decision Delayed In Anthony Civil Case
POSTED: Monday, September 7, 2009
UPDATED: 12:29 pm EDT September 8, 2009
<snipped>
A Florida judge has postponed deciding whether to dismiss a defamation lawsuit filed by a Central Florida woman who claims Casey Anthony damaged her reputation.

The judge in Orlando also delayed deciding whether to postpone the defamation lawsuit until after Anthony's criminal trial on a first-degree murder charge.

A woman by the name of Zenaida Gonzalez has filed a defamation lawsuit against Anthony, seeking $15,000 and claiming that she could not secure employment because of the link to the case.

If the judge allows the case to move forward, Anthony's attorneys will request that the civil case be postponed until after her murder trial, which is scheduled to begin next year.

Gonzalez's attorneys will return to court on Wednesday to ask a judge to force Anthony's parents, George and Cindy Anthony, to answer questions they refused to answer during depositions earlier this year.

Zenaida Gonzalez Says Anthony Ruined Her Reputation
POSTED: 10:16 am EDT September 7, 2009
UPDATED: 12:09 pm EDT September 8, 2009

The hearing lasted two hours, and the judge has not issued his ruling yet.

Zenaida Gonzalez -- the woman who claims Casey ruined her reputation by saying someone with her name abducted Caylee Anthony -- is pursuing a civil defamation case. Anthony's attorneys want it dismissed, saying her attorneys can not show the alleged defamatory statement was directed at the Zenaida Gonzalez who has filed the lawsuit.

If they can't get it delayed, they want to have the judge delay it until after Anthony's criminal trial next year.

Keith Mitnik, an attorney for Gonzalez, said his client is only Zenaida Gonzalez that police interviewed. He also objects to delaying the case, because he said the criminal case could take years.

In the second hearing on Wednesday, Zenaida's attorneys will attempt to get Cindy and George Anthony to answer more questions.

Defense attorney Richard Hornsby said he thinks the judge will tell Gonzalez's attorney to move on with the case.

"It's obvious Zenaida Gonzalez doesn't exist so they need to move on to proving she doesn't exist and securing whatever the damages are," he said.

Casey Anthony: Will George, Cindy be forced to answer questions?
posted by halboedeker on Sep 7, 2009 6:42:43 PM
<snipped>
But Orlando defense attorney Richard Hornsby, who provides legal analysis for WESH, predicted that the judge will tell Gonzalez's attorneys to move on. The reason? The attorneys have enough information to make their case, Kealing said.

"It's very obvious that this Zenaida Gonzalez doesn't exist," Hornsby said. "They now need to move into the next phase of their case, which is proving Zenaida didn't exist to a jury or judge, and seeking whatever the damages are. This is your typical tit-for-tat lawyering that I think gives lawyers in general a bad name."

I'd love to hear what John Morgan, Gonzalez's attorney, has to say to that.

Kealing added: "WESH 2 has learned that Gonzalez's lawyers seriously considered suing Cindy Anthony for allegedly repeating libelous statements against Gonzalez that she knew were incorrect. For now they have decided against that course of action."

Hmmm. Wouldn't you like to know more details? That sentence sounds like a warning to Cindy Anthony.

But first on Tuesday, Casey Anthony's civil attorney will ask the judge to delay or dismiss the civil suit until after her murder trial, Kealing said.

UPDATED: Judge Postpones Decisions In Civil Case Against Casey
Posted: 7:30 am EDT September 8, 2009
Updated: 5:14 pm EDT September 8, 2009
<snipped>
The judge did not rule on anything Tuesday, but he did give some indication that he thought it was too premature to dismiss the case.

Casey Anthony's defense team said the civil lawsuit filed against its client was frivolous and the team was hoping Judge Jose Rodriquez would dismiss the suit, but that didn't happen. The judge said he wanted to wait.

"I will probably decline to rule, if not deny it," he said.

Once the judge said that, the attorneys started to argue whether or not the civil suit should move forward or wait until after the criminal case. In the past, the defense asked the judge to postpone the civil case until after the criminal case.

Judge Rodriquez initially said no, but Tuesday he said he may have made a mistake.

"I may have been wrong. I may have been wrong," he said.

"When you are dealing with whatever money damages your client can get versus someone's life and liberty, how do you weigh that?" Judge Rodriquez said.

The judge will probably make a decision in a month.

A judge today listened to lawyers but put off deciding whether to delay or throw out the civil suit against Casey Anthony, a mother accused of killing her daughter last year.

Orange Circuit Court Judge Jose R. Rodriguez said he hopes to rule on those issues in about a month.

"This is not an easy case," he said.

Casey Anthony's civil attorney, Jonathan Kasen argued the defamation suit should be delayed until her criminal case is resolved.

Another hearing is set for Wednesday (*September 9th at 3:15 p.m. Plaintiff's Motion to Compel Geroge and Cindy Anthony to Answer) in the civil case. That's when Mitnik is going to ask the judge to force Casey Anthony's parents to replay to specific questions that they declined to answer during depositions.
