Dr. G Reflects On Caylee Autopsy
Garavaglia Talks About Opening Of New Medical Examiner's Office

The medical examiner who performed an autopsy on Caylee Anthony talked about it for the first time on Thursday.

Dr. Jan Garavaglia, who is also known as Dr. G, has remained quiet about the case since she confirmed the remains were those of Caylee in December.

At a luncheon on Thursday, Garavaglia talked to WESH 2 News about the rarity of finding a homicide victim without an official cause of death.

"Maybe not every year, but clearly every other year you get one or two," Garavaglia said.

Casey Anthony: What is defense's proof someone else dumped Caylee?
posted by halboedeker on Sep 11, 2009 6:42:46 PM
<snipped>
Volunteer searchers might be the focus. If the defense team has "a mystery Texas EquuSearch witness or witnesses," the attorneys "must bring them out of the shadows and reveal their information to prosecutors" under the state's rules of discovery, Kealing explained.

Orlando defense attorney Mark NeJame praised the state's motion in the WESH report. "I think this motion is very well taken," NeJame said. "If, in fact, they've got somebody who says different than all the others I'm aware of shows, put up or shut up." (NeJame is a former attorney for George and Cindy Anthony, the parents of Casey Anthony.)

Defense attorney Jose Baez has not indicated what evidence he will produce in response to the state's motion, yet Kealing speculated that "undoubtedly" the defense will use videotape of the Anthonys' private eye searching the woods in November. A month later, Caylee's body was found in those woods.

Anthony's Attend A-Z Missing Children Outreach Gathering on 9/11/09
For 3 Florida families, 9/11 is a day to remember vanished children
Published: September 11, 2009

While most Americans remember 9/11 as the day terrorists struck the homeland, three Florida families remember it as the day their children vanished.

Cindy and George Anthony were also at this morning's walk. The Anthony's daughter is currently in jail, accused of killing her daughter, and their granddaughter, Caylee Anthony.

George Anthony said he attended the event to show his support for other families who've lost loved ones.

"There's some individuals out there that they think, 'this will never happen to me. I don't have to worry about it,'" Anthony said. "But when it does, we're going to be there to help them."

Casey Anthony: Missing piece is how Caylee died, WESH says
posted by halboedeker on Sep 14, 2009 11:48:47 PM
<snipped>
The uncertainty over how Caylee Anthony died is the major missing piece in what WESH-Channel 2 anchor Jim Payne called "a giant puzzle of circumstantial evidence."

What are people in the street saying? One woman said she thought the child's death had been an accident, and another woman said it would be difficult to convict Anthony without clearer evidence. But a man said that Anthony's attempts to cover up the crime exposed her guilt.

"The prosecution still has no evidence to tell you exactly how she [Caylee] died, what caused her death," said Richard Hornsby, a defense attorney who does analysis for the station.

Kealing listed some major pieces of circumstantial evidence that suggest premeditation: the computer searches into neck-breaking, the duct tape on Caylee's skull, the scent of death in Casey's car and the single strand of decomposing hair.

But Kealing concluded: "Without Caylee's cause of death, jurors could find it significantly more difficult to convict Casey of murder."

What do you think?

Anthonys' P.I. Accused Of Lying On Stand
Posted: 2:53 pm EDT September 14, 2009
Updated: 7:17 pm EDT September 14, 2009
<snipped>
Also, a new motion from the prosecution claims one of Casey's lawyers is either lying or not playing by the court's rules.

Last week under oath, the private eye said he was working for Casey's defense team when he searched the woods in November.

"You would be working under contract for Casey Anthony, Jose Baez and George and Cindy? All at that time?" asked attorney Keith Mitnik.

"That would be correct," responded Dominic Casey.

If that's true, WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says it links Casey Anthony to her daughter's remains in the woods.

"It is more likely then that the information that lead him to that area came from someone in the defense team who had the knowledge this body was there," Sheaffer said.

But in June 2008, the private investigator told detectives under oath that he was not working for the defense during the search.

"When did you terminate with Jose Baez?" asked an investigator.

"The termination was October 1," replied Dominic Casey.

The contradiction raises questions about the claim that a psychic sent him to the woods. Compounding the problem is a recent mistake by Casey's defense.

Casey Anthony latest: Attorneys say private eye gave conflicting stories
Zenaida Gonzalez's attorneys want private investigator Dominic Casey to give a deposition in the Casey Anthony defamation case.
1:48 p.m. EDT, September 14, 2009
<snipped>
Civil attorneys for the Zenaida Gonzalez, a Kissimmee woman suing Casey Anthony in a defamation case, aren't backing down in trying to get a deposition from a private eye who worked for the Anthony family.

The lawyers are claiming Dominic Casey is telling two different stories -- one to investigators and another to the court.

At a hearing in the civil case last week, Dominic Casey testified that he worked for Casey Anthony, her defense attorney, Jose Baez, and her parents, George and Cindy Anthony since July 2008.

But in January, he told Orange County Sheriff's Sgt. John Allen that had ended his contractional relationship with Baez on Oct. 1 and had not spoken to Casey Anthony since Oct. 12.

From that date on, he was working "exclusively" for George and Cindy Anthony. That meant he was free to answer questions about conversations he had with George and Cindy Anthony.

Gonzalez's filed another request, pointing to the private investigator's interview with detectives and the criminal judge's ruling.

Casey Anthony: WESH asks if there's a hole in state's case
posted by halboedeker on Sep 14, 2009 4:33:33 PM
<snipped>
Reporter Bob Kealing teased this afternoon: "From the thousands of pages of evidence we've seen so far, we'll look at how far prosecutors have come toward proving that Caylee Anthony was indeed murdered at the hands of her mother and we'll look at whether there is a giant hole in the state's case against Casey."

Casey is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter.

A WESH promo dangled "the one thing about Caylee that could clear her mother of murder."

WFTV-Channel 9 at noon reported that Zenaida Gonzalez's lawyers want a judge to force private investigator Dominic Casey to answer their questions. Anchor Barbara West explained a discrepancy: The private eye testified last week that he was working for Casey Anthony's defense team in November, but last summer he told the FBI he wasn't working for the defense team. Gonzalez is suing Anthony for linking her to the disappearance of Caylee.

Later, WFTV's Kathi Belich explored the state's demand to see the evidence that Anthony's attorneys say clears Casey. "If nothing is handed over, it backfires on Casey Anthony," Belich said.

Motion: Casey P.I. Info Not Privileged
Lawyers In Civil Case Seek To Depose P.I.
POSTED: Monday, September 14, 2009
UPDATED: 2:21 pm EDT September 14, 2009

Gonzalez's attorneys want a judge to order private investigator Dominic Casey to give a deposition for the civil case.

On Thursday, Casey testified that he was working on behalf of the Anthony family, and anything he had to say was privileged, and the judge agreed.

In the motion filed on Monday, Gonzalez's attorneys argue that Casey spoke freely to sheriff's investigators and that the judge in the criminal trial against Anthony released the statements on the grounds that they were not privileged. Gonzalez's attorneys want to depose Casey for the civil case.

Attorneys: Dominic Casey's Story Not Adding Up
Tuesday, September 15, 2009 4:51:57 AM

Lawyers representing Zenaida Gonzalez in the civil case against Casey Anthony are trying to depose a private investigator.

Zenaida Gonzalez's attorneys claim Dominic Casey is telling two different stories -- one to investigators and another to the court.

At a hearing last week, Dominic Casey testified he worked for Casey Anthony, her lawyer, and her parents since July 2008.

But in January, he told an Orange County investigator he has only worked for George and Cindy Anthony since last October, meaning he was free to answer questions about conversations he had with them.

The judge in the civil case originally denied the original deposition request. Now Gonzalez's lawyers have filed another request.

Big Question In Anthony Case: How Did Caylee Die?
Some Wonder If Prosecutors Can Prove Murder
POSTED: 7:02 pm EDT September 14, 2009
UPDATED: 11:18 pm EDT September 14, 2009
<snipped>
Without proof that Caylee was murdered, some say it will be much tougher for prosecutors to get the conviction they are looking for.

How did Caylee die? Was it suffocation? Strangulation? Accidental drowning? No one knows for sure.

"The prosecution still has no evidence how she died," attorney Richard Hornsby told WESH 2 News. "Was it accidental or intentional?"

Some people who have followed the case still don't think Caylee was murdered.

Without clearer evidence of how Caylee died, some say it would be hard for them to convict her mother Casey of premeditated murder.

Hornsby said, "If their goal is to get the death penalty, they need to come up with that evidence. It's way too weak."

Said James Lormand, "Whether it was an accident or not that killed her, the fact that she tried to cover it up still means she's guilty."

Motion Seeks To Force Dominic Casey To Testify
Attorneys Seek Ruling In Zenaida Gonzalez-Casey Anthony Lawsuit
POSTED: 12:47 pm EDT September 14, 2009
UPDATED: 1:33 pm EDT September 14, 2009
<snipped>
Attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez filed a new motion Monday asking a judge to force the Anthonys' former private investigator to submit to a sworn deposition.

In their new filing in the civil lawsuit against Casey Anthony, Gonzalez' lawyers claim work done by private investigator Dominic Casey is not confidential.

They also cite an 80-page transcript of an interview Dominic Casey did with detectives earlier this year where he spoke freely about certain aspects of the criminal case against Casey Anthony. She is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter, Caylee, who was 2 when she was reported missing in 2008.

Gonzalez and her team want Dominic Casey to pay for their attorneys' fees, costs and "any other sanctions" the court feels is appropriate.

Missing Children Remembered At Ceremony
Monday, September 14, 2009 11:26:18 PM
<snipped>
Dozens of families were at the state capitol Monday for Missing Children’s Day.

It's a chance to remember all the young people who have vanished over the years.

Most of the names have become all too familiar -- Tiffany Sessions, Haleigh Cummings and Jennifer Kesse.

But the hope is raised awareness could bring a break in their cases.

The remains of Cindy Anthony's missing granddaughter Caylee were found in 2008.

Anthony said it's important for every parent to collect a sample of their child’s DNA just in case.

“Parents don't realize you can swab your child's mouth and put the DNA in the freezer and it will last, so, you know, we just need more awareness,” Anthony said.

Thanks to legislation passed earlier this year, anyone charged with a felony will have their DNA entered into the database.

Civil liberty advocates said it goes against the principle of being “innocent until proven guilty.”

Anthony Prosecution To Depose P.I., Girlfriend
Depositions Slated For November
POSTED: 6:57 pm EDT September 15, 2009

Prosecutors filed a notice Tuesday in the case against Casey Anthony of their intent to depose two more people.

They include the Anthonys' former private investigator Dominic Casey and Lee Anthony's girlfriend, Mallory Parker.

Casey has been the subject of much speculation in the wake of videotape taken of him searching the area where Caylee's remains were found a month later.

Casey said he was following the direction of a psychic who directed him to the area. Both depositions are scheduled for November at the state attorney's office.

Prosecutors handling the Casey Anthony first-degree murder case will question private investigator Dominic Casey in November, according to a deposition notice filed today.

Dominic Casey will be questioned at 11 a.m. Nov. 12.

Prosecutors will also depose Mallory Parker on Nov. 12. Parker was Casey Anthony's brother's girlfriend at the time Caylee was reported missing.

It's unclear what Parker and Lee Anthony's relationship status is today.

Prosecutors also filed another discovery notice today, outlining what items will be released to Casey Anthony's defense team. It includes a one-page document and a CD of Casey Anthony's tattoos.

Brevard lawyer overcame trials, takes spotlight in Caylee case
September 16, 2009
<snipped>
Brad Conway already was an experienced trial attorney in Orlando by the time he met George Anthony, who worked security in the building where Conway lived.

The two became friends and had lively conversations when their paths crossed. Eventually, Anthony left to work elsewhere.

"When the Anthony case started and Caylee went missing, I saw it on TV but didn't realize it was George," said Conway, 44, who grew up in Brevard County.

When Anthony and another attorney parted ways, a mutual friend gave Conway's business card to Anthony.

"He said he should have called me right from the start," Conway said.

CBS' "48 Hours Mystery" will examine the Casey Anthony case in a fall episode.

A Web site promo for the program shows Cindy Anthony, Casey's mom. An announcer says, "The case that riveted the country. Her granddaughter dead. Her own daughter accused. Now Casey Anthony's parents are fighting to save her life." Casey Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her daughter, Caylee.

The network did not list an air date.

As CBS likes to note, "48 Hours Mystery" is the No. 1 series on Saturday nights. It airs at 10 p.m. on WKMG-Channel 6.

UPDATED: Casey Anthony case: Casey defense team files motion to dismiss case
6:35 p.m. EDT, September 17, 2009
<snipped>
Also filed on Thursday were motions related to the videotaping Casey Anthony has endured since being in the Orange County Jail.

The defense asked that the jail "immediately cease and desist from monitoring and/or disclosing any communications" that Anthony has with her attorneys and that it "destroy all video or audio tapes or reports" of meetings between her and her attorneys.

And it wants the jail to destroy videos of Anthony and her attorneys.

Anthony also wants to visit with her family without fear their meetings will be recorded and released to the media.
