Anthony Check Trial Less Than 3 Weeks Away 23-Year-Old Accused Of Stealing Money From Friend

UPDATED: 12:15 pm EST January 5, 2010
<snipped> Court records show Casey Anthony is less than three weeks away from her first criminal trial.
On Jan. 25, Anthony is scheduled to stand trial for 13 check fraud counts.
The felony charges stem from allegations she drained her friend Amy Huizenga's bank account of several hundred dollars while her daughter, Caylee, was missing.
Judge Stan Strickland so far has not acted on her defense team's request to move the trial.
Neither side will comment on whether a plea could be in the works on the fraud case.

<snipped> Eyewitness News followed Andrea Lyon through each court hearing as she worked to build a defense that can save Casey Anthony from the death penalty for the murder of her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony.
Lyon's new book, "Angel of Death Row: My Life as a Death Penalty Defense Lawyer," which doesn't focus on the Anthony case, is now heading to store shelves. The book explores Lyon’s first case in which she defends a mother accused of murdering her child.

<snipped> Lyon told NBC's Meredith Vieira that the defense team suffered a setback when Judge Stan Strickland allowed Casey Anthony's murder trial to include a possible death sentence.
"It does put a lot of pressure on her to plea bargain," Lyon said.
Lyon wouldn't reveal details of the defense case, but she said "there's no evidence this was a homicide let alone any evidence tying her to it."
But a medical examiner ruled Caylee Anthony death's a homicide of unknown means. The crime lab found a hair with a so-called death band in the trunk of Casey Anthony's car that matched hairs from Caylee's skull.
Forensic scientists also said they found a flaky substance on paper towels from a trash bag inside Casey Anthony's vehicle's trunk. The substance was identified as "grave wax," which comes from decomposing corpses. In a recent report, an entomologist said microscopic insects known as coffin flies were found that feed off decomposition were also found on the towels and in the trunk.

Casey Anthony: Andrea Lyon says her client didn’t kill Caylee
Caylee and Casey Anthony, NBC, Today, WESH — posted by halboedeker on January, 7 2010 8:41 AM
<snipped> Lyon acknowledged that the death penalty puts a lot of pressure on a defendant even when they haven’t committed a murder. “She didn’t kill her kid,” Lyon said of Anthony.
There was a long pause.
“You’re absolutely sure without a doubt?” Vieira asked.
“I’m sure,” Lyon responded.
“Based on?” Vieira said.
Lyon pointed to the evidence. “There’s not even any evidence that this was a homicide, let alone any evidence tying her to it,” the attorney said.
Lyon visited “Today” to promote her new book, “Angel of Death Row.” But the show spent more time on the Casey Anthony case. Lyon said there was a lot of anger directed at Anthony and her attorneys
Casey's Ex, Jesse Grund, Objects To Motion

<snipped> Casey Anthony’s former fiance is fighting a motion from her defense team to get more of his cell phone records.
Casey's defense team wants records of Jesse Grund’s telephone usage from March 2008 through February 2009.
Grund's attorney says that's unreasonable. Grund already provided cell phone records between June and July 2008 to investigators, which is the time period that Caylee Anthony disappeared.
Casey's Attorney: "I'm Scared For My Client”
Posted: 1:10 pm EST January 7, 2010
Updated: 4:28 pm EST January 7, 2010
<snipped> Defense attorney Andrea Lyon says she will keep trying to get the death penalty off the table, but she stumbled over her words when she said Casey didn't kill her daughter Caylee Anthony.
“It does put a lot of pressure on a defendant to plea bargain even when they didn't, when they didn't do it. She didn't kill her kid,” Lyon said.
WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer says the evidence is what it is and that people have a right not to believe that Casey had good reason for not reporting her daughter missing for 30 days and to also not to believe her inconsistent story about leaving Caylee with a nanny who's never been identified.
"Quit whining and get to the defense of this case. The evidence is, the facts are what the facts are. If that is tried before a jury in Orlando, Tampa, New York City, or Timbuktu, the jurors are going to form their opinion based upon their view of that evidence," Sheaffer said.
Andrea Lyon repeated the defense's mantra that the public won't find out until the trial why Casey is innocent, but, Sheaffer says, if they really had something convincing that could spring Casey from jail they would have brought it forward by now. *More info at link!
Casey Anthonys Luxury of Commissary Orders May End Soon
Thursday, January 7, 2010
<snipped> Casey Anthonys Check Fraud trial is scheduled for January 25th. A delay in a plea agreement for Casey Anthonys 9 Check Fraud charges, gives Casey more time to enjoy her commissary food & item orders. Casey will be be charged fines and court fees for each charge. Judge Strickland basically said that since Casey hasnt had any criminal past, she will most likely only be given about a year of jail time of which she has already served. But Casey will have to pay the court fees and fines associated with each charge., regardless if she makes a plea deal or goes to trial & is found guilty. The only money Casey has is in her Commissary Account & this will be taken away to pay for the fines & fees. Likewise, any further money put into her account will be taken to pay for the fines & fees.
If Baez or the Anthonys do not pay for the fines/fees, Casey will be left with no money to pay for commissary items.

That is something they simply can’t — or won’t — do. Last week on WOFL-Channel 35, George shared a letter he had written. He talked about his troubles and read from an article he had written, titled “Living Under a Microscope.”
“Suddenly you are thrown into a life that you have no control over,” George read. “Your everyday walking, talking is analyzed, dissected and just plain torn apart.”
But he and Cindy have kept putting themselves out there, under the microscope.
