Defense probes investigators on media leaks

Casey Anthony's defense team repeatedly asked about who was talking to reporters about the first-degree murder case.

Now, the defense team wants to attend meetings between court administrators and the media meant to work out the logistics of covering the trial — such as live video feeds, pool cameras, satellite-truck parking and press passes.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- WFTV obtained a handwritten "motion" from the Orange County Clerk's Office on Tuesday from an inmate not connected to the Casey Anthony case who appears to be filing it to get attorney Jose Baez removed from the case.

The list contains 23 channels, which includes TNT, USA and AMC.
The state objected to Lifetime & Lifetime Movie Network, but it may withdraw the objection if it can see the programming schedule for the channels.

According to the judge only a small number of those with media credentials will be inside the courtroom at any given time. The judge wants to make sure there are seats available in the courtroom for members of the public, reports the station.

A prison inmate has written letters to the judge, defense and prosecution.

Curtis Jackson, a maximum security inmate, claims to be a "favorable" witness to the defense, even though he wrote to prosecutors that Anthony wanted to hire a hit man.


Jackson wrote to prosecutors in June 2010, claiming he had information about the case.
A spokesperson with the Orange County Clerk's Office said it’s not their job to "filter" what goes into the court file, and they're obligated to enter everything that comes in.

Judge Perry can strike the motion. We’re not sure if the lawyers have to ask first.

Casey Anthony's trial is still about a month away, but vendors and media outlets are lining up to get anywhere near the Orange County courthouse for it.

Besides the horde of media representatives, food vendors will likely be there. There could also be protestors, and even entertainers looking to get in the circus surrounding the trial.

Baez could not be reached by phone and did not immediately respond to an e-mail requesting a response.

But he gave an interview to the In Session cable channel this morning. He said Anthony doesn't want him off the case and he blasted the local media that incorrectly reported that she did without checking with him first.This is not the first time a person who is not connected with the case put something meaningless into Anthony's court file.

Judge Perry in his order says "This case has generated nationwide publicity and the court filing currently consists of many volumes. Therefore, the Court finds it necessary and appropriate to preclude unauthorized filing."

Things, got off on the wrong foot for the defense this AM.
No one from the defense team informed the court they would need a video conference set up for a defense witness. So, Judge Belvin Perry put the court in a 30-minute recess to set up the equipment. The court resumed at 9:30am.

Wednesday's hearing was underway when Judge Perry got the news that an emergency loan was on its way from Tallahassee; $19.5 million to keep the courts running through the end of May.

Defense wants Judge Perry to throw out evidence from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Dr. Arpad Vass, tested the air in Anthony's trunk for traces of decomposition, which he said he detected. The test also found chloroform.

Defense attorney Dorothy Clay Sims questioned one of her team's experts, Dr. Barry Logan, for most of the day. Logan admitted that his opinions are coming from reading research papers and not from doing the work.


Anthony's defense suggested that Caylee Anthony's wet bathing suit in the trunk could cause a positive finding for chloroform in the air in the trunk of Casey's car.

"I'd like you to presume Caylee Anthony went swimming June 2, 2008, in Tony Lazarro's pool and that her mother put a wet bathing suit in the trunk of her car," Sims said to Logan.

"There are numerous papers that document chloroform in chlorinated swimming pools," Logan said.
