Still no sign of Haleigh Cummings

Sunday marks month three of the disappearance of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings. No new information has been released by investigators in the past weeks, and Haleigh's father has remained tight lipped since his marriage to his 17-year-old girlfriend.

In March, investigators with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said it was not clear if Haleigh was abducted. The trailer where she lived had no signs of forced entry but a back door was ajar.

A Department of Children & Families investigation is underway to determine the living conditions inside the home where Haleigh and her younger brother lived.

DCF still investigating Cummings case

By Kristin Chambers
Published: Friday, May 8, 2009 12:34 AM EDT

"The investigation is still going on," John Harrell, spokesman for the DCF in Jacksonville, said. "We have been given information and we are continuing to investigate."

Ronald Junior lives at his great-grandmother's house in Welaka with his father, Ronald, and stepmother, Misty Croslin.

"It's not about Crystal, it's about the state of Florida looking into if Ronald is a fit parent and whether or not Junior is in a safe home," Picazio said.
Harrell said that though the investigation is continuing, the DCF would not remove any child from a home unless they were in danger.

"Right now, Ronald and Misty are living with Ronald's grandmother, who is providing a stable home, and the DCF is fine with that," Snider said.

Cummings continues to look for work after losing his job as a crane operator, Kimball said, adding he and his law partner anticipate a child-custody dispute would be initiated by Sheffeld if the state doesn't act.

"It's still very possible that they will go to the courts now," Snider said.

90 days later: Where's Haleigh?

By Kristin Chambers
Published: Saturday, May 9, 2009 1:04 AM

"We don't know for sure what's happened, but we do know that somewhere down the end of the line there's going to be some type of crime involved," Capt. Dick Schauland, a spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, said Friday.

Schauland said investigators are still on the case, even though other events have occurred since the girl went missing.

"Obviously there are other things going on in the county too, but nonetheless the investigators are still working," Schauland said.
Sheffield recently had a seizure at the center, which Picazio blamed on stress. Picazio now has a full-time employee at the building, which she pays for herself.

In the new video, Ron asks the public to continue looking for his daughter. He also wanted to thank volunteers for searching for the girl.

“Haleigh if you’re watching, I love you and we’re still looking for you,” Ron said.

Ron’s attorney, Jerry Snider, also asked that the public remain diligent in coming forward with tips in the case.

Haleigh has been missing for approximately 93 days, according to the family attorney.

Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, and her grandmother, Teresa Neves, sat down with WJXT-TV Thursday and asked again for the safe return of their little girl.

"We have the job situation and the child custody situation, and everybody knows. The media has covered it, and it's been tough," said attorney Jerry Snider.

While much has changed, nightly vigils for Haleigh are still being held and her family continues to hold on to hope.

"I know that somebody has my little girl, and I know that she's a strong little girl," Neves said.

"I just think we'd like people to fill in some gaps better, specifically going toward the timeline you're talking about," Bowling said.

He said the last person to see Haleigh, Croslin, has been cooperative but inconsistent.

"There are inconsistencies that have remained since the beginning," Bowling said.

He also said other people aren't giving them the whole truth.

"It's not just one individual that we want to fill in those gaps," Bowling said. "All of the reasons people would be fearful about cooperating with police are all roadblocks here."

Vigil Held For Missing Haleigh Cummings
Caylee Anthony's Grandparents Attend Evening Vigil
POSTED: 8:26 pm EDT May 17, 2009

Sunday night, friends and supporters of Haleigh's family were in Central Florida for a vigil in the missing child's honor.

Her family has been pleading for the public's help in finding the girl, but keeping constant media attention on Haleigh and many other missing children has proven difficult for families nationwide.

That's why there's a group called the National Coalition to Bring Awareness to Missing Children and Adults that has chosen to have an annual event at locations throughout the country to spotlight these cases.

Her biological mother, Crystal Sheffield, was scheduled to speak.

In March, Sheffield said on WESH 2 News, "Haleigh, if you're watching, I love you and I miss you."

Haleigh's father's side of the family did not attend, but slain toddler Caylee Anthony's grandparents, Cindy and George Anthony, were there.

The bond Cindy Anthony and Crystal Sheffield share is a pain deep inside that only those who have a missing child can feel.

While George and Cindy Anthony still mourn the death of their granddaughter Caylee Marie, they spoke at the vigil to make people aware of missing children nationwide. "Coping with someone missing is the most gut wrenching, sick open wound feeling that you could ever have."

Haleigh Cummings grandmother, Marie Griffith agrees. "I can't explain to you the hurt right here. It's right here aching constantly."

George and Cindy Anthony, the grandparents of Caylee, joined Crystal Sheffield and Marie Griffis, the mother and grandmother of Haleigh, and dozens of other people at Lake Mary City Hall for a national vigil of hope.

The foursome pointed out that 2,300 people are reported missing nationwide every day.

"Even though we don't have Haleigh here at this moment, I know in my heart that (God) is going to bring her back to us," Griffis said.

"Coping with someone missing is the most gut-wrenching, sick, open-wound feeling you can ever, ever have," George Anthony said.

Family won't give up search for missing Putnam girl

By Lise Fisher
Published: Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 6:30 a.m.

More than three months since Haleigh Cummings was last seen, the same message of persistence and hope was voiced at the http://www.haleighbug.com/ center.

Ronald Cummings made a plea in a short video posted on the Web site http://www.findhaleighnow.com/ last week.

Putnam County Sheriff's Capt. Dick Schauland stressed that if the agency had information that would lead to Haleigh's safe return, investigators would release it regardless of the impact on the case.

"At this point, I would have to tell you we don't know where Haleigh is, and we don't know what has happened to her. Nobody has been named as a suspect. Nobody has been disqualified," Schauland said. "It is a mystery. It really is."

Early in the investigation to find missing Haleigh Cummings, the grandfather of a slain Orlando child made a plea for the Putnam County girl.

But Haleigh’s father now is saying he doesn’t want the help of George and Cindy Anthony, grandparents of Caylee Anthony. Caylee’s remains were found in a wooded area, and her mother now is facing first-degree murder charges in the child’s death.

“The family of Ronald Cummings, father of Haleigh Cummings, wishes to make it clear that they do not want any involvement by George and Cindy Anthony in the continuing search for Haleigh Cummings. The Anthonys have their own agenda, as witnessed by their recent media tour. The facts relating to the death of Caylee Anthony, which resulted in the first-degree murder charges against Casey Anthony, are in no way similar to Haleigh’s disappearance,” said in a statement released by a Palatka firm representing Ronald Cummings on Tuesday.

After a missing children’s rally this past Sunday, the Cummings family no longer welcomes the Anthonys’ involvement in the continuing search efforts for daughter Haleigh.

A caller, who wishes to remain anonymous, told WESH 2 that the missing children's rally was organized by Michelle Bart. Bart was once a spokesperson for the Anthonys.

Haleigh’s mother was invited to the rally, but the Cummings family was not invited to attend.

Crystal Sheffield, and attorney Kim Picazio had hired Staubs to conduct a private investigation for missing Haleigh Cummings. Staubs no longer works with them.

Picazio now says Staubs is taking the spotlight off Haleigh due to his "shenanigans."

On Tuesday, the attorney’s representing the Cummings released a statement that said they were not involved in the civil case about Cobra’s false imprisonment. “Snodgrass was formerly, before being ruled out, a person of interest in Haleigh’s disappearance,” the statement read.

Cobra was allegedly taped by news reporter Art Harris during the imprisonment and interrogation of Snodgrass. “Cobra and Art Harris have shared information and collaborated in this case,” attorney's also wrote in the statement.
