Still a federal offense, and second offense is a felony. Further, it is a felony to remain after a deportation order, even if the person entered legally.
Someone born here, at least if their parent is here legally, is not an immigrant, by definition.
Yes a huge problem. There is also an underground economy of supplying fake documentation and creating shell contracting companies who provide labor to companies who conveniently look the other way, knowing full well their workers are undocumented. But these employers aren't being rounded up and punished. That's a huge problem. That is where there is a problem. An underground economy.
Change the law. It's at the discretion of the president to determine to which extent they want to enforce immigration. This over-enforcement of immigration is reminding me of prohibition. Instead of going after criminals they're going after "low-hanging fruit" to meet quotas. Federal agents are wearing masks and attacking US citizens under the guise of this and that.
All of this is giving me nightmares and fears that we are turning into a police state. I'm not looking for masked, armed agents running amok in my neighborhood.
They are being find, but a lot of it exists without a record.Yes a huge problem. I live in NYC. Yes, I remember the buses.Change the law.
I can easily that complaints when the last president did not enforce the law. Maybe you remember the buses showing up in NYC.
It's the law. And the president is not required to enforce all of the law. Not a single president has done something crazy like this since WWII. When was the last time armed troopers were storming the US removing immigrants and killing US citizens in the process?Change the law.

Oh that's exactly my point - they do get their proof of ability to work. Problem is, it's fake. It conveniently allows the employers to say gee we had no idea. The I9 system is severely flawed but no one wants to fix it because they kind of like it the way it is. You don't hear the big food processors complaining about immigrants, for example. They are being find, but a lot of it exists without a record.
Employers since the 1980's are suppose to get the person's proof of citizenship or resident status.

And we don't complain when we buy our produce or meat at the grocery store - no questions asked about who picked it or packed it. We just want the low prices of cheap labor.Oh that's exactly my point - they do get their proof of ability to work. Problem is, it's fake. I don't think we can just....change the law. You know what it takes to do that. It's not that easy.Change the law.

People in the states where some of those "big food processors" were complaining.Oh that's exactly my point - they do get their proof of ability to work. Problem is, it's fake. People who are here legally are STILL being grabbed and sent out of state to detention centers. It happens fast, before family or a lawyer can be contacted. At the detention center, when authorities figure out the person is here legally, they release the detainee and tell them to find their way home.People in the states where some of those "big food processors" were complaining.
When talking about all immigrants and saying how much they contribute, that doesn't tell us if they are here legally or illegally. I would suspect that people here legally contribute far more than those are not here legally.

I would bet...not necessarily. To be brutally honest they do a lot of the labor and jobs that those who are here legally don't do. Don't want to do. Don't want anything to do with. Don't underestimate the huge workforce they contribute to.People in the states where some of those "big food processors" were complaining.

Are you sure you know what the definition of legal status is? TPS is considered legal status. Then, just like that it was revoked. It was revoked for Afghans who served along our military. Now they can all be deported. Do you think they want to risk going back to Afghanistan where they will be killed? I wouldn't. If it was me, I would stay here and hide.People in the states where some of those "big food processors" were complaining.

Do you have evidence that they are not returned?People who are here legally are STILL being grabbed and sent out of state to detention centers. I know you know the process of getting something made into law, so I won't quote it. And people can "pressure" reps all they want-it does not mean that it gets anywhere. So.....then what? I'm not seeing easy answers here. Why not? If people think the laws should be changed to let people stay, they can pressure their representatives to do it.
The first question, I would think, is why are they grabbed and sent out of state when they are here legally and can prove it?Do you have evidence that they are not returned?
