... and a double-tap if you're brown or black and bobbing...

Waiting like an arcade Mortal Kombat character in a pre-fight stance for my brown husband. Does that count?

Think of how many respected people, and for how long, worked against it.

I was rereading something about Clarke Gable...hey, you may love him as an actor or not so much, but he nearly refused to attend the Oscars in 1939 because due to Atlanta's segregation, Hattie McDaniel and other black actors were not invited to the ceremony. Hattie begged him to go.

And it was not the measure of being "progressive". It was the measure of decency to stand against such things.

Where did we suddenly end up?

To toast you with a quote by Fyodor Dostoevsky…

“A man who lies to himself, and believes his own lies becomes unable to recognize truth, either in himself or in anyone else, and he ends up losing respect for himself and for others. When he has no respect for anyone, he can no longer love, and, in order to divert himself, having no love in him, he yields to his impulses, indulges in the lowest forms of pleasure, and behaves in the end like an animal. And it all comes from lying - lying to others and to yourself.”

Ugliness is an animal. I think we all know “what/who” that animal is.

SHOCKING FEDERAL COURT MOMENT: DOJ attorney Julie Le, "The system sucks, this job sucks" to Judge Jerry Blackwell who pressed her on why so many court orders are being ignored by ICE/Trump admin. She asked to be held in contempt just so she could get 24 hours of sleep.

Judge Blackwell had ordered the SHOW CAUSE hearing because he was frustrated that in 5 Habeas cases he was presiding over, he felt his orders were being ignored, leaving immigrant detainees unconstitutionally locked up for days. Ms. Le said that govt lawyers just cannot keep up. @FOX9

@SeamusHughes

Since last week , AUSA Le has been assigned 38 federal immigration cases. Going back a bit further, she has 87 habeas cases since January 8th.

I have so much to say in response to this. So many things I think may benefit Ms. Le to hear. I can’t put them here however.

Curious! Now that Alex Pretti is a confirmed homicide, will our current administration pursue or support charges? Do republicans support this, or do they have an adequate defense for this? Or is an ICU nurse being murdered by ICE agents just one of those consequences people should accept with our current government? Should we expect the same if we exercise our right to protest?

Ilhan Omar calls for Kristi Noem to be fired or impeached after killing of two of her Minneapolis constituents

Speaking outside the headquarters of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Washington DC on Tuesday, Ilhan Omar, who represents Minneapolis in Congress, called for Kristi Noem, the homeland security secretary, to be fired or impeached

In her remarks, Omar described the recklessness of the “occupying paramilitary forces” conducting the violent immigration sweeps in the city overseen by Noem.

The congresswoman, a frequent target of Donald Trump’s invective who was recently attacked by a Trump supporter, also noted that when Renee Good and Alex Pretti, two of her constituents, were shot and killed by federal officers, “the president maligned their names and told us not to believe our eyes.”

She also said “there needs to be accountability for the architect of the terror we are facing in Minneapolis, and so many other cities, which is Stephen Miller”.

Here is a transcript of her full remarks:

I represent Minneapolis, which is currently under occupation.

“We do not exaggerate when we say we have schools where two thirds of the students are afraid to go to school.

“We do not exaggerate when we say we have people who are afraid to go to the hospital because our hospitals have occupying paramilitary forces.

“We do not exaggerate when we say our restaurants are shutting down because there are not enough people to drive the employees to work and from work.

“We do not exaggerate when I say we have people who are housing other people because they are afraid to go home.

“And that is all happening in an American city.

“We have two neighbors, two of my constituents, who were shot by federal agents as cameras recorded, and their President maligned their names and told us not to believe our eyes.

“When we say it is time for Kristi Noem to go, we mean it now.

“When we say there needs to be accountability for the architect of the terror we are facing in Minneapolis, and so many other cities, which is Stephen Miller, we mean we need accountability for him now.

“So thank you all for being here. Thank you for joining the call to get ICE out of our cities, for us to dismantle this department that is not just rogue, but unlawful.

“And yes, obviously, if Kristi Noem does not resign and the president doesn’t fire her, Democrats are ready and willing to impeach her.”

Congressional Democrats vow justice for US citizens harmed by immigration agents: ‘You deserve peace’

No Republicans attended hearing with brothers of Renee Good and three US citizens shot and detained by federal agents

[…]

With Republicans conspicuously absent, the forum of senators and representatives heard from Luke and Brent Ganger, the brothers of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, who was shot dead by an Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis on 7 January as she tried to drive away from agents.

Luke Ganger said he and his brother were there “to ask for you help” and suggested the sense of loss his family felt had been deepened by subsequent events in Minneapolis, where a protester, Alex Pretti, also aged 37, was shot dead by two border patrol agents on 24 January.

“The deep distress our family feels at Renee’s loss in such a violent and unnecessary way is complicated by feelings of disbelief, distress and desperation,” he said.

“In the last few weeks, our family took some consolation, thinking that perhaps Nee’s death would bring about change in our country. It has not. The completely surreal scenes taking place are beyond explanation.

[…]

The brothers’ testimony was followed by that of Marimar Martinez, Aliya Rahman and Martin Daniel Rascon, three US citizens who each described traumatic experiences at the hands of agents while they were in their cars.

This is an unprecedented situation. Federal officials say ICE acted appropriately, but the vast majority of people saw something very different with their own eyes.
Which situation is unprecedented?

Which situation is unprecedented?
The Federal Government blatantly lying by making statements that are provably factually untrue is fairly unprecedented, imho. I can't recall where I've seen or heard such things before.

They are saying that things took place which clearly and obviously did not. This is not a "debatable" point. AP did not "brandish" a firearm. AP was not "confronting or interfering".

We all know that governments lie a lot of the time but it is most unprecedented for the government of a "civilised" (by which I mean modern and democratic) country to outright tell its citizens, not to mention the entire planet, to believe its official statements, rather than the factual account presented to their own eyes.

The system doesn't suck. ABUSE of the system sucks.

I don't disagree. But whenever there is competition built into a system, you can't rely on individual self-restraint against pushing limits, because then the biggest limit pushers are rewarded.

The "system" has to include enforced laws of fair engagement, no matter what it is. The system has to be designed so abuse is not rewarded or normalized.

They have flooded the system with detention cases and people can't keep up. That's my understanding of what is happening. Perhaps I am wrong.

Yeah. We agree. I don't think either of us is wrong.

The system* is being abused by unnecessary and unreasonable arrests and detentions.

The abusers of the system shouldn't do that.

But the system needs enforceable protections against that abuse, such as by holding arresters accountable for having too high a percentage of arrestees just get released again. Also, the system should not allow quotas for arrests, because it encourages wasteful arrests.

Abusing a system is wrong, but if a system is regularly abused, some rules of engagement with it have to be enforced. The system has to protect itself.

MOO

*not to mention the arrested persons

Note: 3000-700=2300

The Trump administration is removing 700 federal immigration agents from Minnesota, border "czar" Tom Homan said on Wednesday. The move comes weeks after two U.S. citizens were killed by agents, sparking protests around the country.
