Trump touts 'softer touch' on immigration as federal force is reduced in Minnesota

"I learned that maybe we could use a little bit of a softer touch," Trump told NBC News, adopting a rare conciliatory tone on his political touchstone. "But you still have to be tough."

He’s been advised or seeing massive pushback and worried, he’s a known liar

Not believable

Softer touch? Then he says:

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP:
Two people it’s bad. I hate it. I hate even talking about it. Two people out of tens of thousands, okay?

TOM LLAMAS:
Mm hmm.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP:
And you get bad publicity. Nobody talks about all of the murderers that we’re taking out of our country. They don’t talk about —

TOM LLAMAS:
But it was two Americans who died, you know —

Imagine only two people and you get bad publicity! Oozing with compassion.

The article is behind a paywall but the tag line indicates it is largely immigrant owned businesses
And you don’t see anything wrong with that? It’s ok that the extreme presence of federal agents is ruining many local businesses because they are immigrant owned? I don’t understand your point here.

I would, if the businesses are being targeted for closure. If a business decides not to open up, that isn't the feds problem.

We should sleuth the videos to try to find the bodycams
Here's a CBP agent filmed in the minutes after Pretti's execution, wearing an Axon 4. Just play but immediately press pause...

Corner building in background is
2635 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55408

(vid also shows HSI types wearing a different brand or model, not applicable for our sleuthing ^P.S. please don't feed the trolls ^)

This large photo you’re using is terribly distracting

Yes, for reasonable suspicion of immigration law violation, regardless how flimsy that standard is.

In lots of states local LE does the traffic stops in cooperation with ICE anyway, and will detain people for ICE if they find something.

Totally. I mean, if “illegal” immigrants are being aggressively targeted by an extension of the federal government that is happy to murder “actual” citizens in the street, then that’s totally on those immigrants for not joyfully opening their businesses. It’s not like they’re being harassed, demeaned, or threatened excessively by the feds for the crime of being non-white immigrants in a country of immigrants or anything.

They have shown the world how to fight back successfully, using an iron resolve, a superior information operation, and winter grit, without resorting to the violence being used against them. It’s taken all hands: Nearly 30,000 Minnesotans trained as “constitutional observers,” essentially a rapid-response citizens’ force against perceived abuses. Tens of thousands of others have taken to the streets to monitor and film federal officials, or delivered groceries to neighbors too scared to leave their homes, or accompanied vulnerable neighbors from the parking lot to schools or church. .

Minnesota fighting back against ICE has given me one of the few reasons to actually be proud to be American in a very long time.

Two elementary school students and their mother have returned to Minnesota after being sent to an immigration detention center last week in Texas, according to school officials. ...

"We are committed to bringing back all of our students who are in detention facilities and will continue to advocate for all children being released from detention," the letter [from the school to parents] reads. "We are very concerned about the health and well-being of these children and families. We seek the release of all children and unjustly detained parents from detention centers across our country. We seek a diplomatic and peaceful solution to end this terror that the enhanced immigration enforcement is causing in our community, our state and our country."

Child mental health experts say that there are no simple ways to navigate the troubling events children may be seeing and parents will need to take a nuanced approach as families are being affected by the traumatic events to varying degrees. ...

For children who do witness these events unfolding in person, or seeing dramatic video of it, parents should not pretend it didn’t happen. ...

Since it’s unclear how much longer these federal enforcement operations will continue, mental health experts say it’s important to keep family routines as consistent as possible, as prolonged exposure to trauma and stress can lead to more serious mental health problems such as anxiety disorders and depression.
