Meet & Greet for New Members #3

Hi! I've known about this forum for a long time but this is my first time posting. I am very interested in true crime. Growing up I was involved in Neighborhood Watch with my mother. I've also taken some Administration of Justice college classes, as well as participated in the Citizen's Police Academy given by the local sheriff's department. As you can probably tell, it's a field I'm quite passionate about.

There are several unsolved cases in my area I've done deep dives into (among others). I'm eager to take a look around here and will be glad to help where I can.

Hi Starshine Rose!
Welcome to the Websleuths neighborhood!
We are a friendly community of folks interested in true crime.
Be sure to check out the Terms of Service, aka The Rules.
They are linked at the bottom of my signature on this post. The Rules are comprehensive, but intentionally strict. Websleuths is considered the gold standard in true crime discussion forums because we don’t allow the “anything goes” approach you find on most other areas of the internet. Websleuths is FACT-BASED and VICTIM FRIENDLY, AND The Rules here uphold that.
If you have any questions about The Rules or Websleuths procedures and policies, it’s best to ask our excellent volunteer moderators. You can submit those queries to them by clicking the REPORT link at the bottom of any post. Moderators will see that and are happy to address your questions.
We’re glad you jo8ned us at Websleuths!
We think you’ll learn to love it Here as much as we do!

Hi! I wanted to check in as a newbie. I would really like to help. I look at cold cases and missing persons as people who need help. I think we are all here to find resolutions for others and that is a neat thing about people.

I am focusing on my home state of Colorado. Like other newbies it is overwhelming to select a case to start. This case peaked my interest CO - CO - Raelynn Gonzales 50 & grandson Fabian Gonzales,18 months, stabbed to death, Adams Co., Jan 2014.

So far I have looked at the location on Google Maps. You know what is interesting? Going in one direction on Google Maps had current photos. Turning around had a photo from 2011. So that may be a tip to help others in their cases. It does not help this case as it is 3 years before they moved in.

Other Ideas I have had to find more information -by the way, why are the police so tight lipped? Details of the case should be shared to find the suspect, no? But not to give away specifics so law enforcement can convict the suspect(s).

What else can be done? I will look for forums and neighborhood specific posts next in 2014. I also want to check newspaper archives. Maybe there is something, like the next step of a staircase, if the top of the staircase is the resolution, to this case.

I don't want to break forum rules. But I was thinking maybe to post in free classifieds "Looking for information on (insert case here). Please send email to (insert case specific email address here)" type of ad. That may lead to something. I also think people would be more inclined to tip off a civilian than a legal agency.

I look forward to meeting other Web Sleuthers and working here and with you! Cheers!

Welcome to Ws @galois!

Hello! I am a follower of triue crime living in scenic Philadelphia, PA. I'm also an avid reader of crime fiction (which I also write as a hobby). You can probably guess why I picked the name - I have a framed picture of Raymond Chandler on my wall next to my desk.

Gonna explore the site and see what's here, but I've heard good things abut this forum on other crime sites I have visited.

Also, I do own a fedora.

Hi Azael!

We are glad you joined Websleuths!
There is a lot of good information here about so many cases.
It’s a great place to be to just poke around to see what’s going on.
I typically start my regular visits here by clicking on WHAT’S NEW (right under the WEBSLEUTHS logo at the top of every page) to learn about new cases that are easy to miss just by reading/watching the news.
Then there are the cases that you are drawn to, and you can keep up with them by clicking WATCH at the top right of the first post of any page on any thread. That way you can keep track of all of those by clicking WATCHED THREADS which is right next to WHAT’S NEW.

It’s always good to read The Rules (linked in my signature below) so that you know the ins and outs of how the discussion flow goes here on Websleuths. And if you have any questions, best way to ask them is to click REPORT at the bottom left of any individual post. Write your question in the window that opens, and when you send it the awesome volunteer moderators will see it and address it. The mods are great and know the rules and are most helpful at guiding members.

It’s great that you found a case you are interested in. However, this WELCOME thread is not a good place for specific discussion about it. Instead, post all the things you wrote above in the actual case thread you linked and you’ll be in good shape to participate there.

Welcome to Websleuths!
We think you’ll love it here!

Hello Marlowe93,

We’re glad you joined Websleuths!
Sounds like you are one of us already LOL.
I think you will find it right up your alley.
It’s easy to spend hours poking around in the thousands of threads here,
There is so much good information here. We’re especially proud of our reputation as the gold standard of true crime discussion forums. Much of that is due to our policy of being fact-based and victim-friendly. It goes a long way to elevate Websleuths above the fray of the majority of the “anything goes” websites. We like it that way

Welcome and make yourself at home!

Hi there, CocoChanel, thank you for the warm welcome and tips!

Lemme introduce myself, so we're friends:

Bit of an oddball (Serbian-Russian--nobody's perfect) who prefers crimes where the perp is still at large, and often wrong with my conjectures when the perp is apprehended... I found this forum after Brian Thompson's murder and joined due to the quality of the site. Many of the cases discussed are unfamiliar to me, a feeling akin to reading tabloids and not recognizing any of the celebs in their headlines, but the cases I do know about are discussed here in a manner I appreciate, with common sense and decency, which endears me to your discussions.

Looking to add some insightful avenues to explore, and hoping I get along with the bunch here.

Welcome to Websleuths @Mihajlo !
We’re glad you joined.
It’s cool that you appreciate the high standards of this true crime discussion forum.
It takes dedication and effort on the part of many to uphold the qualities you described.
From our amazing volunteer moderators to the thousands of members here, we’re pretty proud of Websleuths’ outstanding reputation.

The Rules, also known as the Terms of Service, are comprehensive and help keep Websleuths widely respected around the world. They are linked in my signature below. It’s helpful to become familiar with them so that you can successfully add to the discussion of the threads you are interested in.
Likewise, members will be interested in your contributions and ideas as well.
Hope you find it fulfilling to be a part of the forum!

Welcome everyone!
You are going to find the Websleuths experience like no other.
The members are so kind and helpful. You don't have to worry about being attacked because we don't allow posters to be rude to each other. No drama allowed here. Just interesting true crime discussions 24 hours a day.
Thank you for joining Websleuths.

Good Morning- Long retired FBI BCI certified latent fingerprint expert. Decided to join site after some hesitation but decided to take the plunge. One quick note-request. Although not a Cold Case / Open Case - anyone that may have an interest in the double homicide that occurred on August 4, 1994 on the banks of the Potomac River [Oxon Hill MD]; please reach out.
Offender: Robert Lavern Wittwer currently incarcerated at Super Max North Branch Correctional Institution Cumberland MD. Apologies in advance if request violated forum decorum. Looking forward to contributing to site.

Welcome! Do you happen to have a msm link that you could start a thread with so those of us not familiar can read about the case?

Since you have taken the plunge and admitted to an expertise on a topic of much interest of ours would you consider becoming a WS verified professional? If verified you can post on your area of expertise without the TOS required msm links to back up statements.

VERIFIED PROFESSIONALS and CASE INSIDERS

We are lucky enough to have posters from all walks of life with a broad spectrum of expertise. Some hold specialized knowledge that applies to the various circumstances of the cases we discuss, and can contribute valuable insight and information. We welcome their participation.

To ensure that anyone posting as a "professional" in a specific field truly is what/who they claim to be, WS employs a verification process.

If you would like to become verified, please contact WS Administration at wsverify@yahoo.com with your Websleuths name, your real name, the case, a telephone number, and the times when you can be reached.

Rules - Etiquette & Information

~Then please come to the 4 University of Idaho students Murdered thread in the Currently Awaiting Trial section.

If you dare! Lots of debated fingerprint conversation ripe for an WS VP fingerprint expert.

imo

I have a subscription to WaPo so I was able to read it. The names of the victims…David Ralph Sprague, 20, and J. Marvin Johnson, 26 who left behind a five year old son. :-( A witness said Wittwer later bragged "You should have seen them begging for their lives. . . . That was neat."

I don’t see that there is a thread for this case. Unfortunately, the only msm articles are from The Washington Post, which is behind a paywall. Websleuths rules don’t let me post a “gift link” to the article, which is understandable.

Unfortunately, being sent to prison didn’t prevent him from kIlling again. Wittwer pled guilty (in order to avoid the death penalty) to murdering a fellow inmate in 1996. Another life sentence.
