Gibson Tirade Tapes May Not Be Released

By LINDA DEUTSCH

LOS ANGELES — The movie that could be the most important of Mel Gibson's career is one the actor likely will fight to never have released.

The video and audio recording of Gibson's drunken driving arrest could add fuel to the controversy over his anti-Semitic tirade at a deputy who pulled him over and his self-described belligerent behavior when he was brought to a sheriff's station early on July 28.

I am angry that this keeps getting so much attention. He was wrong for drinking and driving. He realizes he has a problem and is in treatment (whether in-patient or out-patient), which to me shows he's at least making an effort not to make the same mistake again. He's apologized for what he has said, but yet that doesn't seem to satisfy the masses. I don't know anything about his personal beliefs, and I would have to say a lot of what was said was probably the alcohol talking. But, I don't know him personally, I am just thankful he didn't kill someone. I am sure the arresting officer has probably heard worse than whatever it was Mel said. But, then again, who knows???

I hope he can make a recovery.

He also got another invite, but I haven't heard as if yet he will appear ;)
Gibson's New Gig -- Yom Kippur Keynote Speaker?

In the letter, David Baron, the Rabbi for the Temple of the Arts, the largest entertainment industry synagogue in the United States, wrote: "...I wish to invite you to come and speak in order that you might directly express to the Jewish community your remorse. I feel that Yom Kippur, Day of Atonement, would be an appropriate time."

Rabbi Baron added: "In our faith we are commanded to forgive when the offending party takes the necessary steps and offers an apology from the heart."

NOTE: Last night I saw Rabbi Baron on T.V. making his invitation to MG very clear, it was an invite to apologize. I guess some took his invite to mean otherwise!

it begins at sundown on Oct. 1, 2006, until Oct. 2, 2006

Atonement
[edit]
Forgiveness and vidduy
According to the Talmud, God opens three books on the first day of the year; one for the thoroughly wicked, another for the thoroughly pious, and the third for the large intermediate class. The fate of the thoroughly wicked and the thoroughly pious is determined on the spot; the destiny of the intermediate class is suspended until Yom Kippur, when the fate of everyone is sealed. The liturgical piece Unetanneh Tokef (attributed to Rabbi Amnon of Mainz) states:

God, seated on His throne to judge the world, at the same time Judge, Pleader, Expert, and Witness, opens the Book of Records. It is read, every man's signature being found therein. The great trumpet is sounded; a still, small voice is heard; the angels shudder, saying, "this is the day of judgment": for God's very ministers are not pure before God. As a shepherd musters his flock, causing them to pass under his rod, so does God cause every living soul to pass before Him, to fix the limit of every creature's life and to ordain its destiny. On New-Year's Day the decree is written; on the Day of Atonement it is sealed; who shall live and who are to die....But penitence, prayer, and charity may avert the harsh decree."
According to Maimonides, "all depends on whether a man's merits outweigh the demerits put to his account", so it is therefore desirable to multiply good deeds before the final account on the Day of Atonement (Yad, Laws of Repentance 3:4). Those that are found worthy by God are said to be entered in the Book of Life, hence the prayer: "Enter us in the Book of Life". Hence also the greeting "May you be sealed [in the Book of Life] for a happy year" ("Gemar Chatima Tovah"). In letters written between New-Year and the Day of Atonement, the writer usually concludes by wishing the recipient that God may seal his fate for happiness.

Penitent confession was a requisite for expiation through capital or corporal punishment. On Yom Kippur, every prayer (whether silent or communal) includes the vidduy, a standardised confession. It consists of the short vidduy and the long vidduy (the latter is omitted in the ne'ilah service). Both are arranged alphabetically, probably to aid the public in memorizing it.

TMZ, an Internet celebrity news site that first released leaked sections of Gibson's booking report, is seeking the tapes under the California Public Records Act.

It maintains the tapes should be seen and heard by the public to assess whether the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department gave Gibson preferential treatment.

"We want the tapes not just because of Mel Gibson but because the tape puts the conduct of the sheriff's department in context," said Harvey Levin, head of TMZ.

Questions have been raised about the fact that a sheriff's department spokesman initially said Gibson had been arrested without incident. Also, the arresting deputy's initial written report, which contained Gibson's controversial statements, was ordered modified and the comments were placed in a supplemental report instead.

"Although the sheriff's department has maintained that deputies did not show Mr. Gibson favoritism, the department's prompt release of the requested materials will speak louder than any statement the department's spokesperson can make," TMZ lawyer Alonzo Wickers IV wrote in a letter to the sheriff's department.

Los Angeles' leading First Amendment lawyers said it will be an uphill battle to obtain the tapes before the case is resolved.

Somehow, someway they'll be obtained Buzz :D

I heard (I think it was the director) from "Passages", an exclusive Malibu Rehab. Facility. He said Mel's behavior didn't surprise him as the entire communtiy knew of it. He said what has always surprised him was that Mel has never sought any help in his additction the past few years.

Rob Schneider,actor-comedian,stated that he would never work with MG at any level and not under any circumstances--Schneider is half-jewish--Also,CNN is reporting that not one of Mel's myriad number of former fellow actors have come to his defense, which of course is no surprise, since his remarks are indefensible

Geez I'm a worry.....just what is the difference between jail and prison lol

Me being of British origin and you being Australian, here is the reason we didn't know the (American) difference betwixt Jail and Prison (or Gaol, come to that):

Other names and uses of the term

There are a variety of other names for prisons, such as a prison-house, penitentiary (IPA: /p?n??t?n??ri/) or jail (in British English and Australian English, the spelling gaol is sometimes used in formal contexts, although this spelling is pronounced in the same fashion). There are, also, many colloquial terms for prisons — such as big house, beantown, can, clink, joint, jug, cooler, hoosegow, lockup, lockdown, nick, pokey, slammer — and a similar range of terms for imprisonment, including doing time, bird, porridge, working for Copper John, etc.
The United States is one country where the term jail generally refers to facilities where detainees are locked up for a relatively short time (either while awaiting trial or serving a sentence of one year or less upon conviction for a misdemeanor). Prison and penitentiary typically denote a place where inmates go to serve long terms after having been found guilty of a felony. In the United States, jails are usually operated under the jurisdiction of local (county) governments while prisons are operated under the jurisdiction of state or federal governments. In the state of Massachusetts, some jails are known as houses of correction. In Washington some adult prisons are called reformatories, while in other states this is reserved as a term for a prison of the juvenile justice system. The term correctional facility has also been used.

It was George Bernard Shaw who observed that "England and America are two countries divided by a common language"

much better to focus on the positives, i believe. :)

Some other celebrity needs to do something stupid to take the heat off of Mel. I'll bet Tom Cruise is on his knees praying to whatever alien he worships that this happened just in time to take the heat off of him.

Oh we'll return to Tiny Tommy's tragi-comedy -- he has no worries on that score! :D :D :D

come along now Tommy: very soon time to put your left foot in and shake it all about once again. Mel's not nearly such entertainment value as you when it comes to us hurling rotten tomatoes! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

And yet another curious thing about Mr Gibson in light of the remarks he made at the time of his arrest:

The Bodyguard

Mel Gibson may have a problem with Jews — they’re responsible for all the wars, they’ve inflated the number of dead in the Holocaust, etc.

But Gibson likes one Jewish person a lot. His personal bodyguard for more than a decade turns out to be an Israeli.

Avi Korein, 45, is a name you don’t hear very often. That’s because Korein is famous for being nearly invisible and staying in the background.

if he hates jews so much, here is presented Mel the dichotomy . . . :waitasec:

edited to add: BTW, where was the bodyguard on that fateful night?

"He has often fallen off the wagon; he is a person of two extremes...."

Perhaps that's his problem; I would say alot of alcoholics are conflicted about one thing or another, or alot of things.

Thank you. I saw that....just responding to the post that stated:

CNN needs to update their story....people are finally emerging and sharing what they know of him, including Jodie Foster.
